This song was released in mid 1945 with Kitty Kallen as the vocalist (That version is the one in Endgame). The war in Europe is over, the war in the Pacific is close to finishing. There are 11 MILLION service members getting ready to come home. The wives and girlfriends are anxious to see them again after, in some cases, being gone for a couple years or more. The men in the Army, Navy, Marines and Army Air Corps are anxious to see their "girl back home". Any wonder this hits #1 on Billboard? My Dad came back from D Day and was so happy to be back home from the war. I asked my Dad did you see Paris, he said yes but I didn't leave anything back in Paris, he wanted to get back home to see my Mom who was a gorgeous model and his family in San Francisco. This was the theme song for the era of the 1940's when GI's who survived the war were thankful to be alive and and everyone knew this song. Whenever my Dad would see someone of his age, he would say where were you in the war and they would have a brotherhood and a connection that us civilians will never know. I have photos of my Dad and my grandfather with my father back on leave and they were tight because my grandfather served in WWI and everyone in his unit was KIA except for him and one other soldier. It was the battle of Vimy Ridge where there were over 6000 casualties in two days of fighting. They both knew the horrors of war and my aunt and uncles as well as my grandparents were afraid he wouldn't come back. He made it back but it took one year of playing cards with his buddies and drinking beer to get back into society from what they called shell shock. I don't think my father ever recovered from what he saw and experienced in WWII.
I'm a musician/trumpet player outta time and grew up loving the music of the 30s & 40s, as well as the movies. I just turned 50 a few months ago so my childhood peers NEVER understood my love of that time period. Neither did I but never stopped me... Greatest Era IMO

I watched the movie again just because of that scene. It is so beautiful and meaningful. Finally he got what he deserved.
Who else is here after Endgame!

Avengers Endgame 's ending finally brings me back to real good music
I'm a musician/trumpet player outta time and grew up loving the music of the 30s & 40s, as well as the movies. I just turned 50 a few months ago so my childhood peers NEVER understood my love of that time period. Neither did I but never stopped me... Greatest Era IMO
Well, if you like this, maybe you would like the “post modern jukebox” channel here in youtube. It has wonderful music.
@@danyg1400 I REALLY appreciate the heads up on the heads up on Post Modern Jukebox!! It appears I'm not as alone/displaced as I previously thought 🙂 I kinda just accepted and didn't try seek others with similar viewpoints. Fear that I wouldn't find anyone I suppose. Nevertheless, this is about thanking u for your kindness NOT a therapy session 😊 Listening to Creep performed/stylized like the music I love made my heart race!!! It also inspired me. Am classically trained to fit in, but am a former TOURING studio musician specializing in Jazz; ideas on gathering a group as well as adapting music and find places/people that might appreciate... Your my hero good sir 🏆
@@rwllms9845 I am very glad you enjoyed it! It is certainly one of my favorite channels in youtube, and, speaking from musician to musician, I am delighted to hear I could somewhat inspire you to continue with your work. So, really, I am happy to share it.
Niki Wonoto AMEN
I love all the Marvel characters and Stan Lee more than 3000. Thanks you.
I thought this was from up. I still cried 😢
End game thanks because brought me here. Now I can dance with my girlfriend like Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter.
That's adorable. ❤
Wish I had one to dance too
Love the MCU. Love the ending. Felt this really warm feeling in my chest.
I am 12 year old and I love this song
All these comments about Steve's final scenes in Endgame are making me tear up. This song is just so good and that ending was way too perfect.
I am 71 and learned to read music and play trumpet, coronet and baritone since age 8. I have always loved to hear the sweet sounding horn of Harry James. He could play vibrato like no one else. What a great sound ...and yes, even today ! db
lucky man
You must have really been excited seeing Endgame, assuming you watch Marvel movies.
HEART DIES OF LOVE
WHY I'M SO SINGLE 😭
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭THIS IS TOO BEAUTIFUL ❤️❤️❤️
When I go to prom, I'd want this song to play while I slow dance with my partner. In rememberance of the boy in blue.
Captain Loves this song . You can see it clearly . When Fury hides in Cap’s home in The Winter Soldier, Fury listens to this song in the stereo. It clearly shows how Cap always regrets not dancing to it with Peggy. But he gets to dance at last in Endgame !
i got so much nostalgia when i saw the iconic white text and blue background 😢
cap you deserve it, and it made my heart fill by happiness. goodbye cap
Perfect ending for my favourite one!
My grandma sure loves this song. We love to watch the sunset sometimes and we think about my grandpa who died of cancer in 2018. I will cry sometimes feeling weak with modern society. It sure has been a long long time Grandpa. I will see you on some sunny day. I could be today, tomorrow or 5 years from now.
Gonna play this at my wedding in the future, wish me luck.
