As of current information, it appears that "Crucible Steel" is not leaving, but rather the company "New Jersey Steel" is no longer part of the Crucible Industries group; meaning New Jersey Steel is the one leaving, not Crucible Steel itself.
Not into knives as a hobby. I have 1 or 2 but MAN! ...do i love this presentation! upvoted! :) :) :)
Thanks much!
I can only imagine how bad the price increase would be if benchmade purchases crucible and put the butterfly tax on all the cpm steels they manufacture. 😅
Benchmade would control not only knife steel but whatever industrial applications crucible supplies
I would ligitimately hate this, their stuff is so overpriced already. 😮
Great run down!
Thanks much. I’m mortally watching yours right now. I didn’t know the 2009 acquisition was a bankruptcy bail out as well
@ ya, I hope they can restructure and keep making great steel.
@ I wonder what their mix of industrial production is vs knife steel production. I imagine the industrial world is very volatile.
@@gideonstacticalgood morning brother
I like these info sessions. Didn't know about this. Very interesting. Thanks, X!
The issues has always been we do not have the ore in usa to make steel this is why everyone outsources materials then makes them here .
I have had bunch of conversations in the past about this when i was going to produce a knife .
If we loose this plant no knife will be truly made here
10 seconds in I peeped the MKC hoodie! Good stuff X!
Great Analysis on this topic - thanks for bringing attention to it - I had no idea. Crucible steel is also my favorite blade steel manufacturer, and I a huge fan of buying "MADE IN AMERICA" knives and other products. Even though China does have some good quality knives now (e.g. WE, Civivi, Reate, etc.) as well as tons of junk, I DO NOT BUY ANY KNIVES MADE IN CHINA. I don't want my dollars going to support all the unethical manufacturing practices in China, such as: brand theft, intellectual/design/technology theft, child labor, underpaid labor, dishonesty in materials used, etc., etc. I also do not want to support the economy of the Chinese Communist Party and their bullying, threatening, lies, dishonesty, oppression, cheating and ultimately goals of world domination. I do, however, buy knives from Italy (LionSteel) and Spyderco's made in Taichung, Taiwan and Seki City, Japan.
I totally agree with you that we need to do everything we (legally) can do to prevent more manufacturing from going to China - including Crucible Steel. People need to wake up before it's too late and we're all living under a red flag - just look at who China considers as allies: Russia, Iran, Syria (Assad Regime), Venezuela, Cuba, (crazy ass) North Korea, etc. Marx's evil ideologies and governing systems of Socialism/Communism are already responsible for the deaths of 94-100+ MILLION PEOPLE worldwide (some estimate over 150 million) - we do NOT need to be using our money to support the economies of governments that are trying to expand Communism worldwide! Please consider this people - regardless of how great the products they make are and how much money you can save - it's not worth it in the long run!
Thanks! I'm trying to bring attention to this
love some CPM154
Pocket knives, meh. Lesser steels are fine for EDC since they're typically light use and you should tough them up regularly at home. Fixed blades on the other hand, you need those to be tougher with better edge retention. You don't want to have to touch those up every night while out camping, hunting, etc. Even if they don't disappear, production will stall or slow, availability drops, and prices increase (and those prices won't come back down if it stabilizes down the road). If you have your eye on an MKC, Reiff, or any CPM "super steel"....Buy it just in case. Use their sezzle or klarna financing if they have it (many do) if you have to.
Good points. I'm looking at fixed blades more closely myself.
❤
✌🏿
Appreciate the video. I've been lookin at the Piranha with the finger rings scales option from Kell knives. I'm stuck on those finger loop handles lol. Picked up a Tops c.u.t 40 recently, really dig it
I'll have to check that out!
@MarineX I'm slowly starting to replace all my folders with streamlined fixed blades I can still pocket carry using like an Ulticlip or something similar. Finding a good sheath for that is the hardest part 😂. But that finger loop makes for great indexing. I'm bout to try n take a crack at making some sheath's that hold the whole blade n handle but just expose the finger loop so it's as low profile as possible n see how well that works.
