  • We book a room at the worst rated hotel in Bournemouth, will it be as bad as the reviews say?

The filming style, the colours and weird music coming up the stairs into the room look like a deleted scene from Peep Show.

My dad was the head chef there in the early 70s, when it was a busy, very smart, hotel - especially popular with British families during the summer. Used to be elegant wedding reception parties, celebrities staying who were doing the summer shows at the Bournemouth theatres. In the area outside to the left of entrance used to be a large swimming pool, absolutely packed with families in the summer holidays, or couples having cream teas in the sun. Now the pool area is a building site / junk storage area, smashed concrete and overgrown. I thought the hotel was closed now, housing illegal immigrants instead???

Just a word of advice. If you do not wash the cups yourself in hot water b4 use. Do not use them at all. You don't know if they have been wiped with contaminated with something they have been wiped with. Think a out it the cleaners don't carry hot water or washing up liquid.. I personally wouldn't use the cups at all in any room.

We stayed there back in 2017, not too bad, had a large room at the front, enough room for extra beds, there was a folding bed and travel cot in the corridor so possibly been in the room. Overlooked the front but the lift didn't go all the way up, had an extra flight of stairs and the laundry store/cleaners HQ nearby. Dining room more like a canteen, only had breakfast but not too bad. Nice cliff walks.

Ive not stayed here, but worked on the garden and back off the hotel with college. It was disgusting.. dirty, messy, tree branches everywhere, trip Hazzards. Then i finally had enough, now work as a volunteer in a cafe which is a charity for women, so much happier now!

We stayed there once. We had family in Bournemouth who organised a couple of anniversary parties there. The first time we stayed there they sorted out our room and we overlooked the air conditioning units. For the second party we stayed at a nearby hotel of our own choosing.

    Looks OK, actually.
If this is a Britannia Hotel property, it is surprising because every other one of their hotels are total CR*P

We've stayed in a couple of there hotels on coach tours in Bournemouth and they were Carrington,Brittanys and for the price we paid it was ok but obviously we haven't been much since before COVID and other issues.

The "rope" is sash cord. All traditional sash windows have it. Connects a weight to counter balance the opening window.

I stayed there once. Aside from the bathroom floor being carpeted with pubes, it wasn't too bad.

We stayed there in 2021 as on website looked fine. still traumatised a complete revolting dump. Rooms and furniture which probably took out of somebodys skip. No food available families with kids rightly angry at being told nothing available. For me as lone mature woman i had scare and feared for my safety because I saw someone turning my door handle no knock ,my sons and hubby had gone to beach for evening for drinks and food. I was scared to speak next moment saw men on flat roof trying to open my room windows and get in. I screamed screamed luckily my sons just ran back when i called them. Guess what it was male reception manager and other men said next room had lost key and they were trying to get into my room to see if they could get through open window of next room, No apologies . Previous nights had seen young foreign men staring back from rooms opposite this hotel had been used to home asylum seekers at same time as holiday makers.

Just the usual drab, run on a shoe string UK hotel. The breakfasts also have suffered shrinkflation since Brexit. Welcome to Britain where the defining word is meh..
