As native Korean, I honestly think 2:01 it should be "I hated you and I got hurt too" instead of "I hated you and hurt you". The original form of "아파도 했어" is "아파하다" and it means I, the singer, got hurt. So singer actually didn't hurt someone, singer was the one who got hurt. If it means "I hurt you", it has to be "아프게 했어" instead of the original lyrics "아파도 했어".
I know how hard it can be to differentiate the active and passive expressions in Korean grammar. I think it's just a tiny mistranslation. So to sum up, the original form "아파하다 (feel hurt)" Changed to past tense "아파했다 (got hurt, was hurt)" Then the meaning of "too (도)" was added so "아파도 했다 (got hurt too)" Then the sentence used informal/casual speaking so it ended with "어", which is "아파도 했어 (no change in meaning)"
oooh, that's even more meaningful though-- because it suggests if you hurt one part of yourself, you hurt your whole self. Which really fits with the song.

it's crazy how much this song makes me think of "Kidult", a song about holding on to your inner child. Even though you like your inner child and want it around, it's always hiding and slipping away when you don't notice so you have to pay attention and hold on to it. and 'Shadow' is basically the same but opposite. You don't want anyone to see your shadow, and kind of want it to go away but it's not going anywhere so you learn to embrace with kindness instead. Your inner child and your shadow are opposite sides of the same coin, in a way. Both parts of yourself you have to embrace to become a full person. Plus all the Peter Pan/Lost Boy theories we were making from "Darl+ing" makes it hit extra hard if you're familiar with Peter Pan and his love-hate relationship with his shadow. Just. It's really deep. My favorite on the album (tied with Don Quixote)
I thought of the same things !! Especially with DK's both lines "Let's love even our hidden sadness" and "Because even the darkness will shine brightly" Those phrases mean that all the parts of us have to be loved equally. They are part of us, we can't hide them forever or hurt them. Because our shadows and our innerchild are part of us, they will shine brightly.
Ahh I was also thinking about kidult while looking at the lyrics!! Like singing to another part of yourself that’s not on the surface and like self love??? Self love “baby”! Shadow and self love towards inner child?

I've been listening to all what seventeen said, and we got the same interpretation. But there is one thing I think that I can add to your thoughts. "oh, now I know, you are a part of me too." i don't know why but the fact that dino write some of the lyrics makes me sad. i hope he gets all the beautiful things only. i hope he don't get caught by those negative thoughts.
I think it's normal and okay going through this seasons in our life, makes us grow stronger and makes us realise the good things in life. Speaking from experience. Everything pass anyways!
this response, while incredibly sweet and good-intentioned, is kind of antithetical to the message of the song. embrace and incorporate the parts of ourselves that we would rather hide from others with loving compassion to truly live in whole love 🥰
I thought it was a song for someone, but I realize it actually talks about ourselves. The "self" that we deny and try to hide from everyone else. The "self" you really wanna run away from. The lyrics hit right through the soul I can't TT
I am new here. So it means the part you hated about yourself and running away from yourself . It's about embracing that part. Like a shadow which kepp running with us because it's part of us similarly that hidden part we need to hold it and let it be ourselves
0:45 Decalcomania (according to Google): the process of transferring designs from prepared paper on to glass or porcelain; a technique used by some surrealist artists which involves pressing paint between sheets of paper. ~ “Even my darkness will shine brightly” is my fav lyric from this song and I just love the message of the song. How the shadow is unwanted and perceived like a different character from you. Hurting, hating and running away from your shadow cuz of the denial that it’s apart of you. But also learning to accept your shadow cuz in the end it is apart of us and it’s ok to have them cuz even our flaws can have a positive.
@@unlikelycarat thank you for the compliment 💗 maybe decalcomania is used in a song it might refer to the way how the art style looks or how it’s created. If you look up decalcomania you’ll see the art created by pressing paint between paper and it creates this mirror like piece where together it creates a whole image but if you look closely the two sides have unique different even if it’s small.
This song is very meaningful, especially after knowing dino also made the lyrics. He always said that he wants to be positive and he hates being negative, because if he does that, he'll lost in his own thoughts, and he hates himself for being that kind of person. Looking at the meaning, i hope he's like that too, embracing his negative thoughts and the many sides of him that he doesn't like, embracing and loving the "shadow" part of him ❤️
My favorite part is Dino's rap verse in the bridge! 😭😭😭 I love the lyrics, vocal throw, everything and it unknowingly hits sooo hard followed by Mingyu and Scoups' "shadow my shadow" part. I think that's a tear button for me.
