I've been using the Guide Pro pants since 2019, not 2009!

I love my grid soft shell hoodie from Eddie Bauer which I bought because of you. It works so perfect as a full zip, slightly insulated wind proof outer layer that evaporates sweat well. Put it to the test backpacking Algonquin this week and it came thru as my best layer with my Brynje wool fishnet base layer. Thanks for the amazing example!

I love watching those videos where you share your thoughts on the gear you use! Those fleece quarter zip and zip up hoodies are amazing. That's all I use as well! Different company but same concept!

Appreciate that Marty - I figure if I've used something a lot may as well make a quick video. Someone might find it useful. EB gear is so readily available - but some people might think it's not good enough compared to other brands. Works fine IMO.

Do you use waterproof pants? Seems to me on winter trips having a waterproof outer layer on the bottom would be ideal however I never see you mention that as part of your layering system. Great video, thanks!

Generally speaking I don’t have wp pants in the winter. For what I am doing in the winter, rain is a no go and it means time to bail on the objective. For shoulder season they make a lot of sense, and I show them in this video: th-cam.com/video/KwYkMyyKJPw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Qyggi7OQ1JaEtu-a
I haven’t packed wp pants for summer trips in over 15 years. That’s clearly location dependent. Someone’s brain will probably explode and say it’s bad advice for camping in Scotland or northern Alaska. Every system has a time and place depending on the expected (normal) conditions and what you’re doing (objective).

I really appreciate your gear overviews; straightforward, based on real usage, and no smash cuts.
And I absolutely believe Eddie Bauer has some great products that are unjustly ignored by the online backpacking community.
As an example, I swapped out my ghost whisperer for their microtherm 1000 down hoodie as it’s only a couple ounces heavier, most of that extra weight is down, has synthetic fabric in the armpits to cut down on clamminess, and it’s higher quality down - plus it was cheaper.

      Appreciate the feedback.
I could speculate on several reasons why EB is generally overlooked...

Nice video as always! Bought the soft shell jacket because of you and absolutely love it! I love the grid fleece but would love to know why you seem to prefer grid fleece over other fleece's types or other material like wools as part of your layering system? Thanks!

Great video Kane, and YES Eddie Bauer should sponsor you. I have a few of those products too, I love their Guide Pro Pants and Shorts too because of the sizes and the fit, but I really love the pockets and the pocket placement is perfect for me. I must look at that Grid Fleece shirt, looks interesting, and I love my Grid Fleece Hooded soft shell too.

Softshell\windproof grid fleeces are the piece of equipment i've also discovered on a whim, and they are my favourite part of winter kit now. I use decathlon windwarm trek 900, but looking for a lighter alternative.
That's exactly how i ruin my jackets in winter too, also ski ice falls, so i use 60d freeride shell, and it's still patched with gear aid tape all over.
As for pants, brands have sales all the time, so i have no issues with montane price, as i buy them at 50%, and the are better fitted than everything i've ever worn.

I think that if you like that much your Sandstone hoodie, you should buy an other one right now before they change anything on it and you regret the one you have , just in case 😋

Tall large... none of the clearance available. Looks like they are changing the colours so not too concerned with it being discontinued. I'll probably pick up one of the new versions regardless - better safe than sorry.@@bonpecheur4565
