I say this because I’ve been a fan of his music for quite some time now, and I can attest that he uses his rare gift of voice as an instrument to expose his heart. Whilst most artists use their voice as a means to profit or celebrity, he refuses to commercialize his, but rather uses it to create beautiful moments; to touch and soothe the spirit. The cultural(gikuyu)implication of his sound evokes our ancestors’ spirit. To be able to deliver sound in it’s purest form as he does, it goes without saying that he’s worked hard in his personal development, both as an artist and as a human. Anyone who appreciates sound art will attest to having had their emotions affected in a way that they can’t explain while listening to his music. I am a lucky recipient of his generosity, but I’m a bit sad that his music(and those of other equally talented artists)rarely gets the airtime it so deserves. Today, I’m challenging those who appreciate his music to share it widely and to support him by purchasing his music on iTunes and attending his shows when he organizes them. By so doing, we shall be helping to not only share his talent, but also making sure that our future generations will know something about our almost forgotten culture.

But for an authentic, self-respecting artist, their motivation is derived from unique experiences from their cultures that they are deeply-rooted into. The only way for an artist to not lose their authenticity is by not monetizing their music. I am convinced that Kwame is one of the few artists who have chosen and decided to stick to this less-traveled path.
