Great video! I'd be concerned about the lack of the guardrails (not handrails) between the running rails on nearly all of the bridges seen there. I know most modern railroads have move away from their use, but suppose a rail breaks under the lead truck of the engine, especially at speed, and puts all of the wheels of that truck on the ties. There is only one outcome of that, and it isn't good for the crew!
Hope the Engineer's door was open too, so you could have a good breeze blowing threw the cab. If it was open then I bet the floors where nice an clean after the trip!
@Locomotive450 That was like nearly 20 years ago (1995 to be exact), they didn't have the technologies for the computerized systems and any better types of AAR stands.
@CRQ5508 While it might not keep the train from going over the edge, there is still a chance that it could keep the train on the deck with the guiderails in place. Whereas with no guiderails, it is a 100% certainty that the train will go over. Personally, I would like to have a slim chance versus no chance.
@espeescotty I'm not a railroader, but I think that if a rail breaks underneath a locomotive while at speed, especially on a bridge, a center guide rail is going to do nothing to keep the locomotive within the gauge, or even upright. Having seen a similar incident happen at 10mph, the track was completely destroyed and several cars wound up scattered across the ROW. I can only imagine what would happen at 40(+)mph...
At 5:30 what railroad passes below the train? Also, I seriously feel like the locomotive is actually an older NS dash-840C or dash-840B with a good KL5A, Also, too much wind.
only bad ( scary) part of this video is the bridge crossing at 6:12 I am afraid of heights and narrow bridges even in a train I would be **** in my pants going over it
Guys once I get rolling ill start making videos and posting them on my account, I'm afraid train videos got caught at work with a camera was I allowed to bring it again idk, unless he's taking a break from it
i always wanted to be a enginer and drive them trains But i always wanted to know. when the cross them big tall long trussels. Do they look down or keep there eyes straight
"Junk"? The Dash 9 platform, along the with the 7FDL-16 prime mover, is one of the most tried-and-true setups hauling freight to this day. As for no AC? Hello - this is obviously a standard cab C40-9 "top hat". The reason the standard cab C40-9 unit (which NS was the only purchaser of) are called the "top hats", IS BECAUSE OF THE TOP HAT APPEARANCE THEY HAVE FROM THE FRONT, DUE TO THE AC UNIT ON TOP OF THE CAB. The only thing that's "junk", is the fact that NS maintenance hadn't fixed the f-ing AC unit. Also (while I'm on my soapbox), is how once again, EMD fans love saying how GE's are junk, with no proof to back up that claim. GE prime movers are statistically just as reliable as EMD prime movers. The only reason we happen to see more videos of GE prime mover problems, IS BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT MORE GE'S PULLING FREIGHT OUT THERE. As of 2010, GE has 70 percent of the loco market. That number has no doubt shot up even more, since EMD has somehow been unable to get a Tier 4 EPA approved loco on the market for years - which as of right now, they still only have test Tier 4 units, and GE has had Tier 4 units pulling freight for all the major RR's for almost 2 years now. One more thing, since GM sold EMD to Caterpillar in 2005, ask loco crews which they prefer - GE, or EMD. I have heard repeatedly from crews of UP, BNSF, and others, that they much prefer GE's, and that the Caterpillar made EMD's are loud, uncomfortable, and harder on the crews.
ProgneSubisEastern that's pretty accurate. I think we should just stop the nonsense and rebuild more of the units in deadlines. There probably just as many GE and EMD units in existence, we just need them all running. #stopbuildingnewlocomotives
Accurate, lately GE has been the standard for loco's which its the same as EMD when they first started they were way better than GE, GE had tons of "teething" Issues, and they finally ironed them out. EMD just will have to work harder on there locomotives, to get them to the level of quality GE is at.
Jordan Jenkins, but then I have to wonder, why aren't there many GE 4-axle locomotives on Class 1 railroads? There still seems to be a lot of old EMD power left, but why not any older GE's?
NS ordered their first batch of dash 9 and SD70 locomotives with spartan cabs. But I guess there's several people on here that know more than me. Great video!
WOW! You really have to trust those bridges, that's for sure! Great video!
I bet the other train crew was laughing 2:53 as they turn up their ac

Holy Cow! Thats a huge bridge. It has such an awesome view
this is a lot better then the old Baldwin Steamers in the Summer. Awesome ride.
I forgot to say great video. It's always great to watch the cab ride videos!
This is your best yet!!!!The long bridges were great!
I guess its back to the old days of when AC was a luxury item.
Going over those trestles would freak me out... I would be "white-knuckling" the whole way across... Lol
Would’ve hated to have went into emergency on that last bridge 😰😢nice video
Spectacular view I must say. Please put more vids up!
Dash-9s aren't junk he's just saying that there's no ac
Hope the Engineer's door was open too, so you could have a good breeze blowing threw the cab. If it was open then I bet the floors where nice an clean after the trip!
Hi TrainCamera, huge thanks for all the videos!
Towards the end you guys were flying !!!
