    You don't know how much I love your D&D comparisons in this video. While I know that some players might not quite get it, especially those who come from a more MMO-oriented gaming background, as an 8 year tabletop player and GM, you put things in a way that I knew what to expect before even buying the game.

    I’m late to getting into this game but I’m extremely excited after having gotten it and can’t wait to play. These videos you’ve made are awesome and I feel a bit less anxious about getting back into micromanagement games after so long after having reviewed your guides! Bless.

    Arbalests are completly OP in this game, as they hit for so much dmg (and reload can be nicely worked around with the Chanter song to reduce reload and shoot faster, pretty much the only chant you ever need ; in addition with summoning Phantoms).
    And Plate Armor for everyone !
    theres simply no real use to any other armor, as the -50% recovery speed isnt really that critical as it first sounds, its really not big at all, while the massiv damage reduction will at least keep your team alive.
    If you dont have Full Plate armor on your spellcasters, they get sniped like giant targets, absolutly critical to put spellcasters in big armor ; which is incredible counter intuitive at first ; but if they dont have armor, you will need a stupid amount of micro management to keep a spellcaster outside of range and not getting aggro ; especially teleporting enemies like Shades will wreck your Spellcasters without armor, and it really does not help that lots of spells have a very low range, and you really dont want to hit your own group, which further limits the ability to be usefull.
    In the end, Cleric is incredible usefull with the really strong level 1 spells , in extra dmg reduction and extra accuracy. Nicely combines with the aura per encounter spell, which you really should get to use the burn damage and extra accuracy it grants , it literally kills all the "small" enemies and undead incredible efficient (2 priests just obliterate big armys of undead with little to no effort).
    Nearly all the Priest level 1 spells are super strong. Simply give your priest an Arbalest, and they will snipe everything dead with big range and work just easy and fire-and-forget (and deal enough big damage that any dmg reduction of opponents will not matter much, while other classes simply cant deal dmg at all).
    Simply use a fighter as a big tank, a paladin to support in tanking (quick heal each encounter, extra dmg reduction aura, and the priest dmg reduction, combines very well, with full plate, you have so much dmg reduction that only super huge dmg hits at all).
    Paladin with 2h sword (Estok is great and you find good Great swords aswell) deals gigantic damage with the extra bonus in fire dmg, you really dont need any other offensive skills, simply focus on defence, as you can so easily wreck any opponent with tripple Arbalests in your back, just need to tank the opponents for the time (means use the knowdown, use all the "per encounter" stuff all the time, they are "free").
    Paladin also gets the super usefull ability to remove bad status effects on your teammates, especially charm/dominate that is, which is super usefull to not get wrecked by the mushrooms in big numbers (as they totally can charm 3 or more of your team, which is really annoying, or deadly).
    All that said, the games rules are totally fine, but in the end damage reduction is way too strong as a defensive measure, simply because weapons dont really get much stronger, while your dmg reduction increases so much, that you can allmost negate all of it (you get very tiny dmg still).
    In the story if you dont want to use self-made heroes, you get Priest, Fighter, Chanter quite early.
    Second Priest and Paladin certainly help a lot.
    Lots of the other classes are kinda "gimicky" fun but seem to lack defence and will die unless you micro a lot (which also abuses some of the stupid enemies, as you will die allmost instantly if some enemies focus fire a non-tank, you just get way too much damage without big damage reduction on you).

    many years later - it turns out that might is SECONDARY as a DPS attribute - especially for the rogue; dexterity is the main one, perception goes second, might goes last; might is best for damage casters (including priest) and barbarians; oh, and this video was BEFORE perception was turned into an offensive stat (that gives accuracy)

    I learned more in 31 minutes from watching this video than I did in 9 hours of playing the game. I really wish there was more of a "tutorial" in the game which explains progression and stats because it's not easy to figure out. That said, your video is well thought out with one exception. For total "beginner's" there's a lot you say that's not immediately understandable. Someone with no knowledge of D&D mechanics (of any edition) will be lost, and even with my experience, there's a lot that I'm still lost on. Hoping future videos provide more detailed explanation. The game is a lot of fun, but it isn't at all intuitive for newcomers.

      The character creation guide should be apart from the Attributes section which was changed. Some abilities have also had stat changes etc.
      The gameplay and combat guide is also a good introduction about how to play the game, particularly if you're not familiar with this type of game - eg haven't played the Infinity Engine games before.

  • @wahbuddy

    How does the dialogue work? Do they talk to only the character you are controlling, or do they talk to them all? I am wondering how it makes those dispositions matter for all characters.

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's 95% the same as the Infinity Engine games, but yes your PC's attributes and skills are checked in dialogue and not the companions, though they can interject. I will showcase it in my next video, which might be ready in about a day's time.

