Hello. I watched your vlog again. Really nice to see your reactions. Since I am Swedish there are a few things I could clarify for you. The first thing that you have to remember is the population. 10 millions in Sweden and 5 millions in Finland. When you looked at the armies you saw that they were equally large. That means that Finlands army i twice as big as Swedens according to the population. That is because of the winter war with Russia (that borders to Finland). Since southern Finland has been a part of Sweden historically we share a lot of political ideas and consider us to be brothers and sisters. One idea is unitary parliamentary which means that we only have one chamber in our parlament (USA and UK has two for example). We have many political parties and they reflect the result of the public referendum/vote. You are right when you say that it`s the gouverment who pays the parental allowance. In Finland you can stay home and get paid for 320 days and in Sweden you can stay home for 390 days. The allowance is based on your salary (80%). In Sweden there are 90 additional days but the allowance is only 17.5 USD/day. I was surprised when they said that the biggest export in Sweden was cars. It is machinery. The same as Finland. The two countries has the most forestation in Europe (Finland nr 1 and Sweden nr 2) and earlier we exported wood (and steel in Sweden) and now we export machinery (as developed countries go from exporting raw materials to refined goods). When it comes to our salaries the taxation in both our countries is progressive. It means that the more money you earn the higher tax you pay. That gives that most people have about the same salary after tax which gives good equality. That could be one faktor to why we are happy. The nordic countries also have the mindset of ”Jante” which means that we don`t think we are better (or less) than another person. In addition we have high taxes (happiness??). The reason to us being happy to pay taxes is that we can see what the taxes pay. Schools, hospitals, wellfare etc. We are also safe and trust eachother and the gouverment. That is probably the main reason for our happiness.
We call it parental leave in Sweden (maternal AND paternal). Someone wrote here that you’re on ”vacation” during your parental leave. You’re not. The 15 months of parental leave that each family is allowed per child can be used up until the child is 12 years old. And you’re on paid (subsidised by the state) leave from work. You’re not registered as unemployed.
When comparing the army sizes, remember that sweden is double the size in population - and yet the armies are same sized. So technically finnish army is double that of sweden's per capita. Finland has compulsory military service for all men, and finnish artillery is bigger than germany's and france's artillery combined. Check out some military videos from finland :) And hey hey heeeeyyyy easy with the "sweden is better in ice hockey"! :D We will never agree to that! Also Finland was never part of the USSR. But our population is older than sweden's.
The SIZE of the armies don't say much. The ranking utilizes over 60 individual factors to determine a nations power index score. Right now Sweden is nr 29 and Finland nr 50
There is a discussion in Sweden right now whether it should be allowed for companies to bring in labor from, for example, Thailand to pick berries? The reason is precisely that there are terrible working and living conditions for them, they are exploited and many lose money to come. If you can afford to come to Sweden as a tourist, you can pick your own berries, but I would not recommend coming here to work as a berry picker.
Almost. We are right in the middle of a process to increase the threshold of how much money you must be paid to be allowed a work visa in Sweden. And it's a big increase so there will probably be no more foreigners picking berries in Sweden.
Recently watched a documentary about this specific topic here on youtube by german news DW and while they are definitely being exploited in the technical sense of the word (with low salaries and long work days with tough manual labor, at least comparatively by European standards), the pay seems to be enough to make some people come back year after year because it actually enables them to buy things that help improve their lives back in their homeland.
@@hachimaki The thing about berries is that there are good and bad berry years. The pickers are paid per kg of berries, not per hour worked. A picker can thus have a good year when it is possible to make money, and then the next year they have to work themselves to death without earning what it cost them to get there and back. In most cases, the worker must pay for the flight to and from the country. A lot of berries need to be picked just to pay for the trip and the berry season is short
Greate video! i like it!. Here is another intresting fact about Sweden and Finland: We have a lot of islands! Small tiny islands around our coasts and in our lakes! Number of Islands by Country 2024 Sweden 267,570 Norway 239,057 Finland 178,947 Japan 120,729 Canada 52,455 Chile 43,471 United States 18,617 Indonesia 17,508 Australia 8,222 Philippines 7,641
I am a 42 year old swede and i have never felt unsafe and i have never heard a gunshot. I am a truck driver and i travel all around the country but i live an hour outside stockholm.