I'm really proud of dino for help creating such a wonderful track....from what I see a lot of carats like it and consider their favorite song and that makes me very happy for him♥
idk if it’s that hhu has been singing more lately (and yeah i know they also sing), or if they’re just more confident with their singing, but their singing stood out to me so much in this album. i love their rap parts, and i would never take away from that, but i can’t stress enough how much i love their singing voices too. they sound so beautiful. i will cry
i agree! i feel so proud how their singing voices has improved so much since debut and how it feels like they are somehow more confident in displaying it, esp Mingyu and Vernon.
I love the line "because even my darkness will shine brightly". I feel like the song is about trying to run away from the darkness of our lives and our weaknesses. They hid from the light because wherever there is light, there will be shadows too. They realize this and face their shadows, embracing them and learning to love them. By showing their good and bad sides, they're able to truly be themselves. I love this song so much. Mingyu's part especially
i'm obsessed with minghao's lines at 0:38 and 1:23. it was so smooth like a wine and calm like ocean waves, so elegantly sang. and his high notes on 2:59? SLAYED. ATE. LEFT NO CRUMBS. his growth as a vocalist is phenomenal
before knowing what the lyrics meant, this song feels so bittersweet for me. like the singer had so much guilt and regrets but they're trying to make up for it now by sacrificing something big. now i know what the songs means, it still feels bittersweet but now it sounds like the protagonist of an action film flipping the switch, gaining the courage to run, throwing themselves in front of the chaos, saving the day. it feels Brave
Another lyric site had S.Coups and Dino's parts wrong, but I knew you would have it right :). Thank you for your hard work in getting these out so quickly!!
This song reminds me of Kidult. The message and similarities of accepting ourselves no matter how much we want to hide. Let us embrace our inner childlike feelings and emotional moments while also staying with our hidden shadows, for we are precious the way we are
when i first listened to this while doing my work, i literally say the "wow" out loud and got goosebumps during s.coups part in the last chorus, its like hes hurting while singing this
I claimed this song the moment it started playing in the highlight medley. And it is even more beautiful than I expected. I could listen to this a whole week and, i will still love this song as much as i loved it in the first listen.
Omg i had no idea that this song has such beautiful and deep meaning honestly accepting ourselves with all our faults is one way to love ourselves this is what this song is about
My favorite part is “even my darkness will shine brightly” it’s a contradicting yet beautiful phrase. In fact if we shine brightly then the shadow will become darker. Whether the shadow is affecting us or not it depends on whether we accept it or not. We shine brightly along with our shadow, our dark hidden side then it’s totally okay
To me the most impactfull lyrics are "I hated you and hurt you", by hurting your shadows (hidding and ignoring them) you do the same thing they do to you, so you became your own shadows which explains all the lyrics about becoming the same thing by décalcomanie. Your shadow will always be a part of you, even if you hide from the sun to hide it to other people, they are always present and hurting them is hurting yourself. Like in Kidult, you have to love even your hidden sadness, and in this case, even you hidden shadows.
A comment by a native Korean that got pinned pretty much enforced what you just said lol The comment said that the line would be better translated (or something like that, I forgot how they wrote it lol) as “I hated you and I got hurt too" meaning the person hated and hurt their shadow but they got hurt too since your shadow is apart of you Ugh, I really love Seventeen and their lyrics
@@areejatiq Yes, to me it could be some feelings like lazyness, shame, envy, anger, hate... but it could also be traumas, complexes, depression or any other part of yourself you are ashamed / scared of
Woah I never thought the lyric would be so deep. It is so relatable to everyone. We tried our best to hide our fears (shadow) but in the end we should just face that. Wow.. And lemme give a standing ovation for Mingyu 👏👏 his voice really stand out and shine so much in this album, I really loveeeee all his part in this album 🖤

I love how the song shadow, tackles the concept of accepting the dark (shadow) part of us. The way we hated it, tried to escape it and hide it to others, but still no matter what we did- it still shone. And that made us slowly accept it and made us realize, our shadow is still a beautiful part of ourselves. :)) I really love uji's and bumzu's works! however, just by looking at this song, we can see that he could really express those negative thoughts very well
I think it's normal and okay going through this seasons in our life, makes us grow stronger and makes us realise the good things in life. Speaking from experience. Everything pass anyways!
