- Sonny Bill Williams announced his retirement from both codes of rugby this week, so now we look at back at the distinguished career of a two-time Rugby World Cup winner. Since his code switch in 2008, SBW became a vital part of the All Black’s side that went on to be back-to-back champions of the world. In this video we take a glimpse at some of the greatest moments in the career of an offload king!

Favorite moment of Sonny Bill is his gentleness and class with the kid from the worldcup. We rarely get to see the softer side of rugby players and he showed it on a world stage with a priceless award he earned. It came right off his neck and into the hands of another...CLASS

People tend to forget he’s been doing it way before Rugby it was his trademark in the NRL along with his hits. Yeah sure a lot of players offload the ball but they never did it with so much flare, awareness & timing like SBW. At his peak he was more than just his offloads, the passing skills, solids hits, ability to break the line & just his I.Q. In my opinion he’s the best player to cross both codes. 👑
People also forget that Fiji been doing this since the 80s and 90s only then it wasn't known as "offload"
@@rokomalani432 What’s your point? I’m talking about a signature trademark he was known for before he came to Rugby. It’s like Lebron James’s chase down block, many did it before him but he turned into stardom doing it night in night out.

I have just read his book and have nothing but huge respect and admiration for this guy, he is truly a great player and a wonderful human being as well - humble and generous

@@WorldRugby Yeap, well said. Who am I to judge SBW and his career in Rugby League, maybe that comment came out of me not being a fan of Rugby League, that's all. Thank you for coming up with all these tributes during the Covid 19 crisis. It kept the Rugby hardcore fans going. Somehow, it compensates a bit of the lack of competitions. Thank you again. All the best to SBW and good luck in his future endouhvers. KEEP RUGBY CLEAN.

One of my favourite players. He faced his daemons and came out stronger, with grace after the whistle and flair during the game. Who could forget him giving away his winners medal after a guard "smoked" 14 y.o. Charlie as SBW said? Great character that any nation would love and did.

I did a stupid offload behind my back while getting tackled and my club called me Sonny Bill Williams for about a month *I didn't like it* not that I don't like the player I just didn't deserve it.

Who'd you recommend? I remember just hearing about his offloads before I saw him play, I don't really remember other players signature being their offload.
@@chris5240if we are have to consider both 15's and 7's ,definitely not the offload champion ...he also played 7s ,he did some decent offloads but i would call him the "offload king "...but 100% one of the best players in the world to have played all codes of rugby including rugby league .

@@abrahamturaga4782 He may not be the best offloader, but he did bring that part of the game into focus. It seems like many more players are comfortable with risky one-handed offloads these days...and I think SBW accelerated the skill level of all professional players.
As a comparison, In cricket, Jonty Rhodes did the same with fielding.
It was SBW bringing the offload in from league that changed Rugby. There may be others who can possibly do it better but none did it consistently before him and at the pinnacle of the sport. One of the greatest NZ athletes of all time