Sweden and Finland used to be the same country for about 700 years, until Sweden lost 1 of many wars against Russia. Finland was then taken from Sweden and placed under Russian rule. Finland eventually became free and were faced with the choice of what their identity would be. They chose to be Finns, as they were never Swedes (ethnically or culturally) and absolutely not Russians. Finland and Sweden has probably one of the closest relationships between countries today. Sweden has no oil at all, Norway has all of it. Surprised that they only mention cars as the highest export for Sweden, I would think weapons systems would be high up on that list. In Sweden we use the "krona" (meaning Crown). It is our old, traditional, currency and we like to keep it. It lets us have our own economy not be too dependent on how much the Euro is worth. No, you cannot pay with Euros in Sweden. However, Sweden is also basically cash-free, so you will have to pay with card pretty much everywhere.
export of weapons systems isn't even on the top 10 list. Cars and Trucks is #1, refined oil is #2 (yes we don't have oil but we take in raw oil and refine it for export), pharmaceuticals are #3, non electrical machinery are #4, paper is #5, electrical appliances are #6, iron+steel is #7
Never been to Hua Hin. We are currently living in Udon Thani. I have lived in Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai and Bangkok in the past. Hua Hin look like a great place to retire. After our lease is up this September we will move somewhere else but no idea where.
Here in Sweden we have a lot of Thai blueberry pickers too. And every year there is news about how badly they are exploited. It can be the Swedish client that doesn't provide what they need or the Thai agency that promise high payment that the workers never receive. And I guess there are similar problems in Finland too. So based on what I've heard when it doesn't work as intended I can't recommend that as an excuse to come here. But if you want to visit you are very welcome. And everyone are allowed to go out and pick their own blueberries because out right to roam regulations (Allemansrätten) and then you can eat them yourself. And these are not really what is called "blueberries", but actually "bilberries". Much yummier but basically impossible to farm, that's why pickers are out in the forests getting eaten alive by mosquitoes to get to them.
And you’re very rarely a ”stay-at-home-mum” (or dad) in Sweden. Most new parents stay at home for a year after the child is born (usually shared between the two parents). After that the children start day care and the parents work.
Actually, Canada just won back the #1 spot in ice hockey, from Finland, witch is now #2... USA is #4 and Sweden is #6... But as we say in Finland, winning doesnt matter, winning Sweden does.
Canada has been #1 for as long as I've been alive! Whoever made the list you found is clueless. 1. Canada, 2) USA, 3) Sweden, 4) Russia, 5) Finland, 6) Czech Republic. If you google "Active NHL Players Totals by Nationality - Career Stats", you will get a good idea of the real ranking.
@@MaxSujyNorden NHL is not a fair measurement of who is top ranked in the world. NHL is not the only professional league in the world. Elite hockey players get enough in both Sweden and Finland to live a good life here. Than there is Russia KHL as well. There is also a big step to move to another country and leave family and friends behind. USA have never ever been in the top 3 in world ranking BTW. :)
@@johnnorthtribe NHL is, by a very wide margin, the best hockey league in the world. In fact, old NHLer love to go to Elite European league like SEL, KHL, etc, to extend their career and usually put up a lot of points. The 2nd best league in the world is the AHL (American Hockey League). The 3nd best is Swedish Elite League. Players drafted by NHL team from Sweden usually play in SEL for a few years before they are ready for the AHL. 4th best league is KHL. Each league 5th or worse are much inferior. About salary, top players in the SEL make 3-4 times less than the worse players in the NHL. Yes, it's good money, but you seem a bit clueless overall.
That doesn't mean much. Sweden has twice the amount of current NHL players then Finland. And the SEL league is better then any league in Finland. Sweden is factually better at producing good hockey players. But Finland is probably 5th behind Canada, USA, Sweden/Russia.