@@micaelaclifford2729 agree with u
this response, while incredibly sweet and good-intentioned, is kind of antithetical to the message of the song. embrace and incorporate the parts of ourselves that we would rather hide from others with loving compassion to truly live in whole love 🥰
*"Because even the darkness will shine brightly*
*Baby I'm a shadow of you"*
So beautiful
Joshua starting, Jeonghan ending. Seems so perfect to me
It's just ✨P E R F E C T I O N✨

YES YES YES‼️‼️‼️
"Stay with me, at any moment"
Mingyu's voice ~~ really like this song so much
I thought it was a song for someone, but I realize it actually talks about ourselves.
@Arpita9516 yes!
I'm really glad Dino got to showcase so much in this album
2:30 Dino just killed it!
I really love DK and Seungkwan's part where they sing one after the other. :) And of course, Mingyu and Dino's bridge.
3:00 is jun
Lmao, I knew it :>
0:45 Decalcomania (according to Google): the process of transferring designs from prepared paper on to glass or porcelain; a technique used by some surrealist artists which involves pressing paint between sheets of paper.
~ “Even my darkness will shine brightly” is my fav lyric from this song and I just love the message of the song. How the shadow is unwanted and perceived like a different character from you. Hurting, hating and running away from your shadow cuz of the denial that it’s apart of you. But also learning to accept your shadow cuz in the end it is apart of us and it’s ok to have them cuz even our flaws can have a positive.
well put :). Why do I know 3 k-pop songs with this same obscure word though?
@@unlikelycarat thank you for the compliment 💗 maybe decalcomania is used in a song it might refer to the way how the art style looks or how it’s created. If you look up decalcomania you’ll see the art created by pressing paint between paper and it creates this mirror like piece where together it creates a whole image but if you look closely the two sides have unique different even if it’s small.
@@diana_svy I meant it more as a rhetorical question, but yes I imagine it gets used because the concept is interesting
Seventeen members vocals are so amazing ❣️. Jun belting that last chorus line after Woozi sounded so emotional and strong 💯.
I'm really proud of dino for help creating such a wonderful track....from what I see a lot of carats like it and consider their favorite song and that makes me very happy for him♥
When I see Dino's name I feel so proud. Woozi, Bumzu, Dino and Seventeen thank you so much for such a wonderful song.
idk if it’s that hhu has been singing more lately (and yeah i know they also sing), or if they’re just more confident with their singing, but their singing stood out to me so much in this album. i love their rap parts, and i would never take away from that, but i can’t stress enough how much i love their singing voices too. they sound so beautiful. i will cry
i agree! i feel so proud how their singing voices has improved so much since debut and how it feels like they are somehow more confident in displaying it, esp Mingyu and Vernon.
Their vocal tones are their selling point...I really love hearing them sing♥
I think because this album suits their vibe so much
I love the line "because even my darkness will shine brightly".
This made me cry😭 the lyrics is talking to me😭😭 my insecurities, anxiety about myself. I can't.
i'm obsessed with minghao's lines at 0:38 and 1:23. it was so smooth like a wine and calm like ocean waves, so elegantly sang. and his high notes on 2:59? SLAYED. ATE. LEFT NO CRUMBS. his growth as a vocalist is phenomenal
2:59 is jun
before knowing what the lyrics meant, this song feels so bittersweet for me. like the singer had so much guilt and regrets but they're trying to make up for it now by sacrificing something big. now i know what the songs means, it still feels bittersweet but now it sounds like the protagonist of an action film flipping the switch, gaining the courage to run, throwing themselves in front of the chaos, saving the day. it feels Brave
Another lyric site had S.Coups and Dino's parts wrong, but I knew you would have it right :). Thank you for your hard work in getting these out so quickly!!
