Very clear about the differences, but concise at the same time; very helpful indeed.

Amazing a great video - by far the most helpful concise comparison I’ve seen anywhere & this has really informed & aided me in choosing which way to go with HVLP spraying for my work- thanks.

Great video explaining the different types of sprayers. I have been spraying with an airless sprayer for around ten years now. Although recently I’ve been picking up jobs spraying metal sculptures. So I’ve been looking into hvlp Systems. Less over spray, more control. So far I like the gravity feed. Seems like I would be able to switch paint colors without cleaning up the sprayer each time. Thank you for the video

Awesome comparison- didn’t make it over complicated & hit on all the main points!
Would love a video taking it further & comparing airless, air assisted airless, and Turbine :)

FINALLY a video that explains the difference between these systems! I have been looking for months and still struggled to understand them, so thank you! I have a couple of questions if that's okay:
    1) you touched on the HVLP system, and it seems to me after watching this that there is no such thing as an HVLP gun, rather it is just the cap that determines that sub-type....is that correct? It's just I notice all the turbine HVLP systems seem to use siphon feed and I wondered whether this was specific to HVLP systems, especially as they work by reducing the pressure to the cap + a high pressure feed to the paint which as you say helps create the pressure difference to draw up the paint
    2) I always used to think that the siphon system worked by blowing air across the top of a tube connecting to the container by using the venturi effect. Is that a sub-type of the siphon fed system or do they all work using using a higher pressure to feed to the paint container?
    Many thanks.

ok I'll try to take it one step at a time..
      1. Most guns that spray HVLP can also be set up to spray compliant by changing the aircap like you described, but there are SOME HVLP only guns.
1a. Siphon feed is MOSTLY used when spraying HVLP, but you could also set up a system to spray HVLP and be siphon feed (even with a turbine).
      2. Siphon feed does infact work based on the venturi effect.

@@Spraywell ah okay thanks man I think I got it. The feature that got me confused is that HVLP spray guns seem to all have one common feature; a tube running high pressure air from the gun to the pot. Most conventional siphon feed guns dont seem to have this, which made me wonder they worked on an entirely different principle?

I have an old DeVilbiss JGA siphon gun, can i add a pressure pot and spray unthinned latex paint?

Also just one final thing, would you say because you can dial in the pressure fed paint on pressure fed, does that mean they potentially have less over-spray than the other types?

    • @Spraywell
      @Spraywell  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

not necessarily. The way the rest of your spray rig is configured would be more important (cfm & psi) when it comes to managing overspray.

I just picked up a CAT-Xpress pressure feed HVLP with the aluminum cup. It looks like a regular siphon feed, except it has the pressure feed tube going to the cup.
What should I be setting the cup pressure to? I’m spraying General finishes Enduro Pre-cat Lacquer. ANY help is greatly appreciated!

      Hello,
There is no specific number that I can tell you where to set this but I can guide you to find your "sweet spot" as they call it. MOST people will find that somewhere between 7 - 9 psi is where they find their best fluid pressure but if your material is very thick I've seen these set as high as 15 psi (but only for thick material that is struggling getting up the cup). What you are looking for is for the fluid to come out consistently and evenly WITHOUT pushing too much fluid out(thus causing a bad finish). This will take some trial and error but like I mentioned in the beginning, you'll probably find success in the area of 7 - 9 PSI, you just need to find your "sweet spot". Once you are able to spray and feel happy about the finish that is the "spot" there is no ONE official answer.

Maybe a dumb cuestion .... but here I go !!. its possible to use a Siphon feed in a preasure feed system? yes, no. or what modifications you need to do to your spray gun. thank you and very clever video.
One idea. I use the preasure feed for primers or most used paint, black, white, clear coats etc. and never ever clean the pot or the gun. just depresurize it and leve it until next use.

Also read more books. Your vocabulary is a little limited. You're having a hard time explaining things.
But thank for a good informative vid.