That is the sweet spot. We are good, but not the best - underdog mentality suits finland. we get so much enjoyment out of beating the other ones.@@MaxSujyNorden
It's understandable. The same with Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia. But Sweden is at that next level where if they beat Canada it's not too much of an upset.
Fun and interesting reaction!👍 . About crimes; The murder rate per capita is 3 times higher in Thailand than in Sweden though. Scandinavia ranks as the safest area in the world according to World Population review. . Denmark is ranked as the 4th safest country in the world. I think Finland was in place 15 and Sweden in place 22. (The United States/USA was in place 129). So we have fallen a bit but Sweden is still a very safe country for the average person. I understand though that there are a lot of safe areas in Thailand too but there are also poor unsafe areas were the crime-rates are high (and also the deadly violence) according to the international reports. . I think one of the reasons for why there’s a lot of attention on Sweden when it comes to gang-crimes is because Scandinavia generally is so safe. Strong welfare states almost always are. . The reason for the increased gang-crimes are usually talked about as a consequence of Swedens very liberal migration laws that we had for 10-20 years, that the other Nordic countries did not have, and that the politics has become a bit more right-wing/neo-liberal which has weakened the welfare system to some extent and increased segregation on the housing-market and within the schoolsystem - which has been bad for integration. (And many people that come from war torn countries also have traumas with them of course and Sweden wasn’t really prepared enough for that). More than 80% of the young men that are involved in gang-crimes are immigrants or kids of immigrants/refugees. . We still have one of the strongest welfare-systems in the world though so society is still stabile, safe and wellfunctioning to a high degree. (Also right-wing-politicians have had to accept that the vast majority of the population wants to have a welfare-society so they cant make all the changes they want to, if they did they wouldn’t get any votes). Only around 0,5 % of Sweden consists of areas were there is a high or quite high level of gang-related crimes. And the shootings are almost exclusively within the gang-environment - meaning gang-members shoot each other. (It is still a big/serious problem of course).. Edit; I just want to add here that if you look at Sweden as a whole, not just the populated areas, its 0,02 % of Sweden that consists of areas that have big or quite big problems with gang-crimes. (0,5% is when you look at the populated/more populated areas.)
World Population Review, just like any other website and stats need to be taken with a grain of salt. Thailand is as safe as my country of birth Canada. I'm sure that the never ending conflict in a few provinces deep south of Thailand skew the data (between Thai and Muslims).
It's a fact tho. I've follow the NHL since the early 90s. Canada, USA, Sweden/Russia, Finland/Czech Republic. That's been the order for a long time. Finland didn't produce that many great NHLer compare to Sweden (even right now). I grow up as a Habs fan, Saku Koivu was the captain, but I have to be honest.
@@MaxSujyNorden finland has little less than half the population than sweden, and finland(5,2% total of nhl) produces over half the amount of nhl players to sweden(10,2% total of nhl), meaning that the actual amount of nhl players coming from finland is more than sweden.
@ You are really trying, but that's not a very convincing argument. And that argument, which is the best you could find, make Finland having more NHLer per capita by literally 0.x%.
@@MaxSujyNorden yes that was what i was saying. Reason why you see less players from finland in NHL is not that Finland is worse in hockey, it is because there are less people. And also Finland is objectively superior to both US and Russia in hockey, Finland has been third most succesfull hockey country since 1996 with 0.534 win percentage compared to US 0.530 win percentage or Russia with 0.466 win percentage, Finland is objectively by statistics third greatest hockey country.
@@akinav Your arguments aren't really convincing. I can bring up statistics too. There are 66000 hockey players in Finland vs 62000 in Sweden. It doesn't mean anything same as the stats you brought up. Finland has always been #5 behind Canada, USA, Sweden and Russia.
Well, I dont know if you are right but Suji cant come to Finland to pick blueberries now. This is because, as of 2.2.2024, foreign ministry of Finland had instructed Finnish embassy in Bankok to stop granting visums to Thai berry pickers, because of the risk of human trafficing, ongoing police investigation about human trafficing and bribery, and possible changes to the legal status of berry pickers.
