I have fallen in love with Ennio Morricone's soundtrack for this movie. The opening movement featuring the harmonica is a reference to the Charles Bronson character in the film. Morricone's creativity is on full display.
Never heard anything like this....truly amazing....words cannot express. If you have the soul, compassion ,passion and feeling in your body....you will get this completely.
And not everybody gets it. I never realized why others didn't experience things like I did. We're all wired differently. Thank you for having a soul---and for your comment.

The face of the main female actress and the guys with the musical score highlight one of the memories in Italian put together western. I love Morricone. God blessed the Italians so much they are in everything and walk of life, from design to anything. They came up the CHurch bells and Harmica in movies and songs
I was a senior in high school when this movie came out. I didn't see it until many years after it premiered in 1969, but it has stayed with me all these years. Great movie, great sound track.
This film is the best western ever made and all the soundtracks are brilliant, i've lost track of how many times I've watched it and i'll never get tired of watching it over and over again.
I grew up watching western movies especially those directed Sergio Leone. Now, I am appreciating those musical scores more than ever with a sense of nostalgia.
Well said and well put !! I watched them as a teen at local theaters when they were first released and was too young to appreciate their great musical scores back then. Now I know better !!
His music blew me away and took me to another dimension when I was a child and now as an adult his music still takes me to a far better place other composers have come close but Ennio's music has a uniqueness that no one else has which is why I regard Ennio as one of the greatest composers of the 20th century and the greatest film score composer since film began.
Too right Thomas. I can’t believe that the film hasn’t been seen by most people that I know. Baffles me really. Never mind, I and along with many thousands of the comments that I’ve read makes me think that I’m not mad when I say that it’s my favourite film ever 👍🇬🇧.
I like the Italians very much, they are great artists! They have great painters, sculptors (Michelangelo, Da Vinci etc.), great writers (Dante, Boccaccio, Di Lampedusa, Umberto Eco etc.), composers (Vivaldi, Verdi, Morricone etc.), great film makers (De Sica, Fellini, Pasolini, Leone etc.), great actors (Claudia Cardinale, Sordi, Gastman etc.). Italian art is full of great minds and talent!!
Ennio Morricone is one of the most creative composers ever. He literally invented a new genre of music, and no one since has been able to match its unique emotional resonance. Rock meets opera meets folk meets Wagnerian epic symphony, and all in the service of a relatively low budget western made by an Italian in Spain. Talk about over-delivering!
The first single I baught just after having seen the movie and even BEFORE I had a record player !! These first notes are burnt into the memory of everyone who has ever heard it ! Never has there been something like this, ever. Ennio Morricone is a singular phenomenon and whatever music he has written before and after, this melody has marked an era.
To take it another level, watch the movie and then come back and listen to the soundtrack being played by an orchestra like this and it all comes together. Genius!
It is amazing how some many musical instruments and voices can mellow together to make such great music as the piece. See the movie and you will understand. GREAT JOB
Thomas Schmeler I saw this film when it was first released. And it still mesmerises me today . 40 something years later. And as for Claudia Cardinale . She is one scorching hot babe. And along with the music. It al adds up to perfection. The greatest Western ever. With a great cast . It was also very unusual to see Henry Fonda playing a baddy . Which he did very convincingly I thought. Cheers.
I just realized I still have to two vhs tapes of the movie! Have to get them out and watch again! We lived in the BEST time for movies. Anyone remember going to the drive--in movies every weekend??? Live was GREAT in the 60's!
Wonderful as always. What a glorious gift Morricone has for music that stirs the soul. How about a television programme of him playing his music! Thankyou for hours of beautiful music!
I agree. so important to also see the movie. Morricone was a genius at knowing how Sergio Leone would draw every ounce out of each scene. their stuff together is legent
Very nice interpretation. Unbelievable that not one frame of this film was shot before the music was written so that the film could be choreographed to the music. Movie perfection.
Simplesmente lindo, espetacular.
i never thought i could be so emotional about music, i guess my love of Sergio Leone's films and i have seen all the westerns an awful lot of times is a passion, i shed tears many and often, even now as i write, thankyou for the download and thanks Ennio Morricone, so so beautiful
I am not sure how he did this. I live in the American west. The music sounds like the land. He captured the big blue sky, the prairie and the haunting beauty of the mountains and rivers. It gets into the blood and it becomes like a love affair with the land. I even hear the sounds of the snake, birds, and deer. Tge woman in the movie is the land...and the men fight over her but she remains.
Bendiciones.
Morricone without his music the spaghetti western's wouldn't work. Genius composer. The man with Harmonica "Charle's Bronson "Once upon in the west" that is brilliant".
Imagine the pain and and blackness of heart one must possess to feel inclined to listen to such an achingly sublime piece of music and give it a thumbs down. What, dear people, vexes you souls? You truly have my utmost pity.
The scene where Bronson puts the harmonica into Fords mouth and Ford finally realizes who Bronson really is, that's my favorite movie scene of all time. Superbly acted ...
My all-time favorite movie. One of the main reasons was and is the music. Genius. Each main theme can be played with another as a duet or with the main theme. The scene where we know Charles Bronson is watching Henry and Claudia because we hear Charles' harmonica is a miracle of cinema. It came out the year Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and the year my son was born. I couldn't tell you how many times I have watched it.
This movie could easily have starred Eastwood, done very similar to his spaghetti westerns, then again I think this was one of Bronsons best performances, along with Mr Fonda of course.
This soprano did justice to the original. What a voice! Ms. Edda Del Oso who was the original soprano, and the one we hear in the movie "Once Upon A Time In The West." Would be in awe of this soprano for giving a good performance to one of films greatest songs. Brilliant!

Don't know if the music makes the movie, or the movie makes the music. BOTH ARE FANTASTIC !
