Example: @5:30 on the video, with a ball in the air, if it was a high ball, long ball and the projection of the ball is landing on the attacker's stick (yellow player) then the defender (red player) needs to retreat 5M away from the attacker for control.

Rule 9.8 states that where there is play leading to dangerous play the free ball must be awarded where the danger was caused. (In this case that is where the ball was raised from). I think the interpretation you gave originated with a Canadian umpire named Keely Dunn - and if it did it should be ignored. This might amuse you.
