Best band, best guitarist, best singer on the planet. They are Future Punk, they are Prog, they are Expansive Rock - whatever the fuck you wanna call it (if you have to label it). Stop bitching about ATDI or De-Loused and just be grateful you're alive at the same time as ORL and CBZ, to hear the best music you'll ever hear. Every album so far is a 9 or a 10/10. Roll on the next classic!
@oscwildle1 I think the main reason why they were playing these songs under ORLG is because Omar was having some of their live performances recorded and uploaded onto the internet. Since it would be under his own label he'd have the freedom to do what he pleased, rather than if it was TMV on WB.
i've followed this band since 'de-loused' and i wish they would release an album every fukin month!!! FUK DAT!! EVERY WEEK!! this is new shit to me and i'm fuckin' lovin' it!!!!
no kidding. a lot of the live versions of this are so raw and energetic. dunno what the motivation was behind the album version. rest of the album is GREAT, but what the hell happened to Whip Hand?
@pat353 there is no law that prohibits musicians from playing ANYONE's material live. As long as its live. Thats why you can cover anyone's music, as long as your not selling it. In this case ORLG can play all or any of the TMV catalog.
@elstevendeo Omar said the reason he books these shows as ORLG is that he can play TMV songs without Warners' interference, because they have the rights to the name "The Mars Volta".
That's when I disconnect from you That's when I disconnect from you That's when I disconnect from you That's when I disconnect from you I am a landmine, I am a landmine So don't just step on me, no don't just step on me I am a landmine, a landmine And I can blossom in the petals of an ECT
Have you seen them live in the flesh? I think their live sound doesn't always transfer to a video very well. You're removed from the epic volume, the feel of the bass, the atmosphere, the lights, the energy. Both times I've seen them the first song has been a bit sketchy, then they've settled into pure glory.
@DandelionVolta If warner bros owns the name 'The Mars Volta' wouldnt they own the music on the record there producing aswell? It jus seems strange they wouldnt let them use the name, but still let them play the music live under ORLG, in which they wouldnt make any $ right?..jus askin is all.
@DandelionVolta ya it is pretty much all the same core writer (omar) whether volta or not, he considers all his work one in the same, just likely legal crap prevents them from calling it volta and such
@verminj It amazes me that after 7 years of youtube people still try to mandate what others are or are not allowed to post about in the comments sections of videos.
really what is ORLG? its the same group as the mars volta, n these songs r a year old! n they were just released under "the mars volta"'s new album, so is ORLG, the group that makes songs, n then later decide to release them under TMV? TMV will never die if thats the case xD just wish all their songs would come out every year...
@11cylynt11 He's being saying that on several interviews, he also said this is their last album with Warner but I'm not too sure... he said he liked the terms of his contract so why would he sign for two albums only?
i think, 8 years later, that it makes sense now. omar had other bigger plans, and a 2 album deal with warner made enof money to support him for a while
When you leave the night on contagion's my own doublespeak malice tends to choke my father's grip but his hands are always clean Walk towards the light karmaless, your fetish in me you make me older swatting flies in the vaseline I'm not getting any better in this plot of dormant waste thorns decipher, teeth serrated in the venom I awake That's when I disconnect from you That's when I disconnect from you That's when I disconnect from you That's when I disconnect from you
i feel like dave was kinda a copier of pridgen stylistically but parks is really original. omar has awesome choice in drummers id like to see them all together like the zappa drummers did
@trenken You aren't making sense man, old TMV had a lot of noise and dissonance, and this isn't noise. You know not every note has to be on key when you write a song... otherwise music would be pretty boring. And yes Cedric called it "future punk".
@DandelionVolta ya it is pretty much all the same core writer (omar) whether volta or not, he considers all his work one in the same, just likely legal crap prevents them from calling it volta and such
Wish it stayed like this for Noctourniquet
Omar has so many "Omar Rodriguez Lopez groups" it's hard to keep track.
This live version is brilliant.
the drummer is a fkn legend

Mars Volta is coming back wooot to anyone who doesnt no..
PLEASE BE ON THE NEW TMV ALBUM THIS SONG IS FUCKING AMAZING!
@DandelionVolta this is the exact band i saw as The Mars Volta 2 nights ago..
Saw this same set back in May in Dallas. It's more mind blowing in person.
thx for the fast turnaround on this
@trenken This is what I thought early TMV could have been while still having that ATDI vibe. Lov e the new material.
I AM A LANDMIIIINE
I AM A LANDMIIIINE
todos criticas como si fueran grandes musicos, estos dos hacen musica hace mucho tiempo y son unos genios ..fuera y dentro de tmv
@oscwildle1 I think the main reason why they were playing these songs under ORLG is because Omar was having some of their live performances recorded and uploaded onto the internet. Since it would be under his own label he'd have the freedom to do what he pleased, rather than if it was TMV on WB.
@pat353 It's ORLG covering unheard Mars Volta songs - nothing illegal about it.
i've followed this band since 'de-loused' and i wish they would release an album every fukin month!!! FUK DAT!! EVERY WEEK!! this is new shit to me and i'm fuckin' lovin' it!!!!
I almost forgot how much I love these guys. I'm thinking this is a fairly decent preview of "The NEW Mars Volta"
To everyone... this isn't the mars volta. It's omar's solo project. Cedric has done vocals for his solo work multiple times.
I’m from the future.... this IS a Mars Volta song
Yeah?
@trenken Have you ever listened to what they did in At The Drive-In?
no kidding. a lot of the live versions of this are so raw and energetic. dunno what the motivation was behind the album version. rest of the album is GREAT, but what the hell happened to Whip Hand?
@DandelionVolta Where did you read that?
Looking forward to a studio recording of this

