They are both beautiful! Each in its own unique way. The roaring sound reminds me of hiking with my father 30 years ago. He had an Optimus 71.

The 8R also came in a twin burner model that was very good if you had a small vehicle and space was at a premium. Take care.

Have got the 8R Hunter. Bought new 45 years ago and still in regular use.
A trusty, reliable old 'tractor' as the shop assistant in the local Outdoor Shop called it. Went in Monday to order a replacement Gasket / Seal for the Tank Cap. The first .. not bad for 45 years. The only other maintenance / repair required was replacing the Graphite Seal in the Burner Control Valve Stuffing Box approx 10 years ago.
    Love this Stove 👍😊.

Used my 8R for two decades and even burned through the pot supports lol
Still have it and bought another a few years ago.
Been using a Trangia for the last 8 years, super quite.
Yesterday i found a used 123R and i just had to buy it.
It's the most adventurous romantic looking stove.

Wow! How do you get totally ice blue flames? Did you do any adjustements to the flame spreader plate?

@@emilsilenhag you men White gas, I assume?. These dont run on kerosene/paraffin ;)
I have just bought an ole Svea 123. Struggelig a bit with jets that give a bit too rich fuel blend and yellow flame tips. The jets produced in portugal is very uneven in quality.

Simplified 8P as was done in Germany, in a tin biscuit box is climbing burner. The same, but easier. Can a divorce from her as gasoline burner tilt. A Swea can not in any way.(упрощённый 8R, как в Германии делался, в жестяной бисквитной коробке и есть альпинистская горелка.

I know they’re very similar, but have you ever done a boil test to see if one has a higher output? Twins look the same, but they often have different personalities.

If you had to cook with only one of them, which would you choose and why?

    • @emilsilenhag
      @emilsilenhag  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I would probably choose Svea because its so simple and need very little priming. I dont use the pump, I like it simple. The 8R is a little bit more stable but not as charming like the Svea.

if one stove was the only choice for every possible situation i would choose the 8r. why? both stoves have similar heating performance and fuel efficiency but the svea can be very tippy and unstable if you are on soft ground with no way to improvise some sort of a solid base. i have seen many meals from other hikers ruined because their stove tipped over unexpectedly due to soft ground. yes, the 8r is heavier and bulkier to pack but the stability is not just a little bit better than the svea, it's like comparing a unicycle to a rolls royce.

This can be caused by using the low noise cap instead of the original flame dispersion cap. Take care.

There is a safety problem with the low noise cap. The low noise cap can cause overheating which will back up into the tank and cause flaming gas to spray out the pressure relief in the cap. If the pressure relief fails, the tank can explode. Take care.