This song reminds me of Kidult. The message and similarities of accepting ourselves no matter how much we want to hide. Let us embrace our inner childlike feelings and emotional moments while also staying with our hidden shadows, for we are precious the way we are
when i realise the lyric by Dino and how can i related it with the latest gose episode of mbti know yourself....dino write it too..this song...superb
when i first listened to this while doing my work, i literally say the "wow" out loud and got goosebumps during s.coups part in the last chorus, its like hes hurting while singing this
0:39 The8's voice really suits this song. Loved it
i loved shadow even without knowing the lyrics,,,, but now that i've known it, my feelings for this song grew deeper if that was even possible
2:20 😭😭 I freaking love that part so so so so much😭😭😭
I claimed this song the moment it started playing in the highlight medley. And it is even more beautiful than I expected. I could listen to this a whole week and, i will still love this song as much as i loved it in the first listen.
Omg i had no idea that this song has such beautiful and deep meaning honestly accepting ourselves with all our faults is one way to love ourselves this is what this song is about
So proud to see that Dino is one of the composers and lyricists of this iconic song with such meaningful lyrics!
0:39 best part of the song
My favorite part is “even my darkness will shine brightly” it’s a contradicting yet beautiful phrase. In fact if we shine brightly then the shadow will become darker. Whether the shadow is affecting us or not it depends on whether we accept it or not. We shine brightly along with our shadow, our dark hidden side then it’s totally okay
Am I the only one love Dino's part at 0:19? that "pyeon" 👀❤️👍🏻
Yeah he has such a unique voice specially when he flips to his falsetto
mingyu's vocals KILLED in this song omg
To me the most impactfull lyrics are "I hated you and hurt you", by hurting your shadows (hidding and ignoring them) you do the same thing they do to you, so you became your own shadows which explains all the lyrics about becoming the same thing by décalcomanie. Your shadow will always be a part of you, even if you hide from the sun to hide it to other people, they are always present and hurting them is hurting yourself. Like in Kidult, you have to love even your hidden sadness, and in this case, even you hidden shadows.
So, shadow means our dark parts like not actually our shadows but the things we hate and want to hide from others, correct me if I'm wrong.
A comment by a native Korean that got pinned pretty much enforced what you just said lol
The comment said that the line would be better translated (or something like that, I forgot how they wrote it lol) as “I hated you and I got hurt too" meaning the person hated and hurt their shadow but they got hurt too since your shadow is apart of you
Ugh, I really love Seventeen and their lyrics
@@areejatiq Yes, to me it could be some feelings like lazyness, shame, envy, anger, hate... but it could also be traumas, complexes, depression or any other part of yourself you are ashamed / scared of
Woah I never thought the lyric would be so deep. It is so relatable to everyone. We tried our best to hide our fears (shadow) but in the end we should just face that. Wow..
And lemme give a standing ovation for Mingyu 👏👏 his voice really stand out and shine so much in this album, I really loveeeee all his part in this album 🖤
for me i think shadow is bout their past lives and their flaws.,now they've accepted their flaws andd it made them who they're now ❤️..i think it's something like that.
for me i really needed this thanks seventeen ❤️ it's a reminder you're who you're... you're flaws makes you unique and different from others... i hated myself i dont remember from when bt now i wont it helped me it'll be my reminder not to hate myself ...
thank you so much seventeen ❤️ specially woozi dino and bumzu ❤️
This song is 🔥 The8-Woozi-Jun soft voice combination is really great. Its amazing that they can pull both soft and high pitch voice.
Their voice shift is really smooth😍
I really regret not finding this song sooner....
i'm in love with the8 and dino voice, again.
2:20 how their vocals are perfect like that😫!
No one's talking about Vernon. His voice is really good and suits the song so much.
WOOW dino's rap just woooow
Wow now i get why many members like this song so much. The music is catchy but the lyrics and the message of the song is very beautifully sad? 👍👍
I love seungkwan & dk part, it so amazing
nth reason why i would wholeheartedly trust my heart with svt is that they never forget the comfort part when there is hurt
The lyrics is amazing I choked up a little bro woozi is a genius for real and hold on I just saw that dino co-wroted too???? 😭
It was hard to choose between “Don Quixote” and “shadow.” They’re my favorite, however; it came to my tough decision and conclusion that I think “Shadow” is better. Which is why it matched the title “face the sun”.
