    Very good! Makes me even more excited to get my Ric 1993 Plus. It was a toss up between that and the 660/12 but I chose the 1993 Plus as I already have a 620 (6 string) solid body. I have my eye on the Byrds 50th anniversary pedal.

    I just paid off the layaway on my 360/12 and I’m bone broke again, but I couldn’t be more satisfied with my life. After years developing my chops on a Danelectro 12 string, I have been using an Xotic SP. In trying to find the right compression sound, I was unable to get what I was looking for after buying and returning several well known boxes (MXR, Boss, EHX, DOD ) so I’m kinda skeptical about buying the jangle box without trying it out myself. It seems like you have a similar style as I, so here’s the question (at last): which Janglebox is the one to get? I’m equally inspired by Echo and the Bunnymen and REM as I am of Jim McGuinn.

    That split with/without comparison is incredible! My sites are firmly set on that 660-12 too! Stupid question - which means I'll ask anyway:
    Can you get the same tones you get here with the basic pedal or is it really worth an extra $115 for the B3. I have a Princeton 65 RI & AC10 and already have a boost function in my Dane overdrive-boost pedal.

    • @bellinghammond
      @bellinghammond  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      don't know if you've pulled the trigger yet but the basic pedal is absolutely fine!

    So what exactly was McGuinn running his Ricky through in the studio to get the monster compression? Was this like a standard rack-mounted gizmo, or what? It sure as hell wasn't
    a pedal, that much we know.

    • @bellinghammond
      @bellinghammond  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Roger's Ric was run through a **couple of LA2A compressors** and (to my ears) some kind of tape delay/slap-back echo (Turn Turn Turn) or chamber reverb...w some Putnam EQ (Pulteq?).
      I've also had good luck combing the 2x LA2A direct sound with a mic'ed Fender Reverb Deluxe sound on recordings.
      Roger himself said he couldn't get "that" sound live until the Janglebox came along, and having 'recreated' his studio sound to my satisfaction I'd have to agree, and no lie, The J-box is the way to go (at least at this point in time)

      @@bellinghammond Fascinating stuff! That's insane that it took them coming up with the pedal to nail that sound live! I'd love to buy one of these pedals at some point, if I can save up for one. It's worth it, I'm sure. Does it do anything for a 6-string as well, or is it strictly for 12-strings?

      @@vibefrequencyable barre chords don't 'jangle' as well as open voiced chords....and, it may be harder to 'fit' all your fingers cleanly on the Ric 360's (I'm not sure on that point, but the necks ARE wider on the 660/12's which is what i have)

      @@bellinghammond do you have a good accurate sourced tab for the 8 miles high solos?

    • @bellinghammond
      @bellinghammond  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@vibefrequencyable sorry, no. I don't use tabs myself because they are so rarely correct. I just 'listen' to records closely and occasionally happen upon videos/old clips that give you clues.
      Lately I've taken to 'slowing down' TH-cam videos to .75 or .5 speed to catch things as well. (click that little gear icon under the video to change speed)
      Eight Miles High is a 'freestyle improvisation' in a pseudo-Indian scale. To recreate it, it's best to do what Roger did: state the main 'theme' of the intro and then "go for it"
