Essential tools you need to have 1 backpack (carry more) 2 gasmask (no addtional damage) 3 blueprint (upgrade weapon) 4 map (later on pick expidation) 5 axe or baseball bat (deal with weird entity at first phase) 6 toys (I just know that it make sanity drain slower!) 7 flashlight (use for light the storage room it have mechanic stuff ,don’t lose it) 8 radio (to get extra event that give you more loot) 9 medkits (if you go to hospital you will know that something is listening to you) Goodluck survivor 12/11/66
I usually always take the toys XD and make sure the essentials are taken as well and the fact that the toys only take up one space is handy for when you need to get smth that takes up one slot when your upstairs besides soap and food
Weapons imo are not needed. Most of the time, traded weapons are better. A crowbar has better stats than the axe for a low price. I think a map and gas mask are obtainable in Neighborhood too.

The true reason is that if someone has diarrhea after eating taco bell, it would smell so they need a gas mask to prevent the smell from hitting their nose holes

You can get the laser sword after a fail attempt to get the scientist ending. The scientist will open a portal like normally but instead he get kill by his future self. After that, you need to defeat a wave of robot and the scientist. He will drop the sword after you defeat him.