1:45 I really love Jun's voice here (it's better during live performance).. At first I thought both lines 1:45 and 0:42 were sung by woozi, but then I watch the Be the Sun performance and it turned out not and I just waw 😳, Jun killed it. I ended up keep replaying that part when watching the performance
Hearing this song gives special vibe and drivemore self-assurance. Watching its live performances during BetSun tour gave me goosebumps
Omgg mingyuuu i noticed that mingyu has more line when he have to sing and it’s so beautiful
😭😭❤️❤️ one of the song which I like the most is also co - written n composed by uri maknae , so talented , n also the fact tht members said it was really nice song makes me so proud of DINO ❤️😭
N he is so generous , he give credits to others always , saying tht mingyu killed it in his addictive part ,❤️ so nice man
I love how the song shadow, tackles the concept of accepting the dark (shadow) part of us. The way we hated it, tried to escape it and hide it to others, but still no matter what we did- it still shone. And that made us slowly accept it and made us realize, our shadow is still a beautiful part of ourselves. :)) I really love uji's and bumzu's works! And our maknae dino for contributing in making shadow, an amazing masterpiece 😭❤️
2:59 is indeed Jun (I was right in my initial guess lmao) they performed shadow a few minutes ago
It's the first time my tears burn my cheeks. The lyrics, the meaning, and the emotions they give to the music just got me
this song is my favorite song from the album, and i'm just so proud of dino, i can't believe he made this song along with the others. I hope he'll continue to compose and make lyrics for the song, he's really good at it 🥹
this song is one of the best and the lyrics are also amazing
This song is my fav in this album, I always got goosebumps listening to this like literally. The antidrop in the chorus is chef's kiss, svt literally has some of best antidrops in kpop imo. The melody in the prechorus is just ear candy, and the rap verse is just so good, everything about this song is perfect!
It's interesting, only "seventeenlyrics" channel that stated whose this song come (lyrics by, composed by, arranged by).
That's why I feel strange for other channel making other groups lyrics "why did the lyrics felt something is missing" and now I'm realized it comes from they didn't credit where the song come from.
Well great job whoever handled this channel👏👏👏👏👏
i am literally crying. this song is beyond beautiful and it hits too close to home.
Its about accepting our self, good or bad, itstill part of us huhuhuhu Woozi, Bumzu, Dino and more, thanks for creating this song. Shadow is my fav bside of this album. And the lyrics are so beautiful❤
This song just brought me to tears. Masterpiece indeed.
This is my favourite song of the album. Thank you dino, woozi and bumzu😚😚
I love how most songs from this album have the word "SUN" in the lyrics.
디노는 랩도 잘하는구나
대체 못하는 게 뭐야...?
So I end up crying while watching and listening to this song. I didn't know that I will end up crying cause I personally find this song hit me home. Knowing how there are some part of us that we can't accept our flaws and leave the past behind. Thank you for releasing this lyrics video, I love the message behind this song alot. How can one wrote such an amazing masterpiece, I'm bawling so bad 😭
The "Shadow" Is the part of us that we don't like it and hope to disappear but we have to accept them because whatever is still the part of us. 💖🥰
Why does this song remind me so much of "lie again", both songs give me goosebumps everytime I listen to them
seventeenlyrics i owe you my life I genuinely teared up watchingthis & learning the meaning. bless ur soul for making these touching messages be accessible to international fans. im about to eat the moon
This is my favorite track from the album and I seriously fell in love more after knowing the lyrics 💗
this song leaves me in awe everytime I listen to it
OKAY NOW I GUESS THEIR SONG IS ALMOST... NO. MOST OF THEM THAT ARE MASTERPIECES TO HEAR
3:00 Wow I didn't expect that Jun's part. His voice is so amazing!
1:03 I'm living for Seungkwan's this part🥺❤
the meaning was much deeper than what i thought...
Imagine Shadow as anime opening. It should be fantastic especially on isekai's.
섀도우 너무조음 💞❤
i love this song soo freaking much, kinda make me teary eyed for some reason.
argh, love tracks like this, can't stop listening to it.
i hope they have acoustic version of this bcs it would be sooo freaking goodd
Seventeen's lyrics and the music is the reason im a carat. Love you seventeen for being with me during my hard times.
I really like the bridge 😍 Ok who am I kidding-- I really like the whole song 😭😂
this song is literally so good 🔥🤍
