    I fitted and rode with the new .144 tube STIC this weekend. Wow, power was linear and very strong on the top end. I felt comfortable riding a gear higher in many places. So much fun to ride. I have a little bit more tuning I want to try before deciding on the final settings, but very positive and a significant difference from the stock block. Look out for a review video soon.

    STIC Tuners: A/S and Pilot: The pilot jet plays a significant role in the STIC power system as the pilot fuel and its related air circuits are connected to the main tube outlet. The larger adjustment on the A/S plays a significant role in making the large pilot run clean, and it siphon breaks the pilot when you come back to idle. As far as the power circuit is concerned one could go to an even larger pilot #52/54. In some of the units here, we run pilots #60's and larger. All jet sizes have a transition point where the flow rate at low-speed flow is diminished as the size increases beyond a certain point. This applies to main jets as well as the smaller pilot jets. In this analogy compare a ¼” inch straw to a 1.5” straw; even though the larger straw will flow more liquid it will take more suction [vacuum] to cause that to happen. Further, as the suction [vacuum] diminishes to a certain level, the flow through the larger straw will stop abruptly causing it to run clean. Further, the larger pilot passage requires greater suction. A # 50 [fifty] pilot is .018" in diameter; the STIC crossover passage is [.031"]. As I said; the larger the pilot beyond a certain threshold; will run cleaner due to having a larger cross-sectional area. In summation, I hope this gives you a different outlook on how the STIC system operates. George STIC Headquarters

    When changing the pilot jet be sure to place a few drops of oil on the threads to ensure that it fully seats.

    I wonder how it all compares to Lectron high velocity 38mm carb. Coz all I do with Lectron to get perfect jetting is 1) entering the winter season I turn the metering rod 1/4 turn in, and power jet 1/8 turn out; 2) entering the summer season I turn the metering rod 1/4 turn out and power jet 1/8 turn in.

    • @TokyoOffroad

      I haven't had the opportunity to try a Lectron on my bike. I have read a lot about them and it appears that some love them (like you) and others don't. Those that don't like the Lectron typically complain about the bottom end response/power. johnpaulstez just left the following comment on my STIC Ride Review Video: "Sounds like you got that 1/8ish throttle blubbery spot cleaned up pretty well. I just can’t seem to get it straight on my 2017. I have a lectron with like five different metering rods, and that critical low RPM spot is just a mess."

    Good review!, i was interested in purchase or go with lectron, any thoughts on lectron carb vs smart carb or modified like yours?

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I couldn't be happier with the Keihin PWK 38mm Air Striker Short + STIC metering block combination. If you're looking for maximum power, crisp response and broad power band it's an excellent solution. Every time I ride with it I can't stop smiling:
      th-cam.com/video/P0_htoLhn5Y/w-d-xo.html
      But compared to other solutions it is a little more expensive (about $330 + $295). One route you could consider going is getting the Keihin first, see how you like it and it you want even better performance purchase the STIC later.
      Regarding the SmartCarb, I did a review video and found it to be plug and play. Power is smooth, resulting in good traction.
      th-cam.com/video/_UemW9bim_E/w-d-xo.html
      I have not ridden with a Lectron on my bike. I've read mixed reviews of Lectrons. Some people like them, others do not. Setting appears to be tricky for some.

    So what does this do? Does it self adjust? Or what

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The STIC replaces the stock jet block in Keihin PWK carbs and holds the pilot and main jets and specially designed emulsification tube. Different size STIC emulsification tubes are available. 114A is recommended for 125s. Compared to a stock carb the STIC is far less sensitive to temp and elevation changes. I ride year round (-5C thorough +30C), elevation changes sea level to 2,000m with the same jetting and only find it necessary to fine tune the air screw setting.The STIC emulsification tube promotes very thorough mixing of gasoline and air due to it's special design.

      No, specific problem with the Keihin. Having tried the Keihin + STIC it does work much better though. Power and torque are stronger, yet very linear and responsive. Also very consistent over weather and elevation.

    What's the purpose of this metering block?

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The STIC metering block holds the pilot, main and needle tube jets and replaces the stock Keihin block. It allows fuel to pass from the bowl to the venturi. The STIC accelerates fuel into a vortex, resulting in ultra fine fuel vapor in the venturi. The benefits over the stock block include increased power, improved throttle response, reduced sensitivity to elevation and temperature changes and more complete combustion.