    Enverxis Two more questions:
    1) Which weapon is better - Blunderbuss or Arquebuss? I've made some calculations and it seems that Blunderbuss is better until target has DR 10 or 15 if we take penetrating shot. But they don't include lower accuracy\faster reload on blunderbuss
    i.imgur.com/y2DlQer.jpg
    2) What combination of two tanks would you use? I'm thinking between Warrior+Chanter and Paladin+Chanter.

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Myrten Arquebus is better against heavy armor. Blunderbuss is better against Light armor. Blunderbuss gets more benefit from Penetrating Shot because it fires quicker.
      To be honest it doesn't matter. Paladin and Chanter tanking with a light armored Fighter roving around would be my personal pick but if you're not super good at positioning, the Fighter's Defender ability and Hold the Line talent can aggro many enemies to him.

    • @myrten3124
      @myrten3124 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enverxis OK thanks, my understanding of this game is getting better and better ;)
      So I'm thinking about a party like this one:
      Warrior - Tank
      Chanter - Tank + always use his awesome chant 'Sure-Handed Ila Nocked Her Arrows with Speed' which doubles reload speed
      Priest of Magran - healer\ ranged dps with +10 bonus to arquebus accuracy ;)
      Rogue - close range dps with blunderbuss
      Cipher(main char) - ranged dps/cc - either arquebus or blunderbuss - some people are suggesting blunderbuss as it could generate more focus with +2/hit talent but I'm not sure if its worth a talent.
      Wizard or Druid - depending on day one patch balance ;)
      How do you find this party? Any suggestions?
      Unfortunately I think I'd have to resort to adventurers as companion stats are very underwhelming :/

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Myrten That party should be good on any difficulty, except it might be a bit hard on Path of the Damned (or well, you'll be resting a lot).
      There is a mod coming (Developed by Bester, UI design by Karkarov, Game Design / UI feature design by me) that will allow you to edit their stats IN GAME. How cool is that.

    • @myrten3124
      @myrten3124 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enverxis I'm not that crazy to go with Path of the Dammed for the first run, but I'm thinking about hard - more enemies should mean more loot :>
      Just curious - what would be your party for Path of the Dammed?
      Great idea with a mod - options to change their talents\picked abilities would also be nice ;)

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Myrten I have never played Path of the Damned. I've been testing on Hard to provide balance and system feedback because Hard doesn't have scaled creature stats. There are other backers on the Obsidian Forums that would better answer that question - Sock, aeonsim and mutonizer have all played a lot of PotD, as has LizardWizard on the RPGCodex.

    Awesome guide. What is your recommendation when it comes to rogue? From my understanding, I should focus on might and dex? Should I look at perception or not?

  • @TimmacTR
    @TimmacTR 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sensuki what's the ideal stats for a role-playing, dialog and interaction oriented character? Also, if you have several characters who are good in different things can you use them for dialog or you are stuck with your main character?

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Only the main character's stats and skills are used in dialogue and interstitials. Every character can partake in most of the scripted interactions. As I stated in the video - Might, Dexterity and Constitution are used more often in Scripted Interactions. Perception, Intellect and Resolve (and the Lore skill) are used more often in dialogue.

    • @TimmacTR
      @TimmacTR 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok thanks basically better pump per. int. and res. in main char and then keep acceptable mig. dex. and dex. in other chars too.

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TimmacTR Oddly enough if you want to be good at dialogue - make a tank Fighter, Paladin or Chanter with high Per, Int and Res - and you should have a good character instead of just a dialogue character.

    • @ybhandari
      @ybhandari 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enverxis Let's say I want to make a dialogue-oriented Rogue. Is there a reasonable build to be made with, say, high Perception and Intelligence?

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ybhandari Yeah you could make that work. Just make sure you use faster weapons and use active abilities in combat.

  • @TimmacTR
    @TimmacTR 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Another quick question: what do you think about the best difficulty level for playing hardcore in first runthrough? Is path of the damned the dream "hardcore" mode or is it just self-torturing?
    Planning to do an ironman path of the damned first runthrough....and die after 2 hours of playing.. xD But at least try you know, you only get the chance to pay a game for the first time one time.. xD

    • @WnIyLkLvIiAsMt97
      @WnIyLkLvIiAsMt97 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      TimmacTR I know I'm 2 years late, but Hard is the "right" option.
      PotD assumes that you're min-mazxing and playing close to optimally.
      Hard is very fair, even if you're using your own builds, and not playing optimally. (My first playthrough was Trials of Iron on the Hard difficulty.)

    Is the game capped at 30 FPS because of the frame thing? And what happens when the game drops beneath 30 FPS? What about the two additional speed modes?

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The game's frame rate is not capped. The speed of animations is 30 FPS. Usually I get 60-150 FPS in the game on my computer. It just means that a 30 frame animation takes 1 second to complete in game.

