How to Hydro Dip A Guitar at Home. DIY Bass Guitar Swirl Tutorial.

Today we are doing a tutorial on how to hydro dip any bass or guitar or really whatever. I am using an ibanez sr305E in this video but this would be the same with whatever instrument you have. To hydro dip aka paint swirl you need some magic marble paint, primer, spray paint basecoat, clear coat, sandpaper, and wood filler if necessary. I get the hydro dip paint on magicmarble.com. I do not recommend hydro dipping with spray paint. If you want professional results use professional materials. I hope you guys like this tutorial whether you have an old guitar you want to restore or you want to paint a new one the process should be about the same.

You need to wet sand the clearcoats between layers with 1800 to 2000 grit papers. This ensures a mirror smooth deep clear finish without dimpling.

Dude, this looks beautiful! I definitely have to get into hydrodpping and custom guitars some time. You should do some Harley Benton guitars from Thomann; they're insanely cheap for the quality! I just bought a les paul style one from them and it's the best guitar I've ever owned.

I'd love to see a Rickenbacker 4001 bass hydro-dipped. I'm sure McCartney would have used one during the Sgt. Peppers era if it had been available. Great video.

Hey your base looks real close to the same color as the blue magic marble. What paint did you use and did you just eye match the color or have it matched. Looks awesome with just 2 colors. Thanks. J

Thanks for the awesome video! By any chance do you know if I still need to sand the original finish in a guitar body if it’s white? I’d just be sanding to remove white so I can spray white primer back on it

Yes you need to sand it just enough so the paint get cloudy this will ensure a proper coat

I tried My first Hydro dip on old Peavey Foundation Bass. Gray base coat. Used Majic Marble paints and, well needless to say, Back to the drawing board. Didn't get full coverage and the magic marble bubbled. Any suggestions? Did bubbling occur due to water temp?