Same goes for Sweden 🇸🇪 i think we hade the same problem with Thai people get exployted picking berrys for low money and living under bad conditions when they are her.
@@mr.sts.p Finnish goverment is saying that it is much better in Sweden and copying or adopting the Swedish law will fix it for Finland... ... But yeah, I think they are full of shit and Sweden is just one investigative journalism expose behind Finland. The Finnish company currently in trial, was also operating in Sweden.
They are definitly exploating some people from abroad for picking berries and mushrooms and stuff like that. It wouldn't even cover your rent. And the reason why we're always so high on the "happiest countries in the world" is not because we are more happier. It's more to do with that we appreciate what we have and try to enjoy the little things in life.
7 EU countries plus UK haven't adopted the euro. Denmark got an exception, some are not ready, UK and Sweden didn't feel like doing it. 😊 Meanwhile, non EU member Montenegro has the euro (I guess Kosovo too?). 😅
Sweden is still very safe. But this thing depends on how you look at it. Sure, Sweden has been hit hard by gang violence. Some innocent people have been caught in between. Or several bombs going on a week in apartment areas - but Sweden is a big place. And it doesn't affect the population on the large scale (or maybe im just oblivious because I live outside the city lol). And thankfully it has gotten much calmer now the past year or so. There are however certain areas in the major cities that I wouldn't recommend tourists going to. You would probably be fine, but it's not without risk and it helps if you can blend in xD
no you are quite correct, there are no gang violence as such but an ongoing gang war so the violence is on gang vs gang with some innocent people as collateral damage. One issue is that people talk about this as being gang violence which sounds like gangs being at war with society like in some 70:ies US movie.
We have actually similar signs in Finland. We have small scale gang grime like stabbings and shootings here and there. Somewhat problem with street robbings amongst young population but that effects mostly Helsinki area and sorrounding citys and in really small scale in other bigger countries. And gang grime is targeted to other gangs. It does not effect most of populations life but its still there. Sad thing is that sings shows us that its same type of gang rising what Sweden had and somehow we really dont have an answer how to stop it. Mostly immigrants fighting other immigrants mostly arabic and african. Sadly roadman lifestyle has started this roadman fashion where young guys dress and act like roadmen. Beat eatchother and stuff. Like young ones. 10yolds and even younger. Thats really sad. They even speak like arab roadmen. :D But reality is that there is change that gang evolve to samekind of activity what sweden has. Hopefully we find a way to stop it and hope fully save couple of lifes by doing that.
Hey you guys, it's not blueberries you want it's chantarerellels, my wife picked 200 kilos last fall. Euro or SEK? I have plastict cards, we don't use money. Kabp khun to you
Hey guys. About the berry-picking, it's a gamble. Some years we have really good berry seasons and some are really bad. Some Thai and Filipinos have gotten stuck without enough money to return home, in the end the Swedish government paid for it, but don't count on it.
That military comparison is quite misleading. Finland has one of the biggest reservist forces in all of Europe and largest artillery. Our whole society is built around being prepared for a Russian invasion. So yes, we really are serious about war. Our numbers are bigger due to conscription, where as Sweden's navy for example is a bit more high tech. Both Finland and Sweden are now members of NATO, so we are strong allies and complement each other really well against the serious Russian threat. Check this out: th-cam.com/video/Nn7ojLa8WvE/w-d-xo.html
Sweden opted out of the euro. Preferred to keep its own currency. But, it's also a mostly cashless society. So for travelling it makes little difference. You don't really need to bother with currency exchange when in Sweden. A lot of places don't even accept cash in any currency as payment. It's all swipe your card or pay by phone.
Thanks for your interest and spirited vibes! I'm Finnish but have also lived in many different countries including 11 yrs in Sweden. Regarding typical meals, I think FI salmon soup is heads over SE meatballs, but Thai kitchen and fastfoods beat both! Welcome to experience winter wonderlands and saunas (with 80 degrees C) here!

