  • Helsinki is well-known for its innovative art, culture and architecture, so it's no surprise that underneath the city's surface, a unique subculture is on the rise. And while techno music and underground dance parties are nothing new for Helsinki, what is notable is the vast number and variety of these events. Often considered to be Finland's only metropolis, it is the world's northernmost metro area with over one million people as well as the northernmost capital of an EU member state.
In this short video, I'm walking along the popular Esplanadi (The Esplanade Park), fondly referred to as "Espa" among locals. Located in the South Harbour area, it is the most famous park in Finland and the green heart of Helsinki.
Much to my surprise, I also captured Finnish final-year students celebrating 'Penkkarit' with a traditional parade in which they celebrate the end of class in preparation for their final matriculation exams later in the Spring.
