Ive been listening to you since i was 19, im 37 now. I saw you guys live in san Fransisco at slims back in the day and ive been to a lot of shows since then.
You guys are one of the best live acts ive seen and i still firmly believe you are one of the most underrated guitarists to exist. You did a lot of unique things with the guitar and i can hear a lot of your influence in a lot of current bands.

@@tomace194 the riff youre mentioning took me a half hour to learn, while the riff following it i cant play properly despite learning it over a year ago. This song is wild, it doesnt even sound like music when youre breaking it down slowly while practicing. Without decent pacing it doesnt really make much melodic sense compared to most of the tracks on doppelganger and manipulator, and ive found this and sledgehammer to be the hardest two by far. If you play, the tab books are pretty awesome

I love that you did all these demonstrations, it's been fun learning these songs the way they're really meant to be played. I bought the Doppelganger tab book but it's obvious some things are wrong compared to what the goat himself plays. Glad you're setting the record straight so to say and thanks for doing all these playthroughs.
Wasn't that tab book officially authorized by the band? I'm kinda surprised they got it wrong in places, you'd think step one of a product like that would be running it past the man himself to make sure it was accurate.

3 years late for a reply, but i got the doppelganger and manipulator books about 2 years ago when i was in my first 2-3 years of playing, and ive learned faster than anybody else i know by miles.
I just bashed my head against tool songs, the fall of troy, novelists fr, plini, scale the summit etc when they were WAY above my skill level but i eventually managed to just figure it out. Would take me months to finish a single song most of the time but id practice a few songs at a time so it didnt get stale.
Im assuming by just skipping directly over every single beginner lesson that i just got to start practicing the ADHD techniques right from the beginning so they were always sort of the normal way to play.
I always thought the idea of building on basics wasnt necessarily the de facto best way to learn, as you have to actually like the music youre playing, and playing power chords for a decade will never make you good at sweep picking for example.
Its been a while so i hope youve tried more, but i think most people can do it with enough perseverance. It helped me immensely to listen to these tabs in midi at slow speeds to be able to understand the melodies and time signatures better
