      I don't see how the released CO2 stays separate from the rest of the air.
      Maybe the tree was a concept application till they work that out?
      or maybe the plastic costs too be profitable from the carbon tax credits?

    Literally no one is saying we should absorb all of the co2 in the atmosphere, no one is saying co2 is pollution. The goal is to absorb the unnatural EXCESS of co2 in the atmosphere that exists as a BYPRODUCT of pollution from fossil fuels such as oil and coal. Co2 is most definitely a natural thing, but the amounts we see in our current atmosphere are abnormal. If we get back to the levels of co2, worldwide, that existed before say the industrial revolution, then life would be much better for..everything living. Co2 is good for plants, too much co2 will kill off everything due to global warming. We've already seen what co2 and global warming gone wild can do, just look at Venus. Life will actually thrive better, if we reduce the amount of co2 in our atmosphere, places that have been suffering droughts and catastrophes due to global warming will flourish again. The way to make the green parts of our planet greener than what we've seen in 100 years lies in many paths and technologies, and types of co2 sequestration will likely be a big part of it.

    • @caeabw92
      @caeabw92 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That..being said, I'd love to see the co2 captured by this type of remarkable material, put back into algae to make biofuel, whose co2 would be fed back into the algae to create a closed system for energy demands. Something like the co2 from this resin being fed into algae tanks like the ones on the algae powered apartment complex in Hamburg, Germany.

    people in these comment sections fail to see the benefit of making this kind of technology even if it hasn't been implemented in mass yet... I assume we're waiting on funding and finding the proper way to store the captured CO2 still? anthropogenic climate change aside, having this technology for the next century to millions of years if our species makes it is what is more important because CO2 levels fluctuate naturally and maybe it will be what we use to maintain our climate from NON-anthropogenic climate change. No need to want a completely iceless world millions of years from now, or an ice age when we can control greenhouse gases to live in the world are adapted to instead of one we are not. The technology will come if we have the time. In the meanwhile, yes, renewable energy and reforestation is important

    if you had a 1/8th inch think strip of this plastic and made a dome with it then on the inside put a water sprayer, would it absorb the co2 from the outside then the co2 would move through the plastic to the inside then the water sprays then the co2 goes inside then a vacuum pump sucks out the water and co2 sorts it so the co2 goes into a gas tank and the water goes back to the sprayer? or instead of a vacuum pump on the inside you could have a small plant.

    I don't think having 60 million of these trees will do as much good as having too much CO2. If anything we should 'plant' these trees in CO2 populated areas (Big cities), or use the material more as a filter for things such as vehicles or large factories that release CO2.
    But then again, I dont have the numbers and the whole picture of this yet. Cool invention though.

      Also why did you say no one should plant more trees?

      Also if a city has no space to even plant trees then where will artificial trees go?

    each tree costs $100,000.... so 60 million trees is VERY expensive.

    I would like to remind viewers that plants love CO2. They don't reach their best growth rates until CO2 reaches 1200pm. Reducing CO2 levels would be dangerous for plants. If CO2 drops below 250ppm plants stop growing. Below 150ppm plant death occurs.
    If your interested, a good article can be found at the following link:
    university.upstartfarmers.com/blog/why-and-how-to-supplement-co2-in-indoor-farms
    Happy reading.

      Do you even science Kevin? You seriously have no idea how bad 1200ppm of Carbon would be to the environment. Nature is a delicate thing and even a small shift is enough to destroy it as we know it. We are at 410ppm and rising.
      Don't compare indoor farms to Earth because those indoor farms aren't as complicated as the earth's ecosystems.

      This has been one of the crucial elements of the debate, is the climate robust? Or is it fragile? The alarmist argues that it is fragile and slight changes lead to catastrophic failure.
      The evidence for a robust system is the fact that you and I are here.
      Are you complaining about me referencing other people's science? In science, every claim has a reference to supporting science done by someone else.

      @SuikaNine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, sorry to dissapoint you but someone like you would reject reality regardless of how many scientific papers I show you. You are a lost cause.

      Suika this is your second attack on my character. Generally science based discussions proceed on the quality of the argument and supporting evidence not character attacks.
      Would you like to continue the discussion without the character attacks? There is still much to be said about the argument you have already presented.

    • @SuikaNine
      @SuikaNine 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry for attacking your character but man made Climate change is something that can NOT be debated because it is fact.
      The only people who think is a debate are politicians and celebrity figures who have been payed off by Oil companies or those who listen to them.
      Think of it this way, (and I mean no offense) would you sit here and debate with a person who believes that the government is run by lizard people, when you know such a proposition is utterly stupid?

    Can the captured CO2 be used to make concrete?

  • @sorh
    @sorh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have better technology: a device that traps more CO2 as it ages, does not require any power supply, manufacturing costs or maintenance. It's a Tree.

    • @Deontjie
      @Deontjie ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, but a rotting or burning tree release carbon. Then again, plants needs carbon. These contraptions produce carbon during manufacturing, transportation, installing, maintenance, and eventually a trip to the landfill.

  • @FarhiRosleysembunyi
    @FarhiRosleysembunyi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So after trapping the co2, what it will be used for? Is it safe to just hold the co2 in large quantities without doing nothing? can we just send the unused co2 to space?

    • @X02switchblades
      @X02switchblades 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can store it in a wollastonite deposit so that it becomes calcium silicate or other deposits which react with co2 this way

    Where do you store all this CO2, trees do a better job for free, thanks to global warming trees will absorb and store more CO2 faster then ever. All we need to do is pass a Tree law, every citizen must own 2 trees on their property, problem solved

  • @thegentlemansretreat9742

    So this does not convert co2 into oxygen or anything, just captures it? Which then has to be stored somewhere? How much co2 does the plastic manufacturing create?

  • @WayneJohnsonZastil

    Ack we need more CO2 not less these artificial trees will kill natural ones!

  • @royjohnwatt

    the most expensive tree ever, just plant actual trees and reforest our degraded landscapes. we need a living habitat not a desert with false trees

  • @TrickedHat
    @TrickedHat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    2:04 they just let the normal atmosphere of co2 back into the airtight chamber? would that not just let the levels go back up as normal? and also they want to absorb the co2 and just let it back out into the air by wetting the material what is the point of that??
