+Nicholas Gray While I am not an audio restoration expert, I use a lot of the features build into Audacity and Reaper software in order to remove static from old audio and to amp it up a bit. I can also use some tools to smooth it up the best I can. I am not perfect at restoration, and a lot of the older 1900s (nearly destroyed!) phonograph recordings will never sound great, but I strongly believe that my restoration at least makes them audible. It has required a bit of reading online and experimentation with these programs. Reading and experimentation enabled me to feel comfortable with these programs.
