It's a good idea but I think some very very very tiny pieces of plastic still get though

Why not have the plastic fed straight into the tumble dryer, instead of using a shovel?

I have a couple questions. First, does it require water input and if so how much? Second, can someone give me a lead on how the packaging is recycled, that seems like an awful mix of dozens of different materials. I'm surprised they don't just burn it.

I think it does need some amount of water to smoothen the process. I know this principle from other similar machines. There the water is recycled over and over till the end of the work, before disposing it off. The worm presses the mixture of food and plastic against a screen where the food goes through while the plastic stays behind. Different materials could be filtered out too. Go watch videos on YT about recycling companies, and you see how that works.
