Holy shit this is prescient! Uncle Bill really *was* a prophet, he really *was* a shamen...He truly saw things that the great percentage of us do not. Utterly remarkable. A legend, and I do not say that lightly.
I wouldn't worry about it. If you don't like violence why don't you just ask the defense department to send a Peacekeeper (MX) to his hometown. Then you won't have to worry about any person in St. Louis betraying your nice serene sense of moral dignity ever again. Mabye you could write a made for TV memoir about it afterwards, a lifetime special, Upright Citizen's Nukin and Dukin for God volume 1.
I woke up with Poppy's "Let's Make a Video" stuck in my head and this pops up first in my recommended list. I love what Burroughs is saying. Forget about how you appear to others, or even to yourself, and set up your life the way you want it to play out. Even your past. Push your past aside, put it in the bloopers reel, or rewrite your life so much that people remember you differently. Memory is just an image. The screen is just an image. "Death to the image. Hail the new flesh."
Hah neat. You know her music too. It's clever stuff. Im new to beat writers so that's why I found this video. I currently have read naked lunch and I'm reading "one the road " neat stuff. I enjoy the philosophy and story telling with entertainment whether it is modern or old.
It's from The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, created by Allen Ginsberg (and others) in JK's memory at Naropa University, Boulder, Colorado. Anne Waldman still leads the summer school there-I went from the UK in 2014.
not really. he met him once for the Priest They Called Him sessions and had a rather dim opinion of him: "There's something wrong with that kid he frowns for no reason.."
@@freonholderlin2941 He didn't even meet him for those recording sessions. They were done completely separately. Cobain wanted Burroughs as the old man in the Heart Shaped Box video, even going so far as to offer to blur his face out, but nothing came of that. Cobain did end up visiting Burroughs at his Lawrence home. There's a pretty good photo of Cobain inside an orgone accumulator.
I found it a little ironic that a video about making your life a movie, would most cleverly leave you hanging with a short audio track compared to the photo edit of Mr. Burrows. Makes you say HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

@Brian Brookes Perhaps, but you get what he was driving at. The wit and humour are what make his obervations trenchant. I wish more poems were as entertaining, but then, I don't read much poetry.
The audience is laughing like it's a joke...what he is speaking is entirely true...must be a bunch of lousy, dumb kids. Much of his work was satirical, but when he spoke plain, solid truth, he spoke plain, solid truth.
I get you Greg, yet Bill actually had a wonderful sense of humor. Listen to his inflections as he plays to the audience... He was seriously an hilariously, salacious and fallacious malcontent! Rock on Bill!!!
Greg Tallent I didn't get any vibes of an audience that was laughing off cue, yet I wonder if it's not you, who may have missed the wit contained therein, of those truths? Maybe.... I would have to give it a second listen, but the laughs I heard seemed to be on cue. Oh well. ;)
I was actually just listening to this for the 100th time or so, and thinking about how this audience really gets it. Sure it’s true in some sense. It’s also hilarious in some sense. But hey, it’s all sense. My sense, your sense. Who cares.

Considering that Burroughs killed his common law wife in a drunken stunt, I would have thought that he would have taken the greatest care not to associate himself with guns ever again. Unfortunately this was not the case. Some of his musing fall a little flat in lew of this fact. His entertainment value is somewhat diminished.
NOT meant NOT a typical Harvard U Grad, of course (He did graduate- it would be absurd to claim otherwise..but he (Bill Burroughs) did not go on to medical school after, what r u talking about?
I love listening to him.... His voice is a great match for his words and ideas.

I highly respect this man for being such an advocate for good music such as Nirvana
I'm so grateful that his voice so enhanced his genius, how much luck is that? He really was a sweet man, ultimately, that was his best attribute.
so what? r
Yup. A junkie and a murderer. What a charmer.
i dont know about that... he sure was fascinating though
Accident or no, he did kill his wife. Technically, he perhaps didn't *murder* his wife, but that distinction doesn't remove the bullet from her head.

So many fancy words used to describe the indescribable
Meh not something I would disparage, but if that's what you're doing you do you.

I doubt it.

I wanna buy a camera. Wait a sec..I am the camera!!

The soft machine is a human, and The soft machine is a band that got the idea from the book by Burroughs.I prefer both,if you ever can say like that!
In fact i prefer Burroughs, casuse the music of The soft machine is a psycedelic has been,Burroughs isnt, even though hes sadly passed away by now.

I would constantly ask where's my gran'mammy, then he would say," You ever played William tell boy?"
