  • I wasn't sure what artist I was going to enhance or even the song of the artist and decided on another Monkee song now one less to do. So here it is--enjoy! Kenn

One of my favorite Monkee songs. I really love this. Micky is one great singer and drummer. He really has a fantastic voice. I just love him, along with the rest of the group. 🙂

I was very fortunate to have met the Monkees except for Mike in-person at an autograph singing a few years ago. It was very cool because I had a chance to talk to them briefly and shake their hands!

After great In depth study mulling over the Monkees career I have to proclaim they are one of the best pop bands of all time. Yes people wrote songs for them and even played for them but this is just too good for words.....

Cool tune enhanced by Mickey's smooth vocal!!! If I said it once I said it a hundred times, these talented guys really did know how to rock and create songs with staying power, even 50 years later!!! RIP DAVY, MICHAEL AND PETER

Yep! This is one of my favorites! Haven't heard it in over 50 years! ...and I still remember the lyrics! Although I wish you could have somehow used an Autotune on the backing vocals. They always made me cringe. Your enhancements wonderfully filled in the original crappy, cheap stereo-mix and made it sound fantastic! Thanks for reviving this classic!

    Lyrics:
She, she told me that she loved me,
And like a fool I believed her from the start
She, she said she’d never hurt me,
But then she turned around and broke my heart
    Why am I standing here,
Missing her and wishing she were here(Hey)
She only did me wrong; (Hey)
    I’m better off alone
She, she devoured all my sweet love,
Took all I had and then she fed me dirt
She, she laughed while I was cryin’,
It was such a joke to see the way it hurt
    Why am I standing here,
Missing her and wishing she were here (Hey)
She only did me wrong; (Hey)
    I’m better off alone
And now I know just why she
Keeps me hangin’ ‘round (Hangin’ ‘round)
She needs someone to walk on,
So her feet don’t touch the ground (Don’t touch the ground)
But I love her, (Love her)
    I need her, (Need her)
    I want her, (Want her)
Yea! Yea! Yea! Yea! Yea! Yea! She!
    Why am I standing here,
Missing her and wishing she were here (Hey)
She only did me wrong now; (Hey)
    I’m better off alone
(She) Why am I missing her?
(She) I should be kissing her

Definitely a great song. Any thing that the Monkees recorded were good songs. Who wrote this song? Who recorded it 1St was it Del Shannon or The Monkees? I've also heard Del Shannon's version & it's a great song. But unfortunately his version didn't become a hit. But both songs indicate what the music sounded like & what was taking place in the 60's. It's a great song & The Monkees were also a great band. They also had a good TV Series & at times it was funny.

Kenn, you have a real knack for enhancing old favorites-the jazz organ sounds so much better with it's enhanced presence, and the unison runs between bass and guitar can be heard much better than in the original. This sounds SO much better, and that's a compliment considering the original song is so cool in the first place!

Hi Trevor. I use a Yamaha 1602 (16) track mixing console given to me by a friend. I bought a Sterling Pro Studio Microphone. The process goes something like this.(1)I start out with a clean digital audio file from a CD and do a RESTORATION from that MAGIX AUDIO CLEANING LAB (adjusting the 3 band compression/dynamics, EQ & brightness
(2). Then I move that file over the MAGIX AUDIO STUDIO 7 (multitrack program) on my HP computer and place it as track 1 or the MAINFRAME TRACK. The microphone is plugged into the sound mixer and fed into the back of the computer by aux in audio channel so it can be picked up by the multitrack program.
      (3) Then comes the critical task of deciding what instruments, percussion, vocals and keyboard might be needed to enhance the original. This is most critical job of all. There is no manual on doing this. You either know what you are doing or you do not. The TECHNIQUES change from song to song/artist to artist which is a real challenge. It helps first if you are a musician of some sort
and have a working knowledge of the genre of music you are working on
I do best with the songs of the era I grew up with 60's 70's era.
It paramount that you understand the MINDSET of the artist so as not to destroy the original. Not everyone agrees on this. Some people don't want anyone messing with the originals and others love it when I do-more like it than don't.
I do use special recording techniques similar to what I know that Geoff Emerick and George Martin used on the Beatles recordings. One technique it so record an electric guitar through a mic and plugged in at the same time.
Using piano notes placed strategically at certain parts with other instruments gives it a more sophisticated or highly polished sound. Same with guitars!
You want to adjust the EQ pods on the mixer and reapply them again on the multitrack program. Lennon used this technique on Nowhere Man's lead guitar.
      It's called signal "piggy-backing".
I sometimes feed 2 or 3 signal processors into each other for an exotic sound
or digitally sample an instrument on my Casio SK-1 and play it back at different octaves. I also like "pitch adjustment" where you can digitally change the pitch
1 or 2 octaves for unique sound. That's a few suggestions I have and there are
dozens more. You just have to experiment what what works best or sounds best. I use my gifted ear to tell if something is an improvement or should be changed or eliminated. Hope this helps! Kenn

Thank you very much, T.M.E.C. You provided more information than I thought you would. I much appreciated. I often wondered how it was done. You seem very professional and knowledgeable about it. Once again, thank-you very much. I've subscribed to your channel and been watching your videos and I like the job you do on the chosen tracks. They sound great for the most part, but on some of the Monkees' tracks just seem like they needed some bass-boost. I'm a big fan of theirs, and I have most of their music on CD format, but some of them sound a little harsh and under-produced. So that's why I wondered how you managed to improve the sound that makes a big difference. I wish I could do that to some of my other CDs from other bands that may have some badly done production. Seems like fun.

    • @cinematic35
      @cinematic35  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Never heard that question before. I use a Yamaha 1602 Sound Reinforcement mixer for my enhanced recordings. My recording and mixing talent actually comes from having a home recording studio in my friends basement in the 1990's in which we would experiment with a Tascam 8 track (sound on sound)
reel-to-reel. We would kind of reverse engineer classic oldies songs and rebuild them making our own versions on the multitracker. That eventually led to making enhanced versions of oldies classics. Hope that answers your question. Kenn