@@MaxSujyNorden Of course, Swedens population is double the population of Finland. But for example in junior world chanpionships Finland has done much better than Sweden. You can produce good players by masses, but to produce good teams you need the culture and identity.
Junior hockey was not part of the debate. And when it come to junior, many players from strong nations are already NHLer by the time they are 19 so they don't play in the tournament. Your argument is also flawed by the fact that Finland winning in 2022 was there first Olympics gold. Underdogs are bound to win once in a while, it's purely mathematic.
I am from Finland. That is income after taxes from salary. From that salary we bay A LOT of other taxes for example when buying food, casoline, electricity etc. After those the tax rate is like 50% or even more.
@@MaxSujyNorden Well, not convinced how efficiently the gov is using tax money. By the way, an additional 25% is taken at 1st from the salary. That is taken into common retirement fund. Unfortunately, if I die before retirement, which would be sad as such, but my kids would not either get a dime from the money I paid into the retirement fund. In that case I end up having higher than 75% tax rate (actually in my case more than 80%). So, in practise, in case of death before retirement, people here are almost slaves.
Sweden doesn't have Euro. I mean the big companies, like grocery stores, Mc donald's and stuff like that take euros as a payment, but it's not in our value, it's the Swedish Krona that is the value we use. Which is good, everyone who has euro has been more expensive and they don't really like it but it's easy to use it. About taxes we pay like 35%, but if you earn over 48 000 or something like that you pay 50% tax of the money that is over that amount. So if you earn 55000 you pay 50% of the 7000 between 48000-55000 in tax, plus 35% of the rest.
The cross symbolizes Christianity yes. All the Scandinavian countries are Christian culturally (all other religions were forbidden until the 1950s). Groups of Jews and a few Catholics were allowed under certain restrictions (they could not convert other people except their children for an example). Most people have a thing called A-kassa which pays you in between jobs, it's through the unions. Unions are traditionally very strong in Sweden. We have bear and wolves in Sweden too (and deer and reindeer etc) but the Elk is the king of the forest. We pay a lot of taxes yes, but we also get a lot in return :) cost of living is also much cheaper than in the US for an example (rent is one example).
The high unemployment in Sweden is partially because of the many refuges and immigrants having a problem finding work. If you look at the unemployment of native Swedes it is below 3% and for people with immigrant background it is over 15%. Much of this is due to language issues finding a job if you don't speak or understand Swedish or English.
Too many comments as video goes on. Remember Finland has 5.5 million ppl and Sweden almost 10 million. Military power is questionable bc Finland has one of the largest artillery in Europe and we actually have to go to army. So active soldiers are counted by who get's salary out of it. We rely heavy on reserves, which are common ppl so reserves are estimated 800 000. We live nest to Russia so we have to be prepared. We have the ground forces like Leopards (best tanks there are) and sweden with their jas gripen fighter jets. It's really impressive that they actually designed and manufactured them by themselves but as close friends both can be combined to force to recon...
I just want to add here that if you look at Sweden as a whole, not just the populated areas, its 0,02 % of Sweden that consists of areas that have big or quite big problems with gang-crimes. (0,5% is when you look at the populated/more populated areas.)
I love your video, and there would be so many points to comment or add, but I must take this one at once: Why are there a double of Internet users in Sweden, compared to Finland? - Because there are about a double Swedes than Finns. The figure shown was absolute, not per capita. And that was the case in many other places. Also the comparision between the Swedish and Finnish armed forces totally forgot, that we have a comprehensive conscriptive army of 280 000 instant reserve, while Sweden is only starting to build up their infantry. Also our artillery is remarkable in European comparison.
To make it clear: the late USSR has nothing to do with the amount of Internet users. Practically every Finn, who is able to do so, is using the Internet.
Basically nobody in Sweden uses cash so it doesn't really matter what currency we use, except for when we travel. Commersially, yes, Asians get those jobs, but many Swedes pick berries, like Blueberries, Lingonberries, and Cloudberries, as well as Mushrooms, for their own consumtion
Interesting. Well, with street food culture in Thailand, cash will always be needed here. But most places will accept your card or even better QR scan or wtv.
