    "All of its characters felt like real people". That's a beautiful element of series that Naoko Yamada is involved in, whether she's a director, like with K-On! and Tamako Market/Love Story, or a series production director, like with Hibike. She's said before in K-On! interviews that she looks at characters as real people. One of the reasons why she's my favorite director in the industry.
    There are some great interviews with some of the staff of Hibike, like the scriptwriter, animation director/character designer, and composer, to name a few.

      That's really neat! Much as I've started watching and enjoying more anime in recent years, I'm still lacking a bit of knowledge when it comes to the people in the industry. Luckily I have some friends that are more well-versed than I that I can learn from. Nonetheless, this is really interesting and helpful, so thanks for dropping some links for me to check out. If anything, I think it's kinda cool that I picked up on some of that without knowing of her direct influence. I guess it speaks as much to how talented she is.

      There are over a dozen interviews with Yamada on her anime, and reading through them, you get a sense of her style of directing and the techniques she employs. If you took note of all the leg shots in Hibike, they're all Yamada (not animated by her, but definitely storyboarded/included). There's a great 47-second long cut in the K-On! Movie that's just a shot of the characters' legs as they're walking, but you can tell who they are based on just the way they're animated.
      " ''The eyes may be the window to the soul,' but I think our legs are like that too. Usually we hide our legs under our desks or else they'll reveal our true emotions."

      Oh, I totally noticed all the leg shots in Hibike. Pretty cool to be able to put that down to the focus of someone involved with the project, though.

    Looking at your uploaded history I feel spoiled. These last number of videos have been on anime/games that I absolutely adore and have thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them. Fantastic stuff, man, I can only hope for more.

    Dude, seriously. Your work is most def high quality. And I really love the production quality and this essay. Pardon the expression, but you're stuff of legends to come.
    As for my time in high school, I can remember them fondly, and that was 12 years ago. God, just remembering that it was over a decade ago kind of depresses me.

    • @WallyTheLegend

      Well thank you! That's high praise that I can hopefully live up to going forward. As for high school, yeah, it's a bit weird to think back on at times, eh?

    I mostly got into the show because I'm in a band myself. Not a school band but certainly one the focuses mainly on brass instruments (I'm personally a percussionist).

    • @WallyTheLegend
      @WallyTheLegend  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I remember reading comments from band people when I first started watching the show saying how much they were enjoying it. I'm sure at first it was cool to see we were getting a show like this.

    great video with amazing production as always. one of your first anime videos (the samurai champloo one) is one of the reasons i got into anime. and all the video's since then have been great spotlights for some i've really enoyed.
    side note: that jinsang track in the video was a treat. im a big fan of his work and randomly hearing it in the vid was dope

    • @WallyTheLegend
      @WallyTheLegend  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I'm really glad I could help you get into anime with my videos. That's always been some of my intent in talking about stuff so to hear that is nice. And yeah! I heard some of Jinsang's stuff recently and wanted to try and work some into a video.

    A measure of the quality of the series is the number of reviews analyzing the interactions and growth of the characters.
    As for me, at 59 I've reached the age where I can look back through rose colored glasses, forgetting the bad parts and reminiscing on the better parts of my youth.
    But, nah, high school was miserable. I like these shows partly because they had the high school experience I didn't .

    Don't really have anything big to say. Haven't seen the show (yet! After watching this video I have to, now), still in high-school myself.
    What I WANT to say, though, is: goddamn, the editing. The production value, man. And the content. I can see you're putting your heart into these. I wanted to watch it while doing something else, but thought to myself "No. Hell no. This video should get 100% of my attention"
    Amazing job, once again.

    • @WallyTheLegend
      @WallyTheLegend  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, A) hopefully it ends up being relatable in different ways for you since you're still in high school. I'd be curious to hear about that. And B) thank you so much yet again for the kind words. Editing is definitely something I love to work on, so I'm glad it's noticeable. Hopefully, I can impress even more in the future!

    That's another show that I want to watch but haven't gotten around to...
    My problem is that I start watching shows that are so obscure that I can't even find all of the episodes on the internet, instead of watching what's actually available >w>
    (That and the fact that I spend FAR more time playing video games than watching anime or cartoons)

    Yeah, I reference this one all the time in my own videos; it's such an excellent example of strong craftsmanship. "It's all very...human, if I'm at liberty to toss that word around."
    >mfw my Hibike video is titled "How Hibike Euphonium Crafted The Most Human Characters In Anime"

      Well, it sounds like we have similar thoughts on Hibike, in which case I'm not surprised you'd reference back to it! Definitely a great combination of characters and storytelling with all the effort KyoAni put into it.

    Uknow I fucking love kyoani, honestly one of my fave animation studios and I think the animation/look of this show is out standing... But I only made it 6 or so episodes in and something about this show just didn't click with me.
    The main character just didn't gel with me, she was a little cynical but still kinda felt like a little miss perfect which kinda bothered me. Plus the show just felt a little to high strung for me.
    It's weird because I typically love high school anime series and K-on is one of my favourite series.
    Great review though I think I need to give the series another go and hopefully if I push on a bit more I will find more enjoyment in it.

    • @WallyTheLegend
      @WallyTheLegend  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's been fun for me in learning about studios because I've actually super enjoyed other shows that they've worked on without knowing it was their work at the time. I would say at this point based on what I've really liked that they're one of my favorite studios. I can understand based on what you like in characters maybe not liking Kumiko as much at first. Though she does grow up a bit and change for the better as the series goes on, so might be worth giving it another go! If you do decide to watch more I'd love to hear back from ya.

    • @OmegaJester09
      @OmegaJester09 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea I do plan to give it a go again something and hopefully enjoy it once I push though a bit... haha I have the same exact problem with the anime 'Your Lie in April' actually I hear its amazing, but I just find it hard to push though it. ...maybe I'm just a horrible person who prefers shows with imperfect characters like 'Genshiken' or 'welcome to the NHK'.

    • @WallyTheLegend
      @WallyTheLegend  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I would say Kumiko is very much an imperfect character (though I don't think you were saying differently). That being said, Welcome to the NHK is fantastic so I know what you're getting at.

    Печально, что нет русских субтитров у таких видео. Англоязычной аудитории это аниме понравилось больше, чем русскоязычной. У русских ютуберов просто нет таких видео Т_Т
