Welding and Installing a Solar Panel on a Sailboat

This is the davits, wind generator and solar panel mount we made, the 316 stainless was under £700, and we did the work ourselves. A friend in Greenock “Jake” dod the vertical as it was joining a 30mm tube, to a 50mm tube, Leena’s dad did some of the welding, and I did some, I don’t know how much it would have cost to get someone to make it all, but it would have been an awful lot more than it cost us.

Nice job Al !! Saw a Westerley Discus for sale up here in Scotland really taken to them since i sailed with you £25000 1980 out my budget unfortunately !!

That’s too much . We’re in the peak of inflation. In 2026 that same boat will be 9k.

That’s expensive, mine was surveyed at 18k I paid 9 during Covid when no one was buying. I don’t believe it’s worth more than 18k.
