  • Members of the RSCDS Vancouver Demonstration Team dance Postie's Jig twice through at the Ceilidh February 4, 2011. Music by the house band - Calanais. Immediately afterwards, 150+ dancers took to the floor to dance Postie's in their own style.

We dance this at the speed of light in Texas. You will have a full cardio workout by the time the song has ended.

@FBDBmusic Hello. Hopefully as an RSCDS Branch Demonstration Team we should be able to get it right. Actually (and I danced as part of the team that night) it was fun to do.

Quite so but I've found several variations of the dance. Your one sems to be the clearest to follow. We have a set which would work really well with it. I'll try to post it on our channel at some stage. Our fiddler worked in BC a few years ago and both he and his wife joined in with the Scottish fiddle group. He also played pipes in the Vancouver City police pipe band. The best I can manage is bass!!

In 1923 Miss Jean Milligan co-founded The Scottish Country Dance Society. She did not love the wild ways of the "untrained" village hall dancers. If she watched several versions of a particular reel, she would decide on a standard *correct style*. Beginning with footwear (dance-pumps, please) she tackled "position", having decided it should be based on classical ballet, eliminating traditional forms.

Well done team! I was looking for a video so that I could sort out the steps of Postie's Jig for our band (I don't do the RSCD society shorthand!) and yours is definitely the clearest. If you ever need a band in Vancouver....!

Sorry, but I disagree. It is Scottish, as Scottish as if danced in Ceilidh style or in a reeling style. It is not English nor French, it is in fact Royal Scottish Country Dance Society style. You may critique the execution of the dancers, you may not care for this style, you have even voiced an opinion that it is not Scottish, but that is an opinion, not fact.

Not that wild as it should really be! No Scottish swinging, slow pace - it's more English or French, but not Scottish.
