I know guys who go there and came back with not a single bite from Hucho (some of them even two years in a row). You have been lucky man! Awesome video. :) Good to see when someone has to travel so big distance and is succesfull. :) I am going to Slovenia this year and I cant wait:)
That is so sick that you got to go to Europe man! and target that species! being from new jersey i would love to do that and it looked like a thrill man!!!
Nice editing, Chris! And those HUCHO...Man! Glad to hear that you had a blast. I know now that I will have to learn some Italian to fish in Italy in the future. That is no fun...On a side note, my wife is from Croatia. So, who knows! Maybe Bosnia or Croatia one of these days. Hehe.
Fishing & Biodiversity I would say the hucho taimen is tied with the king salmon for size. The biggest recorded taimen was 123 lbs while the biggest recorded king salmon was 126 lbs. There is a reported 200 lb taimen but it's just a report, never verified.
thanks! I learned all about these hucho hucho and their relatives the hucho taimen. something crazy- our guide had gone on a trip to siberia with a mothership + helicopter for 30 days on a quest for giant taimen earlier in the year, they traveled 900 miles into the wilderness and shockingly didn't find what they were looking for, that being giant taimen. They had a film crew on board and I believe there will be a documentary to follow, they caught some great fish and I can only imagine what that whole trip was like, im hoping that comes out sometime soon but I really dont know, something to keep an eye out for though! here is that trailer.. vimeo.com/196630914
I live in the south of France Gard department and the fishing is very good . Nice to see over this side of the pond and fishing for this rare species .
Great video and what a great guide to keep you casting when you lost all hope and got you on a nice fish to end the trip ... I take a guided trout fly fishing trip every year it's a shade pricey but I learn so much each time it's worth it even though I fish saltwater 80% of the time I use subtle presentations that were learned on the trips to catch finicky fish
Sounds like Musky fishing haha keep it up with these videos man I've been binge watching them. glad to know there are are some philly locals that are hardcore into fishing.
I'd recommend taking a party boat out of an Italian port and going for tuna, bluefish, and/or European sea bass. Don't know if the party boats require the passengers to have a license.
I did not try with the fly rod, the guides said I should not try to learn to fly fish while targeting hucho haha, need to lay perfect casts or else you spook them, I need to try fly fishing this year though.. I have no fly fishing skills
Is the Hucho the same fish as the Hucho taimen? If so, it's also called The Mongolian Terrortrout, although it's actualla a non-migratory salmon. They can become very old and large, 55+ years, 100+ kilograms. The Chinese claim that they can become even larger, 500+ kg and folklore have them at 4 tons 👍 😄
thanks man it wasnt too bad, highs around 32-35 degrees, lows at night maybe 25, luckily we got out of there just as a big cold front was coming through, would have been unfishable the following days
that was a custom made fly by the guide, his secret hucho fly, basically 5" of white fluff with a double hook embedded in it haha, wasnt much else to it. it had a nice flutter in the water though
looks like they came in a little too easy. would maybe try lighter tackle and line if the is a next time. I fish for landlocked salmon in. vt, MA, and NH. usually if there is no rain, the water isn't as oxygenated and they don't fight as hard. but after a good rain the same fish still spool you.
yea you are right they didnt fight much, the gear we used was pretty heavy but I understand it.. if we hooked a 30-40lber it would be a different story. If I had a chance to fish the smaller more populated stream again I would go lighter tackle for sure. their rivers/streams were running pretty low from no recent rain too so that might have had something to do with it.
I am not 100% on what that lure was exactly, I myself have never seen that particular thing... it was a fly though, with a double hook, about 5" long, flutters through the water, but the material it was made of and the inner workings of it, I am not sure. it worked though haha
Awesome guide!

Extreme Philly Fishing lol Bosnia or Croatia would be awesome to fish
thanks man, yea its different over there, struggle is real, not a whole lot to fish for but if you have the time, some new species to be had for sure
Sea-Money Fishing The only new species are the European Chub,European grayling,Barbel,Softmouth trout and Huchen.
As micro species there are a lot of them.
Hucho hucho! The second biggest salmon after Hucho taimen which lives in Mongolian's rivers. Beautiful video!

@seamoney what was that lure/bait that you were using ??I was having trouble figuring out what that was ? Lol
that was a custom made fly by the guide, his secret hucho fly, basically 5" of white fluff with a double hook embedded in it haha, wasnt much else to it. it had a nice flutter in the water though

Dope

It seems the same as Japanese Huchen. It will probably be easier fishing that in Japan.
Damn I did not know there are huchen in japan, Ill have to check that out
What was that lure
Yo sea money, your lure looked like a piece of leather or decaying fish. What was it?
I am not 100% on what that lure was exactly, I myself have never seen that particular thing... it was a fly though, with a double hook, about 5" long, flutters through the water, but the material it was made of and the inner workings of it, I am not sure. it worked though haha
