Hearing this perspective from a Nigerian living in Ghana was definitely eye-opening. You may hear about the discord between Ghanaians and Nigerians, here's the backstory behind it.
It has nothing to do with what happened in 1985. Most Ghanaians don’t even remember this incident. Even British people who colonized Ghana and with its atrocities can still find suitable places to rent. It is just love and vibe between Ghanaians and Nigerians, and may be a few bad tenants from Nigeria who have created a reputation problem for most Nigerians. Anyway, this is more a class problem because rich Nigerians have no problem renting or buying properties in Ghana. It is only the lower classes and struggling youth, but then poor Ghanaians also struggle to find suitable accommodation.
That's not the reason. That incident is passed and gone. The reasons a Ghanaian landlord will hesitate to rent to a Nigerian is more stereotypical. There are bad nuts everywhere and you know what they say about one bad nut. There are many stories of them not keeping contract. Two people will come and rent but more and more keep joining them over time sharing the same tiny space. There is also the problem of leaving the place in a worse condition than when they rented. When they want to move they will stop paying rent and come up with excuses to give them more time to pay up and this can go on for about 3 months. When they move out too they don't inform you. They will leave behind some useless property so as to create the impression they are still around. This may not be the case for everyone of them but because of the few who have put up a bad reputation most Ghanaians are cautious. It's rather unfortunate that many innocent ones have to pay the price sometimes because truth be told I've met many lovely and helpful Nigerians too.
I've been saying Nigerians don't 'fear' overpopulation. 20 Nigerians can live in a small single room and it won't faze them, constituting a nuisance to other tenants
Stop that lie there ✋ The simple reason why Ghanaians hate Nigerians eternally is because of how our government evicted Ghanaians and Nigerians named a cheap bad Ghana Must Go bag. That hurts u Ghanaians forever, but because u don't take responsibility for your fails, u refuse to remember that the ghana government stock first in 1969 evicting Nigerians from ghana in the middle of a brutal Civil War. So let it keep hurting u people because u just don't take responsibility for your fails. God for u
My friend stop ranting, my neighbor recently rented his apartment to a Nigerian because he’s got a job outside Accra. He rented it to just one person and the guy brought in 7 other Nigerians to live with him and they pay rent to him without the owner’s knowledge. The guy started misbehaving and the owner wanted him out of the apartment. It tuned into a court case because the man gave the apartment without any agent involved. Now he has sworn that he will never rent his apartment to a Nigerian ever again. Now this Nigerian has blocked other Nigerians chances of getting a decent apartment to live in here. In this situation who do you blame.
You see oh , they are bad everywhere now it will affect the 10% of the good Nigerians . My uncle same he vow never to rent his house to Nigerians . The lady rented the house and was using it as a brothel he called the police after one month and she was sent to police for illegal sexual stuff and trafficking after investigation . She spent 4 years and was deported back to Nigeria . Now she has a record and won’t be able to enter Ghana again
Young woman, stop the insincerity. That is not why some Ghanaians don't want to rent their homes or apartments to Nigerians. Crime by some of these young Nigerian guys is the reason people are wary of renting their houses out to them. There are Hausa and Yoruba people who are virtually Ghanaians now. They've lived all their lives in Ghana. Most of the homes in Accra Newtown or legos town today were built by yorubas. Hausa is the lingua franka in migrant communities in Ghana all because of the migration of Nigeria's Hausa long before independence. Why is it so difficult for some of you to be honest? People are simply trying to stay away from trouble with the law. The insincerity on these streets is too much. The funny thing is that, upon all these complaints and insults they rain on Ghanaians, the rate at which they're trooping into this country at the moment hasn't happened before. You'll see those young guys in every corner these days. God is my witness, a bunch of them occupy a whole house adjacent to us. You don't see them in any gainful employment. They ensconce themselves indoors all day. Only God knows what they're up to. Any Nigerian who lives in Ghana and abides by the laws of Ghana has nothing to worry about. It is a certain calibre of Nigerians, who think money must be made no matter how foul the means, who are putting Ghanaians on their guard at the moment. Otherwise, there's a long history of trade and coexistence either in Ghana or Nigeria between the two, in spite of the twin episodes of expulsion.

Dear, a lot is going on in Ghana now with some Nigerians. We wish not to say but we are saying it cos it has gotten to the level of Ghanaians loosing lives. Ghanaians did it first by deporting Nigerians in 1969 . The darkest days of the Nigerian civil war. Those who deported Ghanaians in 1983 were the politicians from that era .
That's not why . you rent to one Nigerian by the time you turn around they have 19 other ppl living in the place ;and too often they are doing illegal activities
🇳🇬 Ghanaians were the first to strike, don't be ignorant. In 1969 Ghana government evicted Nigerians from Ghana in the middle of the the brutal Civil War in Nigeria. So in 1983, due to security concerns because Ghanaians were indulging in crimes in Nigeria, the Nigerian government asked Ghanaians to leave Nigeria. So it was a retaliation that am pleased had to happen because how do u chase away people when they are most in need. Karma had its way with them but Ghanaians don't take responsibility and always looking for blame in others for their own fails
Ghanaians asked Nigerians to go first, before they came to Nigeria, and economy went do bad and they were asked to leave Nigeria, they started it first, you people don't know history
@@barrypayton2832Why are you insistent on starting the story from the middle? Ghana did "Nigeria must go" twice before Nigerians retaliated. Apparently even sending people into a civil war. None if those 3 episodes should have happened imho . You have to ask yourself why you are minimising that. Is there a possibility that you will always lean to a version which paints Nigerians as the aggressor rather than the retaliator? Basically, starting the story from the middle... "And the Indians shot their arrows" type of set up? This results in choosing a "victim" by activity omitting or minimising other facts. If that is the case, you may not be best placed to discuss the matter, to be honest.
Madam stop talking rubbish nobody killed any Ghanaian the only thing they did was protesting chanting "Ghana must go" no Ghanaian was killed stop talking what you don't know
The Nigerian reputation follows them everywhere they go in the world, unfortunately. In general, they are hard workers and overachievers tho, but the bad stuff follows them everywhere. Everyone is scared of them!