  • @Kalidascorp

    I'm pretty sure Rangers have changed. Their animal companions don't share stamina or health with the ranger anymore, and in fact they don't have health either. They can die over and over again with no negative side effects (as far as I can tell).

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's correct they no longer share health and endurance (and you will note I did not state that in the video). They are still linked though, so if the Animal Companion goes down the Ranger gets -20 to Accuracy among other things. The implementation is still exploitable and fog of war is also buggy, yes. Hopefully they fix it.

    Is the host reading some kind of documentation or its just his own notes? Nonetheless, I've checked a few different tutorials and playthrough/letsplay of this game. This seems to be the best one. When I'm new to a game, I have no reason to watch a playthrough of people who don't know anything about the game or know less than me. So far, I haven't really seen any that have a comprehensive understanding of the game other than this one.

      Fimontronia My own notes, I participated in the beta for over 6 months.

    • @Fimontronia
      @Fimontronia 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enverxis OK. I been watching some of the vids. What about making a cleric/priest moon-bender? Priests have endurance heal, but I didn't see much information on healing health. But any character can get an ability to heal themself or another ability that lets them heal an ally. I'm mostly confused about magic weapons. Is there a benefit for casters? Or a penalty if casters use other weapon type? Like I noticed Durance uses a staff which is counted as a normal melee weapon. Can they wear any armor? I noticed you mentioned it's not a good idea, but I don't really get why. I don't really get much how the armor works. Like my character is a rogue. Simple leather armor decreases his recovery speed by about a third. That's too much, and it isn't even heavy armor. It's almost not worth putting on the leather which is supposed to be standard for rogue classes in every system.

      Fimontronia I haven't played the game for a while (I actually ended up not liking it) but from memory there are two talents that heal health, but they're not worth picking unless you have a high Might, and even then - you can just rest anyway. Magic weapons are good. There's no weapon proficiencies so any character can use any weapon. When I played I usually equipped Durance with an Arquebus or an Arbalest. I don't like the armor system and it results in tank characters wearing the heaviest armor and everyone else wearing nothing, or Exceptional Robes, at best. There are a lot of unintuitive systems in this game.

    • @Fimontronia
      @Fimontronia 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I restarted, and rebuilt my character, I found out his armor was limiting his action speed. My rogue has to wear padded instead of leather which I don't like at all. But leather makes him less effective so I have to wear padded or nothing. Which makes no sense for a rogue class. This one problem breaks the game, and also is the exact thing that sort of made me not want to play. I'm still playing through it though.
      I found out that wizards get aoe bonus from using magical weapons. So the magic weapons are weak for other class, but good for wizards.

      I've been focusing on making my guide rather than playing the game but yeah they did do another balance pass, but not for the press build - it's in the Day 1 patch. I think they buffed the Wizard self-buffs, nerfed some of the Druid spells and buffed the Cipher.

      One more question: Would you go with ranged or melee Rogue? Same question for the Priest

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Myrten Well since the Weapon Focus talents are grouped, you can switch between them. The Ruffian Group is good for a Rogue because it has the Blunderbuss, Stiletto and Sabre, for instance.
      Priests kinda need to be close to the party, so a reach weapon or ranged works.

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on your build. There is a gimmick build at the moment where if you pick a Fire Godlike Monk with certain abilities and talents that enemies will kill themselves attacking you, and Constitution is awesome for that build. Personally I prefer Might, Dexterity and Intellect and to rove around kicking people with Force of Anguish, it's hilarious.

    • @Enverxis

      You can't create your entire party at the beginning. When you get to the first town you can hire adventurers from the Inn (and you can make a full party of adventurers).
      There are 8 companions to find throughout the game (There's a Fighter, Wizard, Priest, Chanter, Paladin, Cipher, Ranger and Druid) and you can make up to 8 Adventurers as well. When they are not in your party they will be at the Inn, or at the Stronghold when you gain control of that.

