I found this video to be extremely helpful. My bladder cancer was T1 high grade noninvasive. The mast was removed from my bladder. I then started BCG treatments for 6 weeks. Then a cystocopy to check bladder. Then another 6 weeks of BCG treatments. I am now in year 3 of treatment. I have been cancer free for the past two years. I will have another cystocopy at the end of July. In December I will have the last 3 BCG treatments. It has been a long journey but I am so glad that they caught my bladder cancer early. Good luck everyone!!
Pray you are doing well. Had my 5th today. Little discouraged to hear you've been in treatments so long. Thought I was clear after 5 years of re-ck. Found it again.
Mine was found during changing of kidney stents. Had TURBT surgery to remove it, then three months of chemo. Now, next week, I am having my bladder removed and will have a bag for the rest of my life.
i have learned more about my issues by watching this presentation than i ever did by reading material or face to face talks with urologists . thanks for making things clearer for me.
Have T2 muscle invasive bladder cancer and weighing options. This was the best, video I have found. Things were explained so well and clear! Thanks so much!!
thank you to the two doctors for sparing their valuable time - excellent information - my mother(81 yrs) is currently diagnosed (1 1/2 months ago) with urothelial muscle invasive bladder cancer, undergone TURBT and slated for partial cystectomy next week ..... hope it works for her!
Much appreciated. You prepared me for my meeting with the surgeon tomorrow. I know have questions I can ask as well as an understanding of the entire process and options. Great Video.
I got all the way from x-ray to CAT Scan with no detection. The cystoscope procedure in my doctor’s office went well until the irritation. Then, I saw the 2 primary tumors (which proved to be (TA or T1) high grade). I attribute my current status to the early detection through microscopic blood in a routine physical and the follow up by my doctors. As a result of the early detection, my cancer had not penetrated into the second level. My doctor who, followed the steps indicated here (chemo to BCG), has been very reassuring. I am now into the every 6-month step in the BCG process. BCG does irritate my bladder, but after a year and a half following surgeries to remove the tumors and surrounding material (for safety). I am thankful for the early referral from my doctor to the specialist.
Sounds like my recent experience - I'd consider myself a T1 - they say no need to see an Oncologist, but should I still consider Chemo? I will ask my Primary today when I get my physical. Thanks!!! Wishing you the best of good luck - we are very, very lucky not to have the bladder wall penetrated.
@@dennishassler605 When my cancerous tumors (2) were removed, plus surrounding tissue scraped out, my doctors did put a little chemo concoction in my bladder; however, my primary doctor said it was probably not essential, saying further, “chemo has not proven to be as effective as immunotherapy. I confess I do not know anything more than that. In general, if the cancer has not penetrated beyond the first two law\yers of the 4 layers of bladder wall, then removal of the cancer plus immunotherapy should keep th e cancer from returning in most cases (overwhelmingly). Best always, Keith Whitney
P.S. After a few months from my last immunotherapy treatment, I have normal bladder control, something I had not had for at least a year or more before the discovery of the bladder cancer. I was nervous for the first few months following the “all clear” and end of immunotherapy. Now, approximately 6 months after immunotherapy and my doctor’s statement “your bladder has been so clear for this whole period of immunotherapy (from surgery between 3 and 4 years) that I do not believe your bladder cancer will return.” He checks every 6 months for a year or two, then perhaps every year. (I actually am a little confused as to whether he checks every 6 months for the rest of my life or every 1 year.) Your doctor will likely say something else similar to mine, “If anything comes back, we will get it out immediately! Don’t worry.”
@@keithwhitney7491 Thanks. I also spoke to an Oncologist and he'll review my data - I'm NOT expecting any problems with the BCG treatments, but it's wise to check all the options and get informed going through the process. Some experts claim it's best to have an Oncologist involved for a better outcome, BUT it's probably not essential if you tolerate treatments well. My sister is also looking over my shoulder and she's a ranking RN with one of the very best treatment centers in the country, too.

This video is informative but based on what Dr. Soloway is saying I would not have him as my doctor he seems so rote in his practice. Some of these doctors are in such a hurry to cut out body parts and they drive fear into patients. Of course with such a life threatening disease who stops to think. From what I understand BCG should be the first line of treatment and it does not affect the rest of your body. The bladder is an isolated organ. I had the same diagnosis as you John and went through BCG treatments. I stay away from all forms of sugar. I would advice you to educate yourself on bladder cancer. If you have an open mind, I also suggest you look at "The Truth About Cancer." Do your research and try not to let fear get in the way. Tell your body you are the warrior and nothing is allowed to invade your body. Also doctors are not educated on nutrition which also a factor. Did you know that the lack of Vitamin D can also set the conditions for bladder cancer? Most medical doctors will poo-poo alternative and nutritional therapy. Did you know that Frankincense is used in the Mediterranean for bladder cancer and they have had a great success rate? Also the lowest cancer rate is actually in the Mediterranean?
I am from Guadalajara Mexico... this is a very helpful video about bladder cancer. I am 39 years old and I was diagnosed bladder cancer T1 low grade. The doctor did a RTU and i have to check my bladder in three moths and then 6 months... thank you very much for this video. It,s been very helpful por me.
At 16:35 Dr Soloway discusses inserting chemotherapy agent into the bladder right after TURBT for low grade non-invasive tumor. How does he know so quickly from pathologist if it is low grade? Do all facilities have path reports so soon? In my own recent TURBT I was out and gone home by then. What is the chemo agent he is referring to?
The urologist inject it into your bladder a day after you have undergone TURBT not waiting for the histopathogy report of the tumour removed. He just do it to kill the floating cells, if they may have left in the bladder during the resection process.. mitomycin inj is used..
After the TURBT a Chemotherapy rinse is always used Mitomycin 2 I think is standard to stop any Cancer cell seeding. Then you receive the pathology report. Mine was HG Non Invasive Interstitial Papillary Carcinoma. Still going for a 2nd opinion. Then a Meeting with the Oncologist. Besides BAC. There's another Chemotherapy with Intervestial Gamebine for 90 minutes the Docecyline 90 minutes. Supposed to be a bit more effect than BAC with less side effects. All new to me but trying to become as well informed as possible
This is a great video, I just had 12 tumors removed from my bladder in 1 surgery. fortunately for me the tumors did not invade the bladder muscle.