Or with Jamaican yardies or any other group? What is this new responsibility put on individuals who are honest and hardworking to change a narrative beyond actually being evidence of the opposite? They are already doing that. The honest and hardworking Nigerians are evidence to the contrary of the negative stereotypes but people refuse to let that affect their general reputation/perception anyway. That is the difference. Instead of saying "oh not all Nigerians are like that" with an actual Nigerian. showing good traits before them as evidence . They rather say "oh you're not like a Nigerian . It is actually the people holding the perception that refuse to allow room or change in it when they meet the opposite. It is the danger of the single story people refuse others to be anything other than negative in their eyes irrespective of the contrary they may experience. Now whose responsibility is it to change that?
If people refusevti rentbto a Nigerian it stands to reason that the few who get the house will have many people there, because others are unable to get accommodation . It's the same with the recent immigrant Polish, Indians and Chinese in the UK, its very common to see many in one house. Not only to bring down costs but also because some landlords prefer not to rent to them. When I lived in Australia landlords did not like to rent to the Irish.

How many Nigerians have Ghanaian documents? Some will scam you if you play loose😂😂
That's not why . you rent to one Nigerian by the time you turn around they have 19 other ppl living in the place ;and too often they are doing illegal activities
You go explain taya.
Am sorry, it's not because of that, most of the Nigerians don't keep the houses clean.
Propaganda and excuse to cover for ur hatred towards Nigerians
Oh you people that are very dirty too taking
Why are you lying,
1853
Oh woman
Nigeria governments is not working that why because no country is better than Nigeria
Shagari Order...GHANA MUST GO
Ghana expelled Nigerians twice In 1950s to 1960s before shagri retaliated , stop using propaganda and excuse to cover for ur hatred towards Nigerians
@UniqueSam-qu3ny No Hate. No propaganda here. It's documented history. And it's well known. Did this not take place?
@@barrypayton2832but remember Ghana do the same, but Nigeria did their own. so it's 50/50
Yea
And the ones that give them the negative reputation need to get handled and reprimanded by the ones who don't if they want to change the bad conception.
@@waynebaker5720 no one gives anyone a REPUTATION. A REPUTATION is something u acquire for yourself from behaviours u put out! No one just wakes up and puts it on u without any reason.
@@waynebaker5720Why is it that only Nigerians are told this?
The black Americans that have a bad reputation does anyone task "the good ones" with the duty to change the overall narrative ?
Ghana sack Nigeria 1st in 1970s

@@Jwillsss she's just a kid, what does she know. This social media is full of very young people, unfortunately have no knowledge of history, so when I see/here them giving information with such conviction, I cringe and scream at my screen becos, they are giving such wrong info on culture, history, and traditions of our countries. Sadly, there are no elders around to teach them the right information, so they don't have much to rely on for right info about anything, and thanks to their unfortunate distraction of the internet/social media etc., they lost on the gift of the richness of learning, the way we were fortunate enough to have our elders around, to sit with us and spend time with us to teach us about everything. The computer, as helpful as it can be to us, in it's own way, has stolen from tjem, the ART OF READING, so tjeybdont know how to actually pick up a book and READ! This is their misfortune!! Sad! I was in Lagos when Ghana must go was happening, and oh boy, I can tell stories, and it brings me tears right now. It was very very heartbreaking and so inhumane, what poor young Ghanaians went thru. So unheard of on the continent, when we were not even at war with each other oooo!!
Ghaniams drove out Nigerians first
You lied Ghanaians where not killed in Nigeria
completely off my dear, its bcos of the bad records you guys are setting in the 21st century 😂😂
my grandmother told me how, how Ghana told Nigerians to leave their country, many years back, they have to leave their homes for Ghanaians, even Nigerians married Ghanaians just to keep their properties
She is spewing nonsense 🤦🏾♂️
The Nigerian must leave was before Ghana must leave. Please farther back to history. Nigeria didn't start it. And for those of you saying Nigerians are bad, look at yourselves. How can a whole population be bad? As Nigerian, who has Nigerian and non Nigerian friends , I disagree with you. If you have a problem with us, it doesn't mean we are the reason.
My dear don't mind them, Ghana has hated Nigeria/Nigerians before that incident.
Because this generation can't use the Ghana must go incident to justify their hatred, that why they are use reputation propaganda to cover their hate
@@UniqueSam-qu3nythe Whole Africa hates u. U are the biggest problem in Africa
I was having a Nigerian neighbor In a rented apartment as a Ghanaian, before I knew he was wearing some of my clothes and sneakers and I was like bro at least inform me if you need something from me then he apologized.I got home from work the next day and found my wardrobe empty as he was vacating the apartment. From that day I never had a feeling to be friend to a Nigerian.
If he was a Ghanaian would you not be friend with any Ghanaian again? Just asking ooo

Yes history never lies.. to let you know almost 98% knows about this incident 😢.. So don’t think Ghana like Nigerians and nothing can be done for Ghanaians to love or like Nigerians ..
Yes, Ghana hate Nigeria right from time.
