    Gregory Hines was one of the best tap dancers, it was so sad when he died.

    Love this story. My Irish mom took tap from Bo Jangles in Chicago. She taught me in our kitchen.

    Loved this piece. My mother-in-law belonged to a tap dance group of retired ladies in their 70s & 80s. They even toured & went to Russia back in their heyday.

    As a young girl I took tap and ballet. I wanted to be a dancer when I grew up. Too bad that never happened... but I sure had fun along the way!!

    My mom studied tap dancing when she was a youngster. She loved it, and was always frustrated she never made anything of it.

    When I was a kid in Indianapolis, early 60's. We lived across from a park that had a stage in the park. Every year there would be talent shows, the majority tap dance. Disappeared, not the memory or impression. Thanks

    The nickname "sandman" comes from people using sand to shuffle and make sounds without tap shoes.
    I understand that a short segment can't include all the greats, but I hope that it shows enough history to get the young kids looking at Sammy Davis Jr., Hines and others that are unforgettable. ❤️

    African slaves had access to wooden shoes called klumpen in the Netherlands language - remember New York was originally called new Amsterdam... the wooden shoe is easy to make warm in winter cool in summer..
