This is a gold mine of information and amazing music! Thank you so much for having this on your channel, Arthur. This is now required viewing for my boogie woogie piano students!
Hey thanks so much professor. I got your green book, been playing about four months. I played guitar for a while, so you make it easy to follow. I learned some Hannon exercises to build dexterity. I’m up to lick 7 in your book! Really progressing… I only listen to Big Maceo, and Otis Spann, and I just found Charlie Spand that helps. Really appreciate you sir.
I just got your book. I"m just in the "tools" you will need section, but your explanation of how to use the book is great...and while only a few pages in, you have already clarified some things I expected..thank you for the time and the effort you put into eductating.
Thanks So Much Arthur, Great & important History!! I subscribed a couple weeks ago; you have inspired me to play & I just bought a new keyboard. Fun Stuff!!
Who is that pianist who appears at 22:19 in the video, wearing the white sport coat, white hat with the dark band around it, and the sunglasses? I could not figure what the announcer said for the name.
You need to remake this documentary and complete the natural process of Boogie Woogie. It was inspired by the french forts from Alabama and Mississippi black prairie belt. When plantation owners began having cake walk parties for slaves and later share croppers, the Boogie woogie take a new life and spread to Texas and up north to St Louis and Chicago. James Reese Europe whose parents were from the Black Prairie Belt influenced Ammon, Lewis and others.
This is great Arthur. The footage of Tuts, Allen and Fess is awesome. Looked it up and it's from [1982] Piano Players Rarely Ever Play Together. Also on YT.
Such a wonderful Documentary !!! It made me fall deeper in love with Boogie Woogie !!!

Tim that is excellent to hear! Enjoy your new keyboard and playing boogie!
What is the record playing at 35:50? It sounds so familiar but i cannot place the tune or pianist. I almost hear a hint of gershwins rialto ripples
Hmm, good question! I can't quite make it out so it's hard to tell...
Who is that pianist who appears at 22:19 in the video, wearing the white sport coat, white hat with the dark band around it, and the sunglasses? I could not figure what the announcer said for the name.
Okay upon repeating that part of the video, the name is "Big Joe Duskin".
Thanks Arthur; most interesting.
17:50 Mary Lou Williams
27:56 Cab Calloway
44:20 Charlie Watts on drums🙂
Thank you for pointing that out. I was checking to see if others had picked that up or if I was mistaken. Nope. Cab Calloway is always fun to watch.
@@johnprentice1527 You are welcome :-)
I’m just gonna work on the last one. It’s doable.

Inspiration and creation are two different things. Boogie Woogie is a derivative of blues and was definitely created in Northeast Texas.
