Older people use it to mean “braid”, and women would be said to “plait (platt) up their hair”. Lol. Different dialects have different pronunciations.

Great video !!! What happens when one string breaks; does the whole piece gets undone?
If one string breaks, then it is possible for a vertical slit to open ... the entire piece does not unravel.
