    It should be mentioned that at the time Colombia was in its largest ever civil war, between (surprise, surprise) conservatives and liberals, and in hopes to gain US support, each party competed on who would give Americans the most benefits from the canal. But meanwhile Panamanians were tired of being an abandoned province and as a Colombian, I gotta say they made the right move. They had a jumpy 20th century, but not as jumpy as ours, and are faring relatively better nowadays.

    Something important to point out is that the US compensated Colombia 25 Million Dollars for the lose of Panama, in 1926. That money was used to industrialize the country, double the total amount of railroads in 7 seven years, and triplicate exports. Yes, the USA was an asshole to Colombia, but that was realpolitik, but at least they payed back Colombia for what they lost, and they have helped us in our internal conflict and will help us in post conflict, and we are great allies.

    • @aname5909

      No Brony Ever Tienes razón, tú tienes tu opinión, yo tengo mi opinion.

    The Scottish had the idea to build a canal way before all this, but when they got there they realised it was too hard. By this point they'd already sent loads of money, and their population, to Panama. The loss of this money and populace bankrupted the nation, causing it to seek further union with the rest of Britain and being a major driving force for the Act of Union

Only that the riots of January the 9th was in 1964 not 1963 and that we are called "Panamanians" not "Panamonians". to this day, we are influenced a lot by the US. Hat21 they did get their objectives.
      At the end of the war when the US was dominating a peace treaty was ensured and this removed the blockade set up around USA by british navy which destroyed us shipping. The US went to war to end the blockade and adter the treaty they got it in the end. The US just didn't also get Canada as well. The United Kingdom got to keep their territory there.

    • @joshuachandler1750
      @joshuachandler1750 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      The blockade was only there because of the war, of course the peace treaty would end it.
      The USA filed to push into Canada and the British couldn't push into America, it's hard to say anyone was dominating but it needs to be remembered that the Napoleonic wars where ending and more British forces come into America.
      The UK no longer needed to impress American sailors (again Napoleon being defeated) so that objective is achieved although not because of the war of 1812.