It's the first track off Nocturniquet.
Cedrics house key is badass.
OMAR&CEDRIC LO ++++++
Bad ass song
Stoked R-L is stepping back up to the mic, B-Z's voice is so well suited to harmony...
@elstevendeo Omar said the reason he books these shows as ORLG is that he can play TMV songs without Warners' interference, because they have the rights to the name "The Mars Volta".
Yeah I'm pretty sure at least part of this song if not all of it is on Nocturniquet.
That's when I disconnect from you
That's when I disconnect from you
That's when I disconnect from you
That's when I disconnect from you
I am a landmine, I am a landmine
So don't just step on me, no don't just step on me
I am a landmine, a landmine
And I can blossom in the petals of an ECT
@DandelionVolta ASCAP..?
@Antom1234 man this are old songs most likely this is omar rodriguez lopez group not mars volta..
@pat353 I suppose that's handled by ASCAP and not their record label
@oscwildle1 That makes sense. I didnt think of it that way.
para cuando algo nuevo de TMV amoresssssssss
For live music, you can play anything you want, it's considered a "cover". You don't need any rights or ownership to play it live.
Is this new material? Is it going to be on the new album? It's fucking beyond amazing.
@11cylynt11 Aye ive heard that too that he likes to book shows labled as ORLG to avoid lame complications with warner.
@DandelionVolta If warner bros owns the name 'The Mars Volta' wouldnt they own the music on the record there producing aswell? It jus seems strange they wouldnt let them use the name, but still let them play the music live under ORLG, in which they wouldnt make any $ right?..jus askin is all.

yea sorry buddy this is the mars voltas new album!
@andre230994 They've come from a very punk influenced background. I think honestly, they'd prefer no label at all than people arguing about it.
@verminj It amazes me that after 7 years of youtube people still try to mandate what others are or are not allowed to post about in the comments sections of videos.

@sebaba001 I think you tried to reply to Trenken, I'm a noob guitar player but I'm pretty sure this song is in A minor
the johntravolta
@11cylynt11 He's being saying that on several interviews, he also said this is their last album with Warner but I'm not too sure... he said he liked the terms of his contract so why would he sign for two albums only?
i think, 8 years later, that it makes sense now. omar had other bigger plans, and a 2 album deal with warner made enof money to support him for a while
@elstevendeo And now its track one on the new album hahahaha but this song is sick!
this is not the mars volta
damn, this sound so weird! I kinda like it
When you leave the night on
contagion's my own doublespeak
malice tends to choke my father's grip
but his hands are always clean
Walk towards the light
karmaless, your fetish in me
you make me older
swatting flies in the vaseline
I'm not getting any better
in this plot of dormant waste
thorns decipher, teeth serrated
in the venom I awake
That's when I disconnect from you
That's when I disconnect from you
That's when I disconnect from you
That's when I disconnect from you
@elstevendeo and now what do you say?!
Eargasm
@gestapojohnson TRU DAT!
@DandelionVolta oh yeah i missed it, sry stevendeo x)
I have a sudden urge to chew 5 gum...
i feel like dave was kinda a copier of pridgen stylistically but parks is really original. omar has awesome choice in drummers id like to see them all together like the zappa drummers did
@BombproofAutumn Yup.
hold 1 and 2 its hilarious
hahahahaha you must be feeling really akward now xD
@trenken You aren't making sense man, old TMV had a lot of noise and dissonance, and this isn't noise. You know not every note has to be on key when you write a song... otherwise music would be pretty boring. And yes Cedric called it "future punk".
@DandelionVolta They're a punk band now? Well that explains it, I like progressive music, like what TMV used to be, not this noise.
why the fuck is everyone tripping on ced calling it "future punk"??? who cares, you either like it or dont
It's called punk, and it's not even as "off key screaming" as it could be...
Get better juan
@verminj omg atdi is so much better than this
Verses are ok, chorus sounds like a trainwreck. Cedrics vocals are so bad in the chorus. Just lame off key screaming.
Singer is out of tune...it is really embarrasing.
@DandelionVolta ya it is pretty much all the same core writer (omar) whether volta or not, he considers all his work one in the same, just likely legal crap prevents them from calling it volta and such
