My son and I were lucky enough to fly with Dave in the Biplane at Rhinebeck that fall day he speaks about. Was an awesome experience meeting Dave personally and to fly in the plane with him. We are planning on going back sometime this season. It's a great place to visit.

@@ASRivers No, plane rides can be purchased at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome and they have qualified pilots to take you up.
It's always a special treat when Dave appears on Barbara's show. He's her best guest, hands down.

What a national treasure this man is. I’ve been a fan since 1987 when I was 8. It makes me so happy that after he retired he didn’t just disappear like I thought he would. He has not lost an inch of a step. Still so clever and quick and hilarious. He changed television and my life. I ended up being a smart ass because of him.
I have watched Dave since 1982 and still can’t get enough of him. The Best!!

I absolutely ADORE this reversal format, where the adorable Barbara Gaines is the host, and snarky Letterman the perpetual guest. I miss Letterman so much, but this is GOLDEN.
These two were at the height of television, and I love how low rent they are going in their retirement. The simplicity and Dave's "senility" are hilarious!

My daughter worked last summer at the Rhienbeck Areodome selling tickets for the plane rides, she made no mention of seeing ol’ Dave probably because she has never watched network television and has no idea who he is ..Update, my daughter did meet Dave at the Areodome and was so impressed she never mentioned it to me

Hey, this guy's a hoot! He should have a show. FAN REQUEST: From the earliest days, there was a filmed segment with Dave's dog, Bob. In it, Bob, running about outside gets thirsty. When he goes to get a drink, a thought bubble pops up, "My empty water bowl mocks me." I would love to see the entire bit.
I LOVED that bit too! I may be misremembering, but I think there was more than one of those segment with Bob. Either way, I will bet Merrill Markoe was behind that. She's a big dog lover and even wrote a novel in which a man's dogs communicate with him telepathically.
You did a great job as host, Barbara!

All kidding aside... How gorgeous and relaxing does Barbara's cottage style living room look in the background? It makes you want to plop on the couch with some coffee to enjoy the sunshine. You usually only get great lighting like that on film sets.
Anyway :-) Wonderful as always. There's no reason this show needs to exist and that's exactly why we need it. Random silliness for the heck of it. Why? Why not!

It gives me hope that Dave chose to be active, and continues to create. It would have been a shame if he'd done what Carson did and just disappeared into retirement. He really seems to be enjoying life.

Dave sure is a national treasure. I am his biggest fan and I've had the biggest crush on him for the longest time and I can't get enough of him. There is no show more entertaining than the Letterman show since the 70's. There is no one like Dave. I watch the Letterman shows that I missed when I was a kid via youtube. He was so handsome when he was young. Dave is so classy, so sexy, witty, smart, handsome, articulate, and humble too. I love how he shakes hands with a firm grip even with the kids, making them feel welcome.
I'm sorry but Carson, Jay Leno, and the other current late night hosts don't even come close to Dave... Maybe Conan and Kimmel are witty but Dave is the best. There will be no one like Dave ever.
I thank Dave for still making me laugh at night after long hours of work as a pharmacist. Stay healthy and happy Dave !!

Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome! I grew up one time town away from Rhinebeck. Never saw the aerodrome show though, although you can see the biplane flying around from a distance on weekends.

I thought Dave retired and moved to his Unabomber shack up in Montana. I thought he was living the quiet country life, fly fishing and gopher hunting. Anyway I'm glad he keeps in touch with civilization, because at this time in our history we need all the laughs we can get.