@espeescotty Yeah pretty scary and from the looks of it some of those trestles look to be 50 60 and likely 75 feet above ground....
Lot of nice bridges this route too

Nice view! It may be railfan sacrilege to say this, but let's see the view from the GEVO next time!
Those old brigdes freak me out!!...no guard rails??
I'd be scared to death going over the old bridges.
They’re well maintained.
Nice vid but am surprised that the longer bridges do not have the additional set of rails as on the one at 6:42.
At 5:30 what railroad passes below the train? Also, I seriously feel like the locomotive is actually an older NS dash-840C or dash-840B with a good KL5A, Also, too much wind.
+T Dawg Actually, It's a Spartan Cab Dash 9. Which is a rare find.
OK.
+Oregon Railfan Productions It's also a NS line. This is Lynchburg, Va.
Ok. Thanks.
I figured something like that with all the Kudzu. Some of those bridges remind me of the HIgh Bridge State Park. :-)
No Ac in a locomotive, that has to be murder with that big engine going! nice in the winter though
lol "yeah just use the garbage one as the head unit, she'll be alright"
Wow breath taking
@conrailqualityguy huh. it kinda looks like an SD40-2, or a GP38-2 or something.
Its an 9-40c.
Also is it possible that we'll be seeing more full sequence start up/shut down videos in the future?
I love the kudzu at 5:30.
Good clip thanks
Nice cab ride video!
I know those first crossings and switches thats my neck of the woods
C40-9
Got to do those GR9!
Ahhh, typical RAM air AC!
Standard cab boi
Awesome video!
Is the cab ride on a GE Dash 9-40C top hat
Love the view at 3:40!!! and at 5:49!!!!!
Great video, thank you so much for sharing.
whats wrong with this junk? LOL im always in a F unit or alc when on duty! very cool!
Looks more like an sd40-2 cab
sounds like the wind
He is just saying its junk because well the damn man is roasting to death in that unit with no AC....
Nice video!!!
Great Video!
i didn't know that dash 9's are junk i thought they were still sorta new
only bad ( scary) part of this video is the bridge crossing at 6:12 I am afraid of heights and narrow bridges even in a train I would be **** in my pants going over it
which do you prefer... i get mixed results when i ask csx engineers what company engines they prefer..
No wonder ns is rebuilding the standerd cab
I don't get NS. They bought the least computerized version of the Dash 9s with standard cabs, 4000 Horsepower and old AAR control stands.
Guys once I get rolling ill start making videos and posting them on my account, I'm afraid train videos got caught at work with a camera was I allowed to bring it again idk, unless he's taking a break from it
5:30 That was once a double track bridge as the track below?
5:30
thank you for the video, that was enjoing
That was once a double track. :(
@joeyf504327 Some of them are up to 18 years old.
Must be fun with NO AC.
Is that a standard cab dash 9 c40
i always wanted to be a enginer and drive them trains But i always wanted to know. when the cross them big tall long trussels. Do they look down or keep there eyes straight
Try to keep eyes straight bit you can look down if your not scared pf heights
Why do you not make any more videos
Why don't you upload any more videos?
Great Vid!!!
To me it looks like the AC was just working fine...
Where is this? It looks familiar. Is it somewhere in VA?
can't believe you are not running the long nose out ????
That SD70ACe was jus like “Oh you have no AC you cheap GE?”
whats the loco there on the head end?
where is this railroad located ?
Cool where is this???
the beginning appears to be Burkeville, VA, towards the end is Lynchburg VA.
PUT VIDEOS UP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do more long videos.
Man fuck those bridges you have over there in the U.S, so narrow, no guard rails or nothing. You derail and your history! Great video's anyway!
this a tophat?
Yes
GE and EMD are not junk , only alco are junk lol
Alco was one of the best, they had some of the first diesels, and they are still working today, plus other countries use strictly ALCO.
ALCO went out of business cause the government told them to keep making steam locos and they continued to make diesels
Trainfan 3219 I don't think that was the case, since ALCO went on into the late 60's.
Get the fuck out.
are u a conductor?
That don't look like a dash 9... More like a high hood or something
Regina Ramsey NS is the only railroad that got spartan cab Dash-9s.
High hood cab's are way different then you thought, this is an NS c40-9.
That doesn't look like it dash 9 that looks like a dash 8
It’s a C40-9
uplode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trainzguy 2472 there aren’t many left because very few were made compared to mass producing the GP units
@papilot312 ooooooohhh...... shame on youuuu......
I honestly think that would be a boring and Mentally tiring job.
Ns train
That’s a EMD, not dash 9
No it isn’t, there were and still are standard cab Dash-9s.
@@kansasstatealerting2874 Standard cab Dash 9s are extinct buddy.
@@Major_Tom98 this comment is a year old, i know that they’re all gone. the only one i can think of is just a cab on a frame.
definitely not a dash 9. lol. the dash 9's are wide bodies.
wait they have Spartan cabs. sorry about that
not a dash 9
