      No. These use what I think are H1 or H11 bulbs. Just pay attention to the listing for whichever housings you are buying. They call it out, usually.

    Is there an easier way to remove the headlight and grill? I’ve seen videos of people removing the entire bumper. Is it necessary? Do you have instructions or a video on this? I am replacing my grill and headlights to the ones you have.

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've done this a few times now and you can get away removing just the grill to he able to replace the headlights, the bumper doesn't have to come off. That being said, you're much more likely to scratch stuff if you do leave the bumper on. So if you want to play it safe, just take the bumper off. Only takes a few more minutes.

    Thank you for this video. I just installed these same style Headlights (different brand but the same thing) and I was wondering, what did you do with the extra red/white/black cable that is on the back of the assembly. They have a connector at the end of them and I was thinking that these were for a Halo style of application but, these aren't Halo headlights. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

  • @anthonydimasc5760
    @anthonydimasc5760 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm about to remove mine that I had installed back in 2016. Too many issues, and they haven't aged well. I don't recommend this model of aftermarket headlight. I don't understand what's the point of the load resistors used in this design, if it doesn't simulate the OEM voltage to avoid constantly throwing a code.
    They use a cheap adhesive on the load resistors that liquefies and breaks down the adhesion. The load resistors just get way too hot. A laser temperature gun reads around 200 degrees Fahrenheit. So I had used a self tapping screw to mount to a metal surface. Still, one of my load resistors got wet. Eventually, both the headlights stopped working.
    Next time, the manufacturer should simply take an original OEM assembly, and just replace the incandescent DRL lighting fixture with the LED DRL of the same exact electrical load. And NOT change the regular headlight from the OEM H7 to H1, for no reason. The OEM H7 is supposed to be 55W.

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear you've had so many issues. I've had mine installed for over a year now and all is good. I have the resistors on the headlight themselves with no degradation at all. Lenses are still clear and everything functions as it should. Maybe the earlier builds have had quality issues. Also no issues with codes being thrown either.

    hi! i have a 2016 GLI SE and mine came with the basic halogen headlight assembly. I wish i would of bought the SEL so i got the bi xenon headlight assembly. I think these match the look of the GLI way more then the factory headlamps. I have two questions. how well are these headlights holding up? also, i know you said in the video the DRLs arent that bright but how would you compare them to replacing the halogen bulbs with LED bulbs? because thats what i did with my OEM headlights I have now. I just replaced the halogen DRL light bulbs with LEDs.

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DRL on this is already an LED and it is a sealed non replaceable LED. No way to upgrade that without taking apart the headlight. The lights themselves are holding up great! No issues with the lenses or anything like that.

    • @HTMLrulezd00d272
      @HTMLrulezd00d272 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FocusedGarage I'm sorry. I didnt ask that question that clear. On my current headlamp assembly I replaced the halogen 1156 DRL bulbs with 1156 led bulbs. I replaced them with the philips branded 1156 LED bulbs. How would you compare the brightness between regular 1156 LED bulbs and these DRLs on your headlights? are they comparable? and thats good to hear! • @FocusedGarage

      The bulbs are just generic H1 LED bulbs from Amazon. I paid around $30 or $40.

    Can you see the led drl at day?

      Yeah you can, but it is not nearly as bright as some DRLs.

    How do you replace the LED DRL if it burns out?

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would have to get a new headlight. However LEDs run forever. Well not forever but for a long time.

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're tech savvy you can take the unit apart and wire in new LEDs but it is not meant to be replaced.

    • @cesarfernandes2794
      @cesarfernandes2794 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Focused Garage that sucks because I have already seen a few of them on the road with the LED out on one side. I love the look but it's an expensive "bulb change". On the fence at the moment. If only there was a "how to" video on how to change the LED strip

    • @FocusedGarage
      @FocusedGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you buy it from a good supplier who uses quality LEDs, You won't need to replace them. They last long time. Most burned out LEDs you see are cheap LEDs that got hot and burned out. We could do a DIY video about taking the headlight a part. That wouldn't be a big deal. It will be on a different headlight since Mike's still works. However, it will be the same concept.
