As I write this it is 2022. In high school my choir performed the F. Melius Christiansen arrangement of this piece a capella. Even though I have not performed this piece for 52 years, I am still deeply moved when I hear it. Top marks and sincerest thanks to the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra.
I first heard this when i was battling with the feelings of a departed loved one, and I had gone to house sit someone elses home. On awaking the cd played and me thought heavenly angels were comforting me. These sounds are from heaven
Requiem music tends to be sad, dark, it exacerbates sorrow sometimes. Yet, this sounds hopeful, mysterious, peaceful, angelic in a way, it is not grandiose as a “Sanctus” but more focused on the passage/transformation of a soul to enter heaven. It’s just absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for the the work, composition, the performance. The highest quality as ever from The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. THE Choir.
There are no words to describe the beauty of this celestial masterpiece. After singing this under the direction of Craig Jessop in Carnegie Hall in February of 2019, it has become a part of my soul.
This was traditionally sung during the Roman Catholic funeral Mass. REQUIEM aeternam dona ei (eis), Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei (eis). Requiescat (-ant) in pace. Amen. ETERNAL rest grant unto him/her (them), O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him/her (them). May he/she (they) rest in peace. Amen.
All the "Requiem aeternam"s I have heard are so ethereal and beautiful. Martin Lauridsen and John Rutter. But I've heard this one in movie scores. John Rutter's has four sections. Others may have their own versions. Please post if you know others. This type of music deserves its own genre: "Lux aeternam" after the one Lauridsen composed. Of course, Benjamin Britten and Ralph Vaughan Williams were, I think, the first ones to compose in this effort.

This is the perfect music for the Tabernacle choir... it's their sound.
Once again I thank you for an excellent performance.
I will be purchasing Mack Wilburg Requiem in the near future.
a 'joyous requiem' played on the strings of hope and proclaimed in bright solemnity in the Gardens of an Atonement
A blessed celestial Amen, and Amen, an all encompassing blest Shalom.
Absolutely heavenly

Lyrics
Requiem aeternam dona eis, domine!
et lux perpetua luceat eis.
Herr, gib ihnen die ewige Ruhe,
und das ewige Licht leuchte ihnen.

Same words probably, but not with this original composition.
Sublime