    Is this ok for a stock application? I have no mods other than planning a JD Jetting kit on my 2016 Husqvarna TE300 with a Keihin carb. And where did you get that fantastic idle screw? The plastic one on my carb has seen better days.

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can certainly add a STIC with the rest of the bike stock and experience a good increase in performance. I would recommend using a higher compression head too if budget allows. I recommend and RK Tek heads and they are excellent. The adjusters are made by Smokn: th-cam.com/video/JWyMjE9M2rw/w-d-xo.html

      Jessica Hegion not true

    • @sandmanbub
      @sandmanbub 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Race gas (higher octane fuel) only serves to prevent pre ignition and detonation caused by high compression and advanced timing. Nothing else. Race gas does not add horse power, it only allows some higher horse power engines to run properly. Carburation has nothing to do with the percentage of octane in a fuel.

    April 17, 2018. STIC jetting clarification: The STIC metering block comes pre-jetted to cover a full spectrum of applications from 125cc to 500cc. Yes, it is true the same main jet of 190 with a 48 pilot works on all of the applications; noticing this jetting is primarily designed for hot trial and motocross. This jetting applies to hot modified engines as well as stock; on average it will add five [5] hp to a stock engine. When the carburetors are bored to a larger size, it will make even more horsepower. There is no need to run a 36mm any longer as the 38 Keihin A/S will perform flawlessly. Contact me at this email STIC @ frontier .com [no spaces], and I will provide you with dyno reports that cover the entire spectrum. On applications [tracks, trails] requiring low-speed finesse such as Tokyo’s application; yes, it can be toned down to smaller passages. The STIC process is entirely new and cannot be compared to anything in the industry. Correctly jetted it has wicked acceleration and over-rev. Contact Inventor George

      Plenty of people have gone Mikuni-> Lectron-> Keihin. Although I’ve never owned a Lectron I have ridden a friend’s bike fitted with one. I wasn’t that impressed with the bottom end. He’s thinking about fitting a Keihin now. Regarding the STIC, I haven’t finished tuning the settings yet (waiting for a smaller needle jet tube). I’ll make an update video when it’s dialed in and running well.

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I should add that I'm still very pleased with the Keihin 38mm PWK Air Striker short with JD jetting kit. It runs great, with improved bottom end compared to the Mikuni and is far less sensitive to temperature and elevation changes. The STIK promises more power over the stock Keihin block so I'm keen to get it dialed in and test it.

      Why full synthetic oil in a 2 stroke ? When I rebuild my topend years ago I applied Motul 710 on the piston and it drips off like water ( cold piston and cold oil) it don't stick on the piston ! What I must say it was a graffite coated one !

    • @TokyoOffroad
      @TokyoOffroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like synthetic 2-stroke premix oil because it mixes with gasoline easily, is stable over time, minimal smoking and carbon deposits and typically has higher film strength than mineral oil (lubricates better).

      Ummm... there are literally thousands of trail riders in the US running Amsoil Sabre at 80:1 or even 100:1. Including Jeff Slavens. Reasons being: longer time between rebuilds. You’re getting great piston/ring wear and very minimal carbon in the engine and especially the power valves.

      medaloko333 - 60:1 (i.e. 60L Gasoline: 1L Cross Power 2T Oil) is the premix ratio recommended by KTM. It’s listed in the manual.

    • @medaloko333
      @medaloko333 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tokyo Offroad in the manual of my motorcycle (husky 300 2016) also indicates me proportion 60: 1, recommended brand "belray". I have always used motorex crossPower but it turns out that if it was done in that 60: 1 ratio, I would grease the spark plugs too much, and could fail. As the MOTOREX manufacturer recommends using it at 1%, I do it but adding a little more 1'1 1'2% and the results were much better, I do not miss any more spark plugs and when I open the engine you can see that everything is perfect . That's why I was surprised that you did not give any problem,

      Thanks for the positive feedback regarding the channel. I've run my 2017 KTM 250EXC at 60:1 for over 180H now and haven't fouled a plug due to the oil ratio. I have fouled plugs when dialing in the carb jetting though (when the setting is too rich). When I overhauled the top end at 140H the piston top and power valve were relatively clean. As such I don't see an issue in running 60:1.
