I'm re-releasing this episode because it provides a nice overview and introduction to Cosmos and Psyche and Richard Tarnas' work in general, for those who have been reading his book again lately. Be sure to follow the hashtag #CosmosAndPsyche to join in on some of the book discussions this month.
I agree with Rick---you are an exceptionally skilled interviewer Chris. Your deep respect, dare I say reverence for your subject--Rick and his scholarship/insight---ring all the way through. You make him accessible and distill his wisdom for us. Thank you.
Around the new year I posted on Reddit asking for astrology book recommendations. Someone told me Cosmos and Psyche would change the way I saw the world, and I bought it on Jan 6th mainly based on their recommendation without realizing just how incredibly timely reading it right away in January would be!! Thanks for re-releasing this :)
This is an extremely rich discussion, Chris. I have been interested in knowing more about the concept of co-creation (which I've been studying as a part of my "new thought" / "science of mind" spriitual practice for a number of years) and astrology. I can't wait to read C&P cover to cover! Thanks for the re-release, and for your ongoing service to the astrological community!
It's a rare treat to listen to such a deep thinker who can so beautifully speak to the leap/gap between a reductionistic worldview, and a cosmic evolutionary ensouled order worldview, and the interviewer creates the great vessel for a sensitive exploration of astrology's many gifts at the broadest level.
So good... he hung out with those I admired of and thought were very cool in the late 70s... Richard has a brilliant mind... a fabulous dialogue between you... excellent thank you 🙏
Chris thank you so much for suggesting to Richard to do an audiobook. I am dyslexic and sometimes its nice to have a little extra help. I wanted you to know how much i appreciate you for that. Btw I'm currently reading your book Hellenistic Astrology The study of fate and fortune available at fine bookstores anywhere, its really great and lovely to read. I'm taking my time and taking it all in. Thx for all the awesome work you do for the beautiful language we call Astrology and know you are loved and appreciated by so many of us in the community. ❤
Thank you for facilitating this absolutely amazing interview and for re-posting! I’m very grateful for your podcast and all the knowledge that you are sharing here. Thank you 🙏🏻💎
Hello @the astrology podcast. First your content is extremely professional and serves the rational/ thinking function perfectly. In day and age of spiritual deception and people trying to deceive everybody in the name of these esoteric science I would highly recommend all my friends this channel who want to dwelve deep into spirituality. Your interviewing skills are exceptional and I would like you to introduce to a channel called “New Thinking Allowed by Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove”. Your intervening skills matches his skills. He is an exceptionally good interviewer.
At approx 26:58 - that is exactly how I feel. Astrology is thee most interesting thing I've ever studied! Thank you for another wonderful episode, Chris. I'm a newbie; I've learned a great deal from your podcast. 💖
If you want a synchronicity I bought this book last week, your original podcast was released on the date I met my partner and the Saturn Pluto conjunction happened on my sun. I am supposed to be here :)
This week was oddly mostly about the Tarnas family. Just for humor, I decided to actually watch the lord of the rings and made one person laugh while others 😳 by saying, when all is said and done, Sauron is just Cupid. I think it was from another interview with Becca where she said Tolkien created an ultimate evil where I’m so contrary I found a perception shift. Needless to say, I later found humor revisiting the Eros myth and seeing Eros being the child of Venus and mars having natal Venus mars conjunct with Pluto where… yeah, I’d see Sauron as playing match maker. I’m very new to Richard along with archetypal astrology. One thing I’ll state that I purposely omit because I often think it’s common knowledge is (since I mentioned it in a comment) the zombie archetype is sort of an update of the dragon myth which can easily be found by finding the Moyers interview clip with Joseph Campbell. It’s what Tarnas is stating and it was interesting to me it was a collective fantasy while the meaning was lost. It’s pretty much what he said about machines; zombies consume and procreate on a machine level with no soul with consumption of what it has no use for like how the dragon hoards what it has no use for itself. It’s similar to Alan Watts famous speech of life being a musical composition where we robotically go through a system waiting for “it” to happen when “it” never does not knowing what “it” even is. With the zombie myth, the opposite symbolism of chaotic consumerism is often tyrannical order which also brings up part of the Netflix controversy where (since Tarnas mentioned it) an egocentric Twitter handle referring to the French Revolutions reign of terror was used which is a major problem in every area beyond just this. There’s a lack of leadership where high conflict types in a small minority of a group control the dialogue causing further rifts with this mindset amplified causing further divisions. Another thing stated by Tarnas is over identification with self and over identifying with the spiritual. I really enjoyed these episodes. I could add, I chuckled a little when Leary was brought up because Leary may be mostly responsible for my opposition view of use of psychedelics which is somewhat from youth experiences finding it had little impact while others had altering experiences; Leary came off as egocentric which made me view it working in opposition to its use. I’ve held they’re effective as an anti-depressant and treating ptsd, and accepted I’m likely just the type that just has what others call altering experiences normally (lol). In Becca’s episode with Venus it reminded me of Neptune where it’s trine sun, sextile moon and Venus, semi sextile uranus. Coincidentally, by not, -because I was waiting on it-, you finally uploaded the Neptune episode. I have a lot of synchronicities, the most recent was listening to a song driving to work around the building where a coworker I don’t like scared a skunk causing him to get sprayed while listening to a song with the lines: I love a skunk by the roadside When he's warning off his foes Intoxicating, heady arousal The animals know I just take it as the universe has a sense of humor. I’ll cite something I agree with Watts on, if we had life’s mysteries we’d have nothing to live for so I wouldn’t get TOO deeply invested in rushing to the end of the composition. At some point we will know life’s mystery. He mentioned once, an inverted awakening, where life loses its cognitive meaning where people are just organic tubes in sacs of fluid; I’ve had maybe a 2-3 minute experience with that at a family dinner where it was purely nihilistic. If a rainbow shot from the sun and the clouds rained my little ponies, I’d just be annoyed, but this was the effective method of understanding what brings joy to life which is why my definition of spirituality it so broad.
If you missed it, Dr. Tarnas's birth data from 4:20 ish is: Tarnas, Richard, 1950-02-21:12:30 CET, Genève, Switzerland. He's a month older than I am. 🇨🇭😎
Very inspiring interview, which makes me wanna explore more about the mundane astrology. Anyone who can recommend a book on that? Thanks! I’m new to astrology but very much intrigued.
Uranus mars wow mind blown... coming in to age of Aquarius this evolution of bringing all known and unknown together is the future ....if humanity is to have one.... embracing all multiplicity of from of thought is only way to find the hidden occult human origins of thought and spirituality.
Thank you so much for the re-releasing. Great timing! 🤗 Would you mind to share here the link to the CIIS Journal that was referred to. Thank you again!

Sheila Eisele I agree - and very religious about clarity, defining terms, it is so helpful for beginners 🙏🏽
