I think you have to look to Muse for basslines coming close... I fucking LOVE a good bass line, And One have some awesome lines, more consistently than anyone else. Combichrist have the odd few, like Fuckmachine and Tractor.
exactly Mel Berg ..; and other bands keep on using the exact same bass line .. but And One can let this bass line develop during the whole song ;. amazing !!

Primus is a completely different genre, but they have some absurdly good baselines.

It will probably be back. Same thing happened with TOOL, I remember looking for them on there at the beginning of the year, and they where not there. Now all their music is back on there.
