Great reviews Nuzzo. I’ll add my experience for others. At 145 lbs and no prior wind sport experience, but could surf foil, I ended up using the 2400 v1 for ages (after the old 1600 proved too challenging). The 2400 maximized time on foil and helped learning gybes etc. This was pre 1850 days. Now 2 years in, I’ve owned most wings and my daily drivers are the 1125 and 925. Newer FG 60L board has opened up the HA wings for lower winds. Favorite combo is 1125/50fuse/100cmMast/FVtail in some tight waist plus wind chop. Closest thing to snowboarding pillow lines this side of the Appalachians!
Took a few lessons on the cf2400 and the last lesson on the 1850. Then straight to an older 1550v1 I bough t off a guy and love it. Super forgiving and low stall speed. After a few sessions I’m ready to drop the 300 tail. Too much lift in powered conditions and wanting more speed now. Only 145lbs and 10 sessions total on foil. Love the Armstrong gear and with the new mast rang now it making it super affordable to enter into Armstrong with used gear.
So....my entire takeaway is that at 80kg, starting wing foiling, but with YEARS of windsurf, kite, surf and SUP under my belt, I should order the 1850 A+ kit, and after a month or two order the 1550 V2 front wing to add to it? Sound about right?
Great videos. Question…can you install these Armstrong wingfoils on the new sky wing boards from fanatic. I would love the Armstrong foils but I know Armstrong boards track are more forward so was thinking maybe they not made to be fitted on other boards. Specially the sky wing ? Thank you.
Im only 145lbs and my son 110lbs. Ive been learning (hired gear) on a 2400 and 1850 I am in the process of getting my own armstrong gear. I have a kit minus front wing and though I might get away with the 1550 using the CF300 rear for extra stability? Do you think we could make the 1550 our 1st foil? I have read not so great things about the CF1600. Could the 1550 be a light wind option for us light riders? Opinions and thinking have changed quite a bit scince this video was released. Love to hear your thoughts thanks.
Coming from Takuma 980 and 75cm mast (real they are 77cm long)I switch to Armstrong. I like the direct feeling in the surf with short mast and also the compact feeling in the jump. 72 should be fine you think for wingfoil or a bit too short?
lighter rider here, 6 days on the 1550, can stay up wind and doing about half my gybes. love the wing, is it worth going up in size for increased light winds? Thanks Matt
Hey Matt! Wow such a helpful video. I was wondering -- I weigh 160lbs and am an advanced kiter and windsurfer but totally new to foiling (just graduating from efoiling on to winging as my first foil discipline). I've had 4 wingfoil sessions so far on a few different borrowed kits ranging from the Axis HA1050 to the Armstrong 2400 and I found the 2400 to be the easiest bar FAR - and I had my first flights on it for just a few seconds!. Now I'm looking to buy my first kit for winging in choppy water around 13-18knots. Would you recommend the 1850 at my weight and skill level or should I stay with the 2400? Any recommendations on a wing board that wont be too frustrating to learn in chop but will also let me progress and wont feel too big after a month? And last question, if i want to learn to kite foil on the same kit, what front wing do I want to swap out for? Thanks so much!!!
Thanks for the comments. Yeah the CF2400 is by far the easiest to learn to wing on. At your size you should get the HS1850 kit. Your second wing will be the HS1550 v2. Your third wing will be the HA925. That will cover all range and disciplines as you progress. For board, I would go for the Armstrong FG 99 L. That will work for learning and the light winds and also you won’t grow out of it. His boards are amazing and ride smaller than they are when you are on foil. Other board to consider that I really like for you are the Appletree Apple Slice 5’7. We have both in stock.
@@REALmattnuzzo Hi Matt, I’ve been wing foiling the HS1850 comfortably for a while now. Do you think I could go straight down to the 1250 or first go to 1550? For reference I weigh 120 pounds and my board is a 75L Armstrong. Thanks so much!
Thx Matt. I have the 1850 and 1550 and thinking to get the 1250 but dont know if that makes sense. I usually use the 1850 as there are allways some bumps to ride and the 1850 has more glide then the other 2 correct?? But in 25+ knots winds would you recommend better to use the 155o instead of the 1850 as I would have more control in stronger winds but less glide in the bumps?? And the 1250 when would you ride that, in 30+ knots winds or will the gain of control over the 1550 in strong winds not be noticeable?? Many thx!! I am 87 kg, 5.4 95 liter board, open sea with chop and bumps, when turning in the open sea there are always some bumps to ride so its a mix of riding the bumps and freeriding.
The HS1250 is going to best for turning and riding more swell in 20knots or more. The deciding factor between the 1250 and 1550 will be how much swell you have and how much chop. The 1250 will handle the more swell and chop better as well as turn better. Since you have some high winds, I would definitely add the HS1250.
Yeah first step is upgrade your HS1550 to the v2. Then second investment is gonna be the HS1250 or HA925 for when you have some more swell and wind. HA925 is harder to ride than the HS1250 but it is so sick. Tons of glide and turning.
Yeah the Armstrong FG boards are insane. You will love it. If you are new to downwinding and foiling then get the CF2400. If you have some experience then the HS1850 will give you more speed and turning. 🤙

Totally spot on.. my next step will be the V tail.. everything about the 2400, 1850 and 1550 is as stated! I love having them all..

Thanks for those great explanations of fuse length, water column weight and shimming. Really helpful
Thanks for the breakdown! So much info out there that it's hard to digest. This was very helpful!

It really depends on how light of wind you are riding in and what size hand wing but yes the HS1850 will be your light wind weapon.
