Living the Joy of the Gospel by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle (Manila)

Cardinal Luis Tagle is the Archbishop of Manila, and spiritual leader to Asia's largest Catholic nation, the Philippines. His gifted communications skills make him a wonderful storyteller and powerful homilist. Following the devastations wrought by Typhoon Haiyan in 2012, Cardinal Tagle reassured his people to “Be the face of God and be the hope of others.” Speaking at the Catholic Leadership Centre in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, he shares some reflections on Pope Francis' apostolic exhoration "The Joy of the Gospel", from an Asian perspective.

ABOUT THE CARDINAL
Cardinal Tagle was ordained to the priesthood in 1982 and has taught philosophy and theology at the Divine Word and San Carlos Seminaries and at the Loyola School of Theology. He attended the Catholic University of America (Washington, D.C.), where he earned a licence in Sacred Theology in 1987 and a doctorate with summa cum laude in 1991. In 1997, Blessed Pope John Paul II appointed Fr Tagle as a member of the International Theological Commission, where he became a close collaborator of Pontiff Emeritus Benedict XVI, who was president at the time. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 2012 and currently serves as a member of the Congregation for Catholic Education; Pontifical Councils for the Family; for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People; and on the Synod of Bishops.
