At 4:50 that's Tatsuya Nakadai who plays the restaurant owner. He was also Shinza in the 1990 version of _13 Assassins_ and the "Pinwheel Hamakichi" series, both of which can be seen on this SAMURAI VS NINJA channel. Nakadai also had a major role in the 1971 Japanese movie _Battle of Okinawa._ It's hard to believe but he is now 90 years old. At 36:55 the character in the center is Toru Masuoka who plays Yohei in this movie. He played the long time friend of Zankuro on the TV series Gokenin Zankuro. He was the magistrate who often talked Zankuro into helping out in difficult police cases. I think he also played a similar role of magistrate in the "Pinwheel Hamakichi" series.
@@Dr.Pepper001 Sanjuro is excellent and is the sequel to yojimbo, which was remade as the Clint Eastwood western A fistful of dollars. His best film is sword of doom where he plays an evil samurai who is kind of like the samurai version of Michael Corleone from the Godfather. The long duel at the end of sword of doom is the best ever filmed (imo).
WADR to Toshiro Mifune, Tatsuya Nakadai might be the best Japanese actor of all time. His credits are endless. He appeared in five Kurosawa films, with starrring roles in Kurosawa's last two epics, Kagemusha and Ran. It would be hard to pick a favorite Nakadai film, but "Harikiri" (1962) is one of them.
In the original movie Inn of Evil N. Tatsuya plays Sadashichi, in this adaptation he plays the landlord, it is amazing how played different characters with ease and flair.... great upload 👌
Nakadai was also in the original film of this. Title is INN OF EVIL. It CO starred Shintaro Katsu, famous for portraying ZATOICHI, in all 24 or so films, plus the TV series of the same name.
Yes, this is re-make of "INN OF EVIL", older black and white film from 1971, directed by Masaki Kobayashi. In original film Inn of Evil, Tatsuya Nakadai play role of Sadashichi. Shintaro Katsu in role of "Nameless Wanderer" was also in this film from 1971.
As it began, I felt certain I had seen this film years ago, but something was clearly different. Now, I realize why. I hadn't seen this remake before, but it doesn't seem to me that they changed the script very much.
The first edition of this masterpiece was directed by Kobayashi in 1971. Who is the director of this one? If somebody knows, please let me know. Thank you.
I've been a fan of Japanese period movies and I found this quite engrossing. T think the first half set the impact of the second half quite nicely. Two thumbs up!
SAMURAI VS NINJ would you be uploading Sho Kosugi(Family) Sonny Chiba & Hiroyuki Sanada movies along with Lonewolf & Cub(Shogun Assassin moive-series) anytime soon?

He also played Toshiro Mifunes arch rival in Sanjuro. Not seen? Watch it!!
@@marklutz8499 -- I haven't seen Sanjuro but I'll see if I can find it. Thanks.

I can't find _Inn of Evil_ anywhere. Where did you watch it? I'm a huge Shintaro Katsu fan and am trying to see all his films.
He played the role of the character Sadashichi...
Thanks for your sharing
Excelente, gracias, adelante

Second comment, and it looks good, and I will get back, once it is over.

I could be wrong, but from what I can gather, this was a made-for-television movie in 1982 with the title of "Jigoku no Okite".
