Solid analysis as always VOR. Syria was a good parallel to see just how fast countries can collapse, the only thing I don’t see happening in Eastern Europe is the potential for long term civil unrest / civil war. They have so many religious factions in the Middle East, where as Eastern Europe isn’t really in that boat.
I think they'd maybe let nato into the western part as part of some deal where Russia get everything else with international recognition. Since the outset many of the senior Russians has hinted that Poland will take the western regions which is basically the same thing.
Question: WOuldn't it be far more effective just to capture Odessa? If they do so they will achieve several favorable long term objectives: 1. Create a land bridge with Transnistria 2. Deprive Ukraine of a seaport and the attendant economic and military advantage of that seaport 3. Gain the military and economic advantage of a seaport for Russia 4. Make Ukraine a landlocked and dependent vassal state. Since they have already fought this far, it might make sense for Russia to just push harder now so they don't have to fight this war ever again. NATO and US have proven they are not trustworthy in peace negotiations, so it behooves them to take more territory now while Ukraine is weak instead of allowing them to redevelop and strike back in 20 years.
The logistics of taking control of all of the Ukraine would be a nightmare for anyone, including Russia. All Russia wants is to defeat the AFU, destroy the prevailing social ideology in Kiev, and depose the current, western-backed government.
Imagine if the Syria situation were to happen here in the United States - the Cartels build a bunch of armored trucks and drones and conduct a lightning raid across the border. Instead of fighting, all the troops in Ft. Bliss etc. just throw down their guns and walk away or join the cartel. Seems insane, doesn’t it? Well what if that Cartel has billions of dollars and bribes all the local generals to stand down or join their side?
Three points: 1. Incongruent analogy with Syria because the Syrian army was ordered to pull back when they had the upper hand. Assad didn't ask for Russian or Iranian help. Something inexplicable was going on there behind the curtains. 2. Russia won't want to take all of Ukraine because that's the anti-Russian Ukrainians live in Western Ukraine. Russia doesn't want another Afghanistan. 3. NATO might decide to send in more conventional forces and in the open if Russia gets close to Kiev. Trump is unpredictable.
WayneGreene: there is a high probability of the Zelensky regime being relocated to Lviv in Western Ukraine (Galacia) nr the Polish border, and Kiev being taken over by the People of Ukraine, unimpeded by the Russian Federation or Belarus.

He won't. The US would lose face if it admits its Ukraine proxy war and economic war against Russia has failed. Trump will continue the war and even ramp it up even more than Biden. It's what the US has always done.

Money !! The Root of all Evil!! J
Or politicians and bureaucrats (CIA NATO)
Nuh, greed is just one of those roots. Money is neutral tool of exchange. Other two are anger and lust, among the main ones.
I look at Hungary being awarded territories taken by Stalin after WW2. Poland awarded western Ukraine in return for withdrawal from NATO.
