- One guy who does a lot of damage vs. 23 guys who do barely any damage? Sounds like Saxton Hale with extra steps! Super Zombie Fortress is TF2's equivalent of L4D2, which I didn't even know was possible within the engine but here we are! This mode isn't that bad once you get the hang of it, but being a survivor is MUCH more fun than being a zombie since you don't die nearly as often.
I'd also like to point out that I've never played L4D2, so if I sounded like I had no idea what any of the the zombies were it's because I had no idea what any of the zombies were. With this valuable knowledge in mind, please don't get too upset about my lack of game understanding.

To respond to a majority of the comments, no, I have never played Left 4 Dead. I did play more of the mode since recording this though and it's a lot of fun under the right circumstances.

It's actually kind of impressive to see what's basically Left 4 Dead 2 on the TF2 branch of the source engine, and with a plugin no less, it's not even a source mod.
How do you get to the zombie server
This game mode is one of my favorites because of how many different ways the rounds can play out with different weapons, maps, and zombies that can spawn. Sometimes reds win easily, sometimes only one person lives, sometimes blues win last minute, i find it all a glee to watch and play

If you haven't tried it yet, I would highly recommend zombie escape as well. Despite being a zombie game, it's played almost completely differently. The zombies have ten of thousands of hit points, but take a bunch of knock back, so the strategy turns into keeping them away more than killing them. The maps themselves are a big part of this, where you need to hold specific areas before escaping to another holding point. The toughness of it comes from the instant transformation into zombie that occurs, so one player on red can easily cause a snowball effect if he isn't kept away.
The true fun part of this is how much teamwork is needed, as one player can't hope to stall even a scout zombie for long. You have to fight together or die together. Even sniper can do this with explosive arrows and their own knock back, leading to a pulse pounding game as you race away from almost immortal zombies rapidly gaining on you.
this is basically l4d2 versus mode but with a few differences

at 5:15 your teammate picked the winger up meaning it switched places with his pretty boy's pocket pistol that he already had

32 players SZF was a fun mayhem.

Sad that there isnt any active SZF server in asia, and the one in Us/EU have limited active time before basicaly ded again

So I’m 95% sure the reason you didn’t ever find a primary is the scout who was final survivor that game took everything first and the primaries are rare to spawn

I liked it very much
One of the things to probably note is that each time you were a zombie with a unique viewmodel, you were a special infected. There’s 9 of them.
The Hunter is a scout that can do a leap, stunning the target landed on so you can claw at them for massive damage.
The Smoker is the sniper that you said really needed to work out, it has a laser tongue that drags survivors towards him.
The Jockey is a small soldier that can jump onto people and ride them around.
The Screamer is a medic in a straight jacket that can rally your teammates, providing a defensive buff.
The Charger is a Demoman with a big arm, he can charge forth, carrying the first survivor he hits with him until the end of the charge.
The Boomer is a Heavy that you said looked like a balloon, he can explode and cover everyone in the blast with jarate, or he explodes on death which covers the killer and assister in jarate.
The Tank is a massive heavy who runs fast, hits hard and has a lot of health.
The Spitter is a Pyro with their head split in half, they can spit a cloud of acid that damages everyone in it. They drop the same cloud on death.
The Stalker is a spy that is invisible with speed rivaling scout’s. When he gets close to someone he decloaks. Backstabs do damage “equal to the number of good Die Hard movies, 3” and give an effect that makes your screen monochrome, makes your vision blink in and out, slows you down by a lot, and you can’t switch weapons during it.
On the left side in the chat box, you will know when you spawn as one. There’s a musical cue for each one spawning in.
This mode is an underrated gem of custom modes. You cant change my mind. Hopefully this video will bring more attention to the mode

I like the special infected that can appear like the Screamer (0(A cut Infected from the game) also pretty sure it wasn't called the Screamer), and also the Tank, the spitter and others, Pretty cool
Dang, I haven't played this gamemode in over a year, looks like a lot has changed. It used to be the case that zombies would one or two shot humans, but pyro was stupid overpowered and had to have his airblast nerfed a lot. Picking up weapons and special zombies like the big heavy and morale are entirely new to me.
@Аркадий Афанасьев I find it funny how there's so many zombie modes in tf2, medic v engie, survival, fortress and escape.
I saw a version of this mode that had a crazy story line with boss battles which was really fun, the zombies usually just chilled with the reds at the end hoping they defeat the boss

Wish zombie fortress perks didn’t die off. It was very unique, never seen anything else quite like it. Definitely much more interesting that the zombie game modes we have now.

This gamemode is basically just left for dead zombie mode but with a boss at the end that never gets killed cuz the team has a hard time fighting both the zombies and the boss at the same time

Ah yes, the perfect backing music to accompany the oncoming hordes of zombified versions of your favorite mercenary friends, is not a foreboding spooky track that would play in the obligatory scary level of a video game, nor even Left 4 Dead's own soundtrack, but Honeyhive Galaxy, a goofy bee song from a whimsical and fun Mario adventure where he zips about in space like a comet and has to save Peach from Bowser's new base at the center of the universe, all while being assisted by a space goddess and her literal ARMY of baby star children who can turn into things!

Hands down, the best map has to be Isaac. How they animated the bosses is phenomenal and not to mention replayable as hell (if you’re not infected)
i can say the experience is very weird but its really fun

It’s fun but frustrating because a lot of maps have some stuff that can lead to bullshit deaths or confusing design. I think this mode is a lot more fun when a few people are making sure the others don’t get left behind. Also scout weapons make me sad because they feel so rare
Since you've tried Super Zombie Fortess, you should try it's perk versiom Zombie Fortress. It's a bit weirder but they usually have more variety, especially with the perks. Though it can be a tad unbalanced. I recommend searching Zombie Hell since it's the only Zombie Fortress server standing with perks.
That server crashes when the player count gets too high. I think it crashes at ten players from what I remember. If he were to try zombie fortress perks, he’d be better off making his own server running the plugin as it got updated by someone on the allied modders forum fairly recently.
I’d absolutely love to see him play it though, it’s such a shame that game mode died because it was super fun.
@@SerinitySack Only problem is that they never update, it's only VSH, I'm not sure if he'll update it. Though hopefully someone else uses the updated plugin to make a brand new zf server.
Sad that Zombie Mod and Escape are way more popular than this mod unless something changed in the last 4 years.

When I played Zombies in TF2 the maps kept turning into obnoxious 'wait at this line or die' points every 5 seconds and I have no idea how reds were supposed to lose

There is another game mode called Zombie Escape the Black wonder and skial servers are really fun if I remember correctly in the Black wonder ZE servers you would only be a Zombie if you join late but in the skial servers you become a zombie 2 times before you become a human but overall both are pretty fun Skial has a variety of maps (mostly from CSS) and blackwonder has maps both from CSS CS:GO and made by the TF2 community themselves

You should try playing Zombie Escape or Zombie Survival (Medic vs Engineer)

It's honestly so unfair when you get put on the infected side and it's 2 of you vs a whole team. I quit whenever I get put on infected. They should really rework this game mode so it starts with 4 infected instead of just 2 to make it more fair for the zombies

My man never played L4D/L4D2? Damn, if this mode was funny or anything, L4D Is 10 times that.
But I must say, this mode looks amazing, even the animations and some zombies are exactly like the Left.