    I may get some hate for this but I got this game wanting to love it, especially after the disappointing DAI and the lack of any kind of real depth in so called RPG's today.
    The reason I dont love this game, isnt the story or the graphics or even the choose your own adventure sections (which i actually really like cause I loved the books as a kid). The reason I dont like this game is two things that seriously take away from the immersion and just go against basic common sense.
    1. The way exp is handled. You get exp for exploring and finding all the areas available, along with small things like opening chest etc. Now I dont mind getting exp for those things, what i mind is NOT getting exp for fighting. Theoretically you could avoid all the fights in the game and still lvl up and advance. Which to me makes no sense and makes fighting pointless.
    2. The way health/magic/skills are handled. I dont care for this stamina is actually health in a fight, but health is health and you can get down to 0 health(stamina) but still not die cause you still have health...?? idk. I think it just makes something extremely simple and worked into something thats more complex not because its better but just for the sake of trying to be more complex. I also dont care for the way spells/skills are handled. Where your only allowed to use skills and especially spells a limited amount of times per day. As a person who like mage classes in rpg's, I felt gimped. My first couple characters i made were mage classes and I would use a spell or two in a fight just to find out I couldnt use any spells after that and be stuck fighting melee till I came upon a rest area. Basically taking away the only positives of being a mage class to begin with and being stuck melee fighting with a class that has no business in melee combat.
    I dont know, maybe im getting picky in my old age, but I havent had a decent rpg in so long Im starting to think developers have forgotten how to make one. Or they are too wrapped up in making things "streamlined", easy and taking as little thought as possible to understand so more people can play it, or they are trying to take things that work and should be left alone and make them into some horrid mess in order to say they are "innovating".
    Idk, Give me a story like Dragon Age:Origins, combat like DA 2/3 (I liked the faster pace myself) or maybe Dragons Dogma, the meaningful choices of Pillars or DAO, the progressions system of Everquest (The first Everquest where you actually had to gain skill in things like 1-handed weapons, defense, spell casting etc. That actually made sense, rather than just picking up a sword and being a master swordsman even though you never touched one before.), maybe some rts elements thrown in (where you take control of a keep/castle and build up an army during your rpg gameplay, and control army vs army combat like a traditional rts.), a character creation like Skyrim or APB: reloaded or Dragon's Dogma, and maybe a class system like Kingdom of Amalur or something with alot of where you cant get all of them. I like games that make you pick and choose abilities to your gameplay style rather than playing pokemon and feeling like gotta get em all...lol. Something like that would be great for me.

      No I didn't. I made this video during the Press build before the game's release and didn't play past the prologue during making these videos. The portraits are way too limited. They should at least put 1 portrait in the selection for each male/female race and class combination. Yes thats a lot, but cmon, its annoying if you cant find a portrait for your hero you made, thats not cool.
    Another option would be to use a "screenshot" of the characters ingame face and use that as a Portrait as a fallback (Wasteland 2 did that, worked fairly well as a last resort option).
    Best ofcourse is to use custom portraits that fit exactly what you want, but hey, they really should provide enough Portraits to make everyone happy (at least 1 for each race, class, gender combination).

    • @HahnFaust
      @HahnFaust 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ThisNameIsBanned Dragon Age: Origins has the best way I've seen thus far. They just take your character's bust and use that to create the portrait. You'd think that concept would carry over to developers for games like this. I know they were going for that nostalgic feel from the old Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc. games, but they could have innovated a bit more on many things. Have you checked out Divinity: Original Sin? They did a fantastic job at trying to bring new concepts to gameplay, and tactics to combat.

    • @ThisNameIsBanned
      @ThisNameIsBanned 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marc Foust Yes Divinity had a really cool interaction with the elements and the environment, freezing water, elektrolyze water, vaporize water with fire, was really cool and i enjoyed the game, especially the first map is rich and colorfull. Some pyramid teleport puzzles are cool and the option to steal basicly everything was nice (but sadly a way too easy option to earn money).
      The "combo" idea in combat was cool too, especially as it was a real turn based game and optimisation of the characters was something i spend hours in. What i like most are the talents that truly change some aspects of the game (like zombie, bleeder, it should really turn you into an undead, for flavour and change dialoge and such).
      Divinity was great for its fresh ideas, i just disliked that it had such less focus on actual dialoge, not that it didnt have dialoge, but overall it missed out in that department.
      In the end i am very happy that they put out more RPG games with these really good ones, but like in the past, every game has some aspects they did really good, while others are weak.
      In the upcomming Tides of Numenera i expect a weak combat system, but a very rich dialoge and story driven experience.
      Maybe i am wrong and combat will be a blast aswell, i really dont know, i just expect that.

    I'm liking your videos, but you might want to try doing them without reading off of a sheet. Use bullet points to remind you of what to talk about, but don't write out a script. That will cut down on you stumbling over your words and having to go back and repeat yourself to stay on track with the script.

    • @Enverxis
      @Enverxis  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually use bullet points and for some bits of the video I do, but there are so many systems and sub-systems in the game that if I do that I may forget to talk about something, so it's safer for me to write it down just for these videos, even if it means I stammer a little bit.
      I'm also doing it on the same screen, if I had two screens it would be a bit easier.

      Contains no editing (don't have any software, never used any before). Rangers are still really good, all I said was that they haven't really turned out how the developers wanted them to - and they've been riddled with problems throughout the beta. They're still kinda buggy too. MOBA and MMO terms are to try and make things easier to understand for people who haven't played many RPGs of this type before.
