MAKO SHARK - King of the Pelagic Realm 4K

  • When the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) proposed to add both shortfin and longfin mako sharks to its list of protected species, I sprung at the opportunity to help secure their protection. As many as 1 million makos are caught for their fins and meat each year in largely unmanaged fisheries. A female mako takes 18 years or more to mature and has only four to 16 pups every 18 months, making them incredibly vulnerable to overexploitation.

Millions of years of evolution just for humans to come along and wipe them out. For their fins, which do nothing for us. It saddens and angers me.

Commercial Fishing, ESPECIALLY Chinese fleets are exploiting EVERYTHING they can hook, snag, and/or net. But other countries are quilty as well.
Sportfishing is almost beneficial, IF THEY USE CIRCLE HOOKS, AND PRACTICE CATCH & RELEASE. Responsible Sportfishing requires licensing and permits that monetarily support conservation.
Whereas Commercial Fishing is just about uncontrolled harvesting. It is important to distinguish between Commercial and recreational fishing.

these guys need meaningful protection now ... the scale of international commercial fishing boats and their fleets is just too much for the oceans to continue to absorb

Not being racist or anything but once they get into Asian waters, they disappear. Same thing happens with Lamna Ditropis.

Yes something needs to be done but most of the country's that over fish could not give a shit about the fish stocks until it concerns them and they don't get punished the way other countries do because there governments are usually corrupt and it's like banging your head against a brick wall but carry on good work and carry on

The only solution is to go vegan and stop supporting animal agriculture.
