  • Hello everyone
Welcome back. I've had a wonderful week achieving alot of makes and meeting up with friends. The lovely Adam from ‪@AdamSews‬ called in on his way to Sewtoon and ‪@StitchedUp‬ came along too to join us for coffee and cakes. I don't need any reason to start baking!

I am also reviewing the Mabel Dress by Tilly and the Buttons. I have called this vlog Modifying Mabel by which I mean, not just the pattern but most importantly the construction. Now i must apologise to my filming of techniques which I have today solved with the purchase of further equipment - see below.

I also want to thank you all for your wonderful comments and kind words on my previous vlogs and for coming along to watch them.
If you wish to contact me my email is runningsewnsew@gmail.com
If you wish to support me on my vlogging journey and would like to buy me a Kofi my link is below or you can use the thanks button under the vlog. I have today purchased a boom arm to attach to my tripod to aid in filming techniques.

My family lived in a motel for 2 months in 1975 while waiting for our home construction to be completed in Petaluma, Ca. During that Time I sewed 100 yards of fabric into lined drapes for our new 2,000 square foot home. Crazy. They were beautiful but I never made another drape. Never! And I never again took a sewing machine to a motel.

YAY! Finally had a few minutes to finish watching your vlog. Good descriptive Mable review. Super excited to see Adam in your house. Eager to meet him someday and talk sewing machines. I commissioned the two bowl cozies that I have and love them. I have the Accuquilt Go bowl cozy die if you want to make some while you’re here. Or maybe just cut them out with the die and make them later! Talk soon…

I believe you can put bowl cozies right in the microwave as well so that when you take out your hot food, your hands are protected from the heat. Of course, that would require all cotton fabric, batting, and thread however. Your Mabel fabric is gorgeous. I always enjoy your videos!

I forgot about the bowl cozies, I made about 20 of them one year for Christmas gifts, they were a big hit!!! Great way to use up small pieces of fabric. It was fun to match up different fabrics and different colors of thread and decorative stitches on my machine. Love the fabric of your Mabel dress!

My Machine has traveled only a couple of times! (solid metal, 1983) The most memorable was when I was making one of many costumes for my younger son - who just loves dressing up in costumes 😁This one was for a Cos-play event, and we were getting really skinny on time. So I loaded her up and drove quite a distance to his house to figure out how to finish up the jacket - the only part I needed to 'invent' , and it was very helpful to have his real-life self to fit it onto! It took a few hours, but we got 'er done, and was actually complimented by the creators of the anime series! A huge happy for both of us! Love your Mabel! Happy sewing!😘

Funny thing Judi, I automatically thought that the Mabel WAS empire waisted....so if I had any intention of making one, I would have automatically added several inches to the bodice without thinking about it. Yours is such a lovely colour on you!

I bought the pattern having seen the pattern envelope model wearing it at the stitch festival and the dress was on the waist. The instructions just kiss some vital information and sadly have poor construction advice - it’s a lovely dress it just needs a lot of adjustments 🙈🙈🥰🥰

Your dress looks lively Jude, great tip on the shirring. I did scratch my head when trying to attach the top to the bottom once shirred, round peg square hole came to mind! I too dont feel comfy in mine as i dont like the waist riding up.
Ive just toiled making the top with iut shirring as i love the top part. I just lengthen it by 13". I also sized down to a size 4 and i love it. X

I’ve lost count of the number of bowl cozies I’ve made. I’ve sold them as well as given them as gifts. I use only cotton fabric, but my batting is 80/20, so they aren’t suitable for the microwave. I put a label on them saying so, but it’s not really an issue just lifting the bowl out with a tea towel and popping it into the cozie. They’re perfect for holding ice cream too. X
