German notation: S= Knight (actually Springer what means jumper) L = Bishop (Läufer/Laeufer what means runner) T = Rook (Turm = the same word as the physical tower) K = King D = Queen (a Dame is a Lady)
+Schwarzwaldkind That's interesting how pieces' names vary from country to country. Polish notation would be like: Rook -> W (Wieża / Tower) Knight -> S (Skoczek / Jumper) Bishop -> G (Goniec / Messenger? Runner?) King -> K (Król) Queen -> H (Hetman, actually being the title of field marshal/general during times of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, rather than the queen or lady)
I love the "Marathon Man" reference at 21:55! lol "IS IT SAFE?!?"--an impatient Laurence Olivier repeatedly asks Dustin Hoffman, while preparing to torture him with dental tools. Look up the scene on here. It's great.
"Did Hungary exist then?" Excuse me? Hungary was founded in 896, when was the great USA founded again??? Also incorrect. Siegbert Tarrasch was Prussian.
In the period in question, Hungary did exist, however it was not independent (but autonomous). Prussia would become one of the states of Germany. Thus Finegold is correct
Aleksey Kazakevich Just to make sure that I understand you correctly. As a person who studied history would you say Hammurabi was Iraqi? I think the analogy is the same.
I wonder if Ben ever gets tired of making the same jokes every single game. "e4 exclam" "Never play f3/f6" "I attacked his queen but he saw it" "Mate, with advantage." Seriously man, write some new material.
German notation:
S= Knight (actually Springer what means jumper)
L = Bishop (Läufer/Laeufer what means runner)
T = Rook (Turm = the same word as the physical tower)
K = King
D = Queen (a Dame is a Lady)

+Schwarzwaldkind We have the same notation in norwegian.
Der Grund, weshalb sie das gleiche in skandinavischen Sprachen heißen, ist einfach weil die Sprachen verwandt sind.
+Elias Dottemar halts maul ;)
Bishop is actually 'gunman' or 'shooter' in Czech. Knight is a 'horse', otherwise it's the same as in German. :)
The sarcasm is so strong with Ben. I love his vids.
Everytime he said "exclam!" I lost it. lol
+CalvinistOnACouch he very funny double exclamation mark
I lose it every time he says Mike Kummer.
"Now I am threatening mate with advantage.. Then he could castle with my rook" Can't stop laughing LOL!!!
Amine Asli And through check.
+Ryan Zheng In check, through check, into check, with mate in pretty soon even if we pretend the rook isn't there, which I imagine was his plan
My day became happier because of this upload. Finegold is the best.
"don't sue me. your beer's great."

I'm watching it 4 years later... Is there still popcorn?
Knight d2 is the Tarrasch variation in case you couldnt hear
Watching these analysis lectures with pros vs novices is a great way to improve your punish game.
God listened to my wish!Ben is back!
Holy crap. So many videos uploaded all at once!
I love watching Ben Finegold doing lectures. Cheesy humour and chess - dosn't get much better. Thank you Ben. :)
The Marathon Man joke at 21:50 was brilliant.
I need a smarter audience. I can't get enough of this guy.
I love this guy, he teaches chess and he's such a joker
calling him a joker is kinda offensive I guess
Don't sue him, DC comics.
Look at this pathic Uchiha
Just terrible
and now he can castle with my rook haha!LOL
+stanhirt Through check
Ben you are hilarious, keep up the good work.
You need to do some joint videos with IM Thomas Rendle.
Simp
YES A NEW VIDEO WITH BEN.
22:25 there mate in one after Bb6 - isn't queen D6 mate?
I'm gonna feel really dumb if i'm wrong
incorrect! he said Bb7, but on the other part... i think you are correct
Bb7.
And King can take Knight.
I love the "Marathon Man" reference at 21:55! lol
"IS IT SAFE?!?"--an impatient Laurence Olivier repeatedly asks Dustin Hoffman, while preparing to torture him with dental tools. Look up the scene on here. It's great.
GM Ben Finegold is the absolute best. CCaSCoSL, can every lecture please be GM Ben Finegold? Please?
15:51 if robert hess was here he would complain that its making this weird noise hahaha
L is short for Löpare (Bishop) in swedish. Why does he write in swedish?
Adam de Man Lapidoth
L is also short for "Läufer", the german word for "bishop". Also is T short for "Turm", the german word for "rook".
I thought your went against bobby fisher there for a second, I was lik woah...
lovetownsend... Me too
No, that was Ben's father, the late NM Ronald Finegold, who sadly passed away some years ago.
Yeah you definitely don't speak good English
36:41 Rxd3
36:34 can't black just play Rxd3 instead of g6? the pawn is free, because taking it with the rook allows NxC1 forking both rooks
No
@@guts2044 ahh, how insightful
what is the application being used to display games in these videos?
yay more finegold!
Dear mr. Finegold!
Just for the sake of accuracy, it's nH3 that smells, not nH4. But good joke anyway. Also, please make more videos
Realrebitsch it's Grand Master Finegold.
Or CH4
“The french defense” So the player resigned immediately?
Boom roasted
he is so entertaining

13:26 - 13:33 WIN
what does exclam in notation mean
! is for a good move. So, for example, bb5+!
@@stevenweinstein1883 your notation is bad fix it or delete it
Keep it going! :)
But NH4 means nothing. I think he meant CH4 as methane but who knows
He means ammonium which is technically Nh4+ but it's just a joke.
I am the only one here from less than 4 years ago 👀 feels weird
Did he just say "misunderstatement" ? :)
second time he mentioned marathon man. I think that movie traumatized him!
Scherzkeks!
In the last game after G6 Nh4 black had RxQP! Of course white is still winning after R-F1 R(1) to D8 P-E4 but RxR NxB would be funny.
Your notations are terrible pawn is not P
Knight c3 exclam!! :)

Just to make sure that I understand you correctly. As a person who studied history would you say Hammurabi was Iraqi? I think the analogy is the same.
Marvin Prussia would become one of the states of Germany when Tarrasch was a child. The analogy is quite different
Marvin Long live Trianon.
