I had chronic diarrhea for years and many other symptoms along with it. I never received a proper diagnosis from any of the doctors I went to. I was getting so frustrated with the most recent doctor visit that I went on the internet and typed in my symptoms. What kept coming up was “Celiac Disease “. I then requested the simple blood test to determine if I had it. Sure enough I tested positive for Celiac Disease. Some really good info in here I hadn't heard before on possibly differentiating between infectious and inflammatory causes of chronic diarrhea. You are the best Dr Wil! I have your books and they are awesome. I also love the true empathy you show towards people suffering with GI troubles. Thank you!
More on BAM please. Took 42 years for me to be diagnosed. Most people don;t know what it is and never was it mentioned in all those years of GP visits and hospital tests. A tablet after every meal and I can finally live a relatively normal life.
Could you clarify what is BAM is and what is the tablet that you take that is helping? My son has had debilitating irritable bowel syndrome with chronic dumping for years. He is 5'10 and weighs 108 lb. I'm always trying to get more informed in hopes that we will find a solution someday
I suffer from chronic diarrhea I happened to have a hydration mix at home and made up one bottle and one cup and drinking the cup of hydration mix with filtered water and the diarrhea appears to have stopped .. I have sludge in my gallblader and a fatty litter from 4 months of chronic watery stool I'm exhasted .. I've lost so much weight due to this issue I will need to bring my doctor's attention to this in case it's another issue .. Going to order more hydration mix
Dear all! I have been suffering from for past 2 months. 1) mushy stools that has undigested food 2) It happens 2-3 times a day 3) white mucus visible sometimes 4) Flatulence a lot No other symptoms like pain or blood in the stool or anything else at all
Hello, I am going through the same situation you are, constant diarrhea, it’s been on going for a month. I wanted to check up on you and see if everything is okay. Were you able to find a cure? If so, can you please let me know what helped? Thank you and have a blessed day.
@ hello, I am actually going to see a doctor tomorrow. I am currently still experiencing symptoms, however, it has gotten a bit better compared to before. I’ll keep you updated.
Let's not be fearful to get all these tests....until the hospital bill comes in and you realize insurance covered almost nothing and your stuck with a hefty bill and possibly no diagnosis at all.
How can one of the worst chronic (idiopathic) conditions like BAD (bile acid diarrhoea) and it's lack in research and treatment be ignored??? It is hell for sufferers...
I don't know if I have it but I'm going through something extremely similar to it anyway and it is hell. Its been happening to me for years now and it's just miserable. I'm not even an adult, I've got school and stuff while this is happening and I hate it.
When I lived in the Middle East in my late 20's I found I had severe diarrhea after consuming anything with Olive Oil in it. Eliminated Olive Oil, diarrhea disappeared. Really weird. Dysentery was also a problem if water wasn't thoroughly boiled
Not a word about chronic stress and its impact on the gut-brain axis Dysregulation of the nervous system can lead to many chronic "functional" problems like IBS . I wonder if this doctor ever asks his patients about the stress and emotional trauma etc in their lives
I know without a doubt 20 years of constant stress over my son and his in and out of jail and drug use until his death 9 years ago from meth. THEN I had 5 years of stress dealing with his Don who came to live with us and was on and out of jail and stealing from us until I made him leave 5 years ago. He's homeless and presently in jail. So I have microscopic colitis. At 75. I told them both repeatedly they were killing me. 😢😢😢
Excellent - clear and methodical. Has made me think it IS worth me asking to discuss this with my GP, as I have been experiencing multiple loose stools ofr some years. Colonoscopy 18 months ago ruled out bowel cancer - at that point. Polyps were removed - Jonathan didn't mention them? Or whether something can live in our guts for decades eg the amoeba from dysentery? My dad always put his problemm down to the war years in India as a young adult. Any thoughts?
I find too much vegetable and too little protein, causes chronic diarrhoea . If I stick to a vegan diet for a long time , this occurs and disappears immediately goes if I add eggs, meat , fish. 8:10
Toast has gluten, which makes me have diarrhea. Even gluten-free bread makes me sick. Rice also makes me feel bad too. So BRAT (banana, rice, applesauce, toast) diet is pretty toxic for me! It makes me worse.
I'm allergic to wheat The doctor say intolerance I see allergic because I eat it and I get sick. You were talking about the Brett diet One thing does help and that is the rice. When babies have diarrhea in my generation we would take a smaller amount of rice and boil it to get the starch. Like a normal steam rice is a 2 to 1 ratio two cups to 1 cup. Of course it wouldn't boil that much but do one cup to a quarter cup instead of a half a cup and the rice can absorb all that liquid and it gives off a starch. By the way do not rinse off your rice because that rinse is all the starch that's what you need. It does help a good bit just drink the water lift you can eat the rice too that helps. Not so much if you're diabetic but it does help you cut. Then being diabetic when the side effects of my medication is tada diarrhea ...
Both me suffering same thing for 5 and half years tried different things but not working instead increasing and I'm going nut because of it. I need help too
Damn, im so sorry for you guys. I've been going through it for 2 or 3 years and it's just constant. Plus, I'm not even an adult I literally have school and everything how am I supposed to put up with this?? I'm miserable. 7 years and 15 years sounds like hell. I'm so sorry for you guys.
My 37 year old daughter has had chronic diarrhea (day and night) for months. Her weight continues to decrease (150lbs down to 83lbs…she’s 5’0”) She refuses to go to the doctor because it’s “embarrassing” and expensive. We’ve tried all the dietary things mentioned, but nothing is working. Help, please.

Best of luck leamatthew800 ! It is most distressing seeing one´s own child like that...
I've had extremely watery stool everyday for more than a year now. No blood or pain though. I don't have to poop during the night, but I do have alot of gas. What could be wrong? My sister is lactose intolerant and says that because she didn't adapt her diet, it made her intolerant to other things aswell. She can't eat bread and such. I have a gallstone. Not sure if that could be causing it?
Very interesting and helpful for so many to start getting to the bottom 😁 of their problems.. A member of my family has been diagnosed with BAM. Bile acid malabsorption and has been prescribed sequestrants . Is there any other things that can help? Love to hear your views.
Dr. Will Bulsiewicz mentioned EPI and Gallbladder removal induced chronic diarrhea as being easily treatable. I've had clients remove all those foods but still have the issue. Anything else that would help?
It all sounds very interesting. We eat a lot of Europe's diet, plus a few other items. I like wild meat, rabbit, Venison as well as wide range of vegetables. We started adding lots of garlic...I found that I would get a loose bowl quite a few times per quarter. Days of work. I ran a tolerance test, which indicated I should drop some of these foods. This issue stopped. We follow a lot of Zoë advice and are generally very good.
I'm 13 and I've been going through serious chronic diarrhea. It's literally been going on for years and it's making my entire life completely miserable. My family know and are trying their best to help me and we've seen doctors a few times. But it just won't stop. In school, its becoming a serious problem and I literally wake up at 4 in the morning only to have to clean myself for about 15 minutes and yes, it happens in my sleep. I have just had enough. I know this comment probably won't be seen by anybody but please if you do see this and you have any idea what I'm going through, please tell me how to get rid of it or even sort of just make it less of a problem.

There is an ‘o’ in the word diarrhoea. It’s difficult to spell, but just remember there is the word ‘hoe’ after the double ‘r’. I guess the video might have used an American spelling. If that’s the case, it’s no excuse for a British channel.