@@MaxSujyNordenEven the small companies/sellers (like farmer's markets or hot dog stands) accepts cards or QR scanning here. I think it was about 20 years ago that the fee on card transfers was changed to be a subscription thing, so it doesn't cost either part anything when a card payment is made. Many people pay by phone, but I feel like it takes too long time compared to using the card
People that are home childre care is not counted as unemplyed. To be counted you must active seak job. And while you can stay home with child for quite a while you will only get payed for about a year.
Greetings from Denmark, if you think 8% unemployment is low, here it is 3%. We also kept our Krone & healthcare is not "free", it is actually paid for in the taxes, but we do pay, just not in the sense you are used to.. All the best from Denmark ❤.
The religion percentage for Sweden is very wrong. That is probably the number for people that are members of the church, but that number doesn't say anything since everyone was automatically born into the church up until the nineties or something. In reality, for original swedes, we are probably more than 95% atheists. But then we have a lot of immigrants, and most of them are muslims or christians. So a half wild guess about the actual numbers would be something like 10% christians, 10% muslims and 80% atheists.
Sweden does not use Euro. It's almost to the point that it's not even a valid currency in our country. So if you visit, do not exchange your money into Euros.
No you cannot pay with Euro in Sweden. Swedish kronor , Norwegian kroner, Danish Kroner are the ones ....actually only Finland uses Euro. The rest of the Nordic/Scandinavian (Denmark is only Scandinavian NOT Nordic) uses their own countrys curency kronor/kroner. Also Finland used to be a part of Sweden ...therefor there are still many names and cities in Finland with double names . Such as for example the cities Turku = Åbo, Helsinki = Helsingfors...Finish cities almost always also has a Swedish name. Finland is called _- Land of 1000 lakes ...For a reason... By the way..., GREAT ! Informative video/reaction

Similar in Finland.
When comparing the army sizes, remember that sweden is double the size in population - and yet the armies are same sized. So technically finnish army is double that of sweden's per capita. Finland has compulsory military service for all men, and finnish artillery is bigger than germany's and france's artillery combined. Check out some military videos from finland :)
And hey hey heeeeyyyy easy with the "sweden is better in ice hockey"! :D We will never agree to that!

The SIZE of the armies don't say much. The ranking utilizes over 60 individual factors to determine a nations power index score. Right now Sweden is nr 29 and Finland nr 50

Blueberry is a name for many berries, as is bilberry. Both are actually correct.

@@MaxSujyNorden NHL is not a fair measurement of who is top ranked in the world. NHL is not the only professional league in the world. Players drafted by NHL team from Sweden usually play in SEL for a few years before they are ready for the AHL. 4th best league is KHL. Each league 5th or worse are much inferior.
Edit;
I just want to add here that if you look at Sweden as a whole, not just the populated areas, its 0,02 % of Sweden that consists of areas that have big or quite big problems with gang-crimes. (0,5% is when you look at the populated/more populated areas.)
World Population Review, just like any other website and stats need to be taken with a grain of salt. Thailand is as safe as my country of birth Canada. I'm sure that the never ending conflict in a few provinces deep south of Thailand skew the data (between Thai and Muslims).
13:55 you just instigated a war mate 🤣🤣

They are definitly exploating some people from abroad for picking berries and mushrooms and stuff like that. It wouldn't even cover your rent.
@@Henrik_Holst Yes, you bring up an important distinction.

I am from Finland. That is income after taxes from salary. From that salary we bay A LOT of other taxes for example when buying food, casoline, electricity etc. After those the tax rate is like 50% or even more.
Well, you get free healthcare and education, for starter, your tax is being use for good things.
@@enkin1 Yes, what you are describing is slave work with is inevitable under capitalism. I am a progressive so I do agree with you.

Why are there a double of Internet users in Sweden, compared to Finland?

The religion percentage for Sweden is very wrong. In reality, for original swedes, we are probably more than 95% atheists. But then we have a lot of immigrants, and most of them are muslims or christians.
